Friends
A/N: Hey everyone! Hope you guys liked the last chapter. So, this one's a bit different than my other Oneshots. Also, this one's a bit inspired by one of the Oneshots of @ArteriaHail. So check out her book as well. The plot line is mine, just the idea of... (You'll get to know once you read it) is hers. I also have a surprise for you all at the end. Well, it's not really a surprise, but please check it out. Read the A/N at the end to find out when the next oneshot will be out. On with the chapter!
"So, Hogwarts starts tomorrow."
Draco looked up from his drink to see Blaise looking at him. "I know. I didn't want to go back, but McGonagall contacted my mother, and well, she forced me to complete my seventh year 'nicely'".
"I still can't believe used Levicorpus on you for an hour and then threatened to turn you into a ferret when you declined." Blaise chuckled.
Draco shook his head and took a sip from his glass. "At least she didn't threaten to give away those apples. I mean, how can you give them away? They are just so precious."
"One of the many reasons why I love your mother." Blaise winked at him as he watched his best friend who was about to take another sip. "She still manages to put you in your place. Just like she did."
Draco froze. "It's been more than a year, Blaise. Stop talking about that."
"You still love her, don't you?" He asked him.
When he didn't answer, Blaise continued, "You didn't even give her a proper reason to end that. You could've at least told her."
"Wasn't me being a death eater and having to kill Dumbledore a reason enough?" Draco asked him. "If she would've known, then she would've tried to help me, thus putting herself in danger and I couldn't allow that to happen."
"However nice your intentions may have been, you still hurt her. You knew what you were getting yourself into when you started a relationship with her. You knew that you would eventually have to end things with her, yet you still did it, didn't you?" Blaise sighed. "She doesn't deserve the hurt you gave her, Draco. You could have at least apologised to her and cleared everything after the war."
"You didn't see how happy she was, Blaise. How happy she was... without me. I couldn't just go back to her and ruin everything." Draco shook his head.
"Tomorrow." Draco looked up at him. "Tomorrow you are going to talk to her and apologise nicely. And, if you don't do that, I won't hesitate to tell every embarassing story that I know about you to the whole Great Hall."
"You will do no such thing." Draco glared at him.
"Watch me." He smirked at him. After a few moments, he added, "Let's do something else. I am getting bored."
"Well, what do you suggest we do?" Draco stood up and paid for their drinks.
"How about this?" Blaise followed him and whispered something in his ear. "You already have what you need, so it won't be a problem."
"You mean this felly-tone thing?" Draco pointed towards the object in his hands.
He didn't want to buy or even try this thing, but Blaise had told Narcissa about that, and of course she told Draco to buy one as well.
"You don't call it that. It's a mobile, Draco, not a felly-tone as you call it. And here," Blaise took out his mobile and opened it, "I will send you the number right now. Make sure to do exactly as I told you to."
"You sure about this? I mean, what if they told McGonagall about this and she punished me or something?" Draco asked him.
"Why will that person tell McGonagall about this, you idiot? We aren't doing something bad. Now go and do it." Blaise pushed him towards the exit of the Leaky Cauldron. "I just need to talk to Theo about something important, and then we will come to the Manor."
Draco reluctantly nodded and disapparated.
"So, he agreed?" Blaise turned around to see Theo walking towards him.
"Yeah, and I didn't even have to put much effort into that. Started talking about Hogwarts, then his mother and then changed the topic to Granger, and their relationship. He wasn't in a happy mood, that's why he agreed to do something other than talking about her." Blaise told him.
"What if it doesn't work? You do know that it will just make it worse and they might never talk to each other again." Theo looked at him.
Blaise shook his head. "Don't worry, I know it will work. I know Draco won't go and talk to her tomorrow, and if this is the only way to help them, then I have no problem. Besides, Red supported this idea as well, and she's Granger's best friend."
"Ooo... Red, huh? You have got a nickname for her, that so sweet." Theo winked at him.
He scowled at him. "Shut up, Theo. I just don't like calling her 'Weaslette' as Draco does, and I am not going to call her by her name, so I came up with 'Red'."
"Or was it because you liked her? Don't think I have forgotten about your confession, Blaise. But I don't think Potter will like it." Theo told him.
"Will you shut up? That was third year! And it was just a teeny tiny crush. It didn't even last a week." Blaise glared at him.
"Whatever. But I think the idea might work. After all, they don't whom they will be talking to." He said.
"And that's where you are wrong." Blaise smirked at him. "She knows whom it will be, but he doesn't know. And Red said that she would be with Granger that time, and won't let her say the truth. The only thing Draco knows is that this person went to Hogwarts with us."
"And, Draco thinks that he will pranking that person when in fact, he's the one who will pranked." Theo chuckled. "But why do it today? It's not April Fools Day."
"It's not April Fools Day, it's Draco Fools Day." Blaise winked at him.
"But isn't that day everyday? I mean, he is a fool, and acts like one every second of every day." Theo said. "We are the best, you know." Blaise nodded and they dissapparated."
----------
"You sure about this?" Draco asked him for the third time in the past one minute. He was not liking this idea.
"Yeah, I am. Now go on and message her-I mean, that person. Good luck!" Blaise patted his shoulder as he sat down next to him, while Theo sat on the other side of Blaise.
"Here goes nothing." Draco muttered and opened his mobile.
(A/N: If you're confused, then let me tell you that Draco will be sending messages to Hermione, but he doesn't know it's her. He thinks that the person will be a student from his year at Hogwarts, and he will be pranking him/her. Also, 'Red' is Ginny.)
--------
"Wait, why is Malfoy sending me a message?" Hermione asked her best friend.
"How will I know, Hermione? I have been here the whole day, with you." Ginny innocently smiled at her.
"Whatever, I am just going to delete his number." Hermione muttered, but before she could do so, Ginny snatched her mobile.
"You will do no such thing, Miss Granger. At least see what he wants to say. Maybe he wants to apologise to you." Ginny shrugged.
"Ginny... I told you not to talk about that. If he wanted to apologise, he would have done that a year ago." Hermione shook her head.
"Hermione, please. Listen to me, just this once. If he doesn't apologise to you, then you can delete his number. He might not apologise in the starting, you know how he is. But I think he will definitely apologise to you. So please read his messages." Ginny said and gave her mobile back.
If you don't apologise to her ferret, you will receive my hex. Ginny thought. "I think you should reply to his messages, just to let him know that you are reading them properly, and not just ignoring them."
She sat down next to Hermione, and looked over her shoulder to read his messages. But before you, ferret, Zabini will receive my hex for forcing me to help him.
Draco
I was wonderin' 'bout your mama
Hermione
Well, that's weird. But anyways, I met your mother, Narcissa, a few days ago.
Draco
Did she get that job she wanted?
Hermione
Yeah, she did, twenty one years ago, and she still loves her work.
Draco
Sell that car that gave her problems?
Hermione
How do you know about that? You haven't been spying on us, have you?
Draco
I'm just curious 'bout her, honest
Hermione
You haven't even met her, Malfoy.
Draco
Know you're wonderin' why I've been callin'
Hermione
Contrary to whatever you believe, Malfoy, we didn't talk to each other for a whole year.
Draco
Like I've got ulterior motives
Hermione
When do you not have ulterior motives? Also, take the Veritaserum and then answer that question.
Draco
Know we didn't end this so good
Hermione
And whose fault was that? You should be glad that Narcissa doesn't know about that.
Draco
But you know we had something so good
Hermione
You know I read Hogwarts: A History yesterday. Ps. I think we did.
Draco
So I'm wondering, can we still be friends?
Hermione
I am wondering if I should reject that just like Harry did.
Draco
Can we still be friends?
Hermione
You have to say those three words first. And, they are 'I am sorry'.
Draco
Doesn't have to end
Hermione
It already did, that night.
Draco
And if it ends, can we be friends?
Hermione
Three words, eight letters, Malfoy.
Draco
Can we be friends?
Can we be friends?
Hermione
I thought you wanted me to ignore you, as you clearly said that day.
Draco
Wonderin' if you got a body
Hermione
Wondering if you use your brain, if you have one, that is.
Draco
To hold you tight since I left
Hermione
It's been more than a year, Malfoy.
Draco
Wonderin' if you think about me
Hermione
Yeah, we told Teddy yesterday that you became a ferret once. I wonder if someone took a few pictures that time.
Draco
Actually, don't answer that
Hermione
I did, and I won't delete the message. And don't you dare do that as well.
Draco
Know you're wonderin' why I've been callin'
Hermione
First of all, you haven't. And even if you did, I have got far more interesting things to think about.
Draco
Like I've got ulterior motives
Hermione
Your past actions are enough to prove that.
Draco
Know we didn't end this so good
Hermione
It would be an understatement to say that.
Draco
But you know we had something so good
Hermione
You told Zabini that we were the best couple.
Draco
So I'm wondering, can we still be friends?
Hermione
I am wondering if your mother forced you to message me.
Draco
Can we still be friends?
Hermione
Haven't I made it obvious what you need to do? Haven't I made it clear?
Draco
Doesn't have to end
Hermione
You still haven't told me why it did.
Draco
And if it ends, can we be friends?
Hermione
I thought I had made myself clear.
Draco
Can we be friends?
And if it ends, can we be friends?
Hermione
I don't like repeating myself, Malfoy.
Draco
Know you're wonderin' why I've been callin'
Like I've got ulterior motives
Hermione
You are literally saying this the third time. And my answer won't change!
Draco
Know we didn't end this so good
But you know we had something so good
Hermione
I feel like smacking your head right now.
Draco
I'm wondering, can we still be friends?
Can we still be friends?
Hermione
Or better yet, I should hex you into next week.
Draco
Doesn't have to end
And if it ends, can we be friends?
Hermione
That's it, I am apparating to the Manor right now. I hope Narcissa and Lucius are there.
---------
Before Ginny could say something, Hermione stood up and grabbed her wand. "Hermione... You sure you want to go there?"
"I... Well..." Hermione faltered. She hadn't been thinking straight when she had told him that she was coming to the Manor.
"Wait a second, I'll send my patronus to Narcissa, telling her to come over to your parents' house with Lucius and Malfoy.
Hermione nodded as she watched Ginny leaving her room. "What was I thinking while saying that?" She mentally smacked herself.
"I just hope Narcissa won't be angry with me." She shook her head stared at the photo of her and Draco which was lying between the pages of her favourite book.
----------
"Did you just made me send those song lyrics to Granger?" Draco glared at his best friend. "Zabini, I warned you that day to not do anything that could mess up us, which, I don't think I need to remind you was already messed up because of me."
"D-draco... She is not angry or anything." Blaise took a step backwards from him. "Just calm down, yeah?"
"Calm down? You are telling me to freaking calm down?" Draco exclaimed. "I was planning on talking to her tomorrow. I was going to apologise and tell her everything. Now, I know that she won't even look at me."
"Umm... How did you even know that she is Granger?" Theo asked him.
"Are you kidding me, Nott?" Draco rolled his eyes. "With which girl I had broken up last year? Do you even remember that, or is Loony is the only person you think about?"
Before he could answer, his bedroom door was opened. "I thought I had clearly told you to knock before you come in." Draco shook his head.
"Draco," His mother narrowed her eyes at him, "Care to tell me what did you do this time?"
Draco gaped at her. "Why do you assume it's my fault? I didn't even do anything this time. In fact, it was Zab-"
"Mrs Malfoy," Blaise interrupted, "I think I should go now. I need to water the plants in my garden after all. Goodbye everyone!" He waved at them and dissapparated.
Before Draco could do anything, Theo said, "Umm... I need to go as well. I have to buy some plants in order to water them. So, meet you tomorrow, Draco. Bye everyone!" He smiled sheepishly at Draco and dissapparated.
"Such loyal bestfriends." Draco muttered.
"Draco," He turned towards his father, "Miss Weasley just sent her patronus saying that Miss Granger wants to meet us. And she sounded quite angry as well."
He sighed. "Do I get a choice in this?" But of course, he knew the answer.
"Of course, not, Draco. Come on now, it's been a few days since I had met her." Narcissa smiled at him, grabbed his arm and exited his room.
----------
"Hermione?"
She looked down the stairs to see Narcissa, Draco and Lucius standing in the living room. Hermione sighed and went down the stairs. Ginny had left a few minutes ago, before saying, "I don't want to be in the middle of whatever is going to happen."
"Good afternoon, Mr and Mrs Malfoy." She smiled at them while glaring at the Malfoy heir.
"Good afternoon, Hermione, and I had told you to call me Narcissa. Miss Weasley said that you wanted to meet us." Narcissa said as she pulled her into a hug.
"Did Draco do something wrong, Miss Granger?" Lucius asked her.
Before she could answer, Draco said, "Umm... Granger, can I talk to you? Alone? If you don't mind, that is."
Hermione hesitated for a moment. She wanted her answers, but she didn't want to talk to him, for a reason she didn't understand.
Finally, after a few moments, she nodded and told him to follow her. Draco looked at his parents, and said, "Don't you dare try to eavesdrop on us." And without waiting for an answer, he followed her.
----------
"What the hell was that, Malfoy?"
Draco winced when she yelled at him. He knew he deserved that, and even more, but he couldn't help but feel sad at that. After all, he still felt the way he used to do a year ago, for her.
"It was Zabini's idea. He just gave me a number, said that it was someone from our year at Hogwarts. He told me to choose a song and send the lyrics to that person." Draco said. "I swear, Granger, I didn't know whom I was messaging until I read your reply. But still, I had a doubt that the person may or may not be you, but your last reply cleared that doubt."
"And you chose that song? You know what the lyrics mean, don't you?" She crossed her arms in front of her.
"I do. You made me listen to that song when we were..." He faltered. "I was thinking about you that time, and that I had to talk to you apologise tomorrow. You know I don't like wizard music much, and I don't know many Muggle songs, so I chose that."
He took a step towards her. "He's your favourite singer, isn't he? I remember you told me during the Winter Holidays. We even danced on one of his songs on Christmas, you remember?"
Hermione turned away from him. "You can't just come and talk to me after a year, Malfoy, and expect everything to go back the way they used to be."
"I know, Gra-Hermione... I know. But you need to hear me out before you make any decision. Just let me explain." He told her. She just nodded in reply, but didn't turn around towards him.
Draco took a deep breath and told her everything. He told her how Voldemort had threatened to harm his mother if he didn't fix the cabinet soon. Voldemort somehow had gotten to know that Hermione was a Prefect just like him, and that sometimes, they did the rounds together.
One of the death eaters had suggested Voldemort that Draco could take Hermione's help to fix the cabinet. After all, she was the Brightest Witch of Her Age, and wouldn't deny to help anyone. Draco had refused, saying that he wouldn't talk to the 'mudblood'.
Snape had advised him to stay away from Hermione, but also to explain everything to her before. She didn't know that he was a Death Eater, she only had a guess about that, but still, she stayed with him. Draco had asked her to meet him at the Astronomy Tower, and told her that he wanted to break up with her. Without giving any reason, he had walked away from her.
The next day, she saw him kissing Pansy Parkinson.
Pansy knew what Draco had done. So, when he asked her to help him, she had told him that she was only doing that to 'save' Hermione, because she clearly had no interest him in. She kissed him once in front of Hermione, and proceeded to ignore him for the rest of the year.
Voldemort wasn't happy with that. He had hoped that Draco would be able to get her help for fixing the cabinet faster. He thought that she might give him a book or two that could help him.
When Draco had told Snape what he had done, he told him, "You shouldn't have done that, Draco. Just hope that you don't lose your love forever."
Only Blaise, Ginny, Pansy and Theo knew about their relationship. Hermione had told Ron and Harry during their horcrux hunt.
Needless to say, Ron was filled with rage. According to him, she was risking their lives by fraternizing wih the enemy. Draco was just a death eater as he said. On the other hand, Harry remained calm when she told him. He only said that he trusted her and her choices.
Hermione didn't say anything when Draco finished. She turned around and just looked at him while he waited for her answer.
Draco looked at the door, and heard someone whispering outside. He rolled his eyes and cast the Muffliato spell around them.
"I...I don't know what to say." Hermione finally said.
Draco shrugged. "You don't have to say anything now. I actually wanted to talk to you tomorrow, and anyways, we will have to talk tomorrow and for the rest of the year as McGonagall has made us the Heads."
"I had totally forgotten about that." Hermione shook her head. "How did Blaise get my number?"
"He asked Weaselette." He told her. "I don't think she told you about that, did she?"
"No. I will have to deal with her later." Hermione sighed. "Is that all you had to say?"
Draco looked at her for a moment. "I just wanted to tell you everything, and apologize. But, I also wanted to ask you...if we could, you know, get back together?"
Hermione looked away from him. "I need some time, Draco. You didn't talk to me for a whole year, and before that, whatever you did..."
"I know, and I am sorry for that. But you have to understand that I couldn't endanger you. And even after doing all of that, you were still harmed because of me." Draco said.
"Whatever your aunt did, wasn't your fault, you couldn't do anything." Hermione took a step towards him. "And, I don't blame you. In fact, I should probably thank you for helping us."
This time it was Draco's turn to look away from her. "Thank me the day you will be mine. Thank me when you will be with me."
"Draco..." Hermione faltered.
"J-just tell me one thing. Do you think that we could ever get back together? That is, if you still have feelings for me, because I know that I do, and I won't ever stop loving you." Draco looked back at her.
Hermione smiled. "Do you think that if I didn't love you, I will be here standing next to you and not hexing you?"
"D-does that mean, you still-" He started but was cut off.
"Yes, you idiot, yes, I still love you." Hermione laughed. "I just need some time, maybe a week or two, and some spells to use on you as well."
Draco laughed. "That's good to know. I should probably go now." He took a step towards the door. "I will wait for you, tomorrow at platform nine and three quarters."
"Convey my thanks to Blaise, Draco." Hermione smiled. "But warn him that if he did something like that again, I won't hesitate to hex him."
Draco grinned and exited the room.
He was still smiling when he reached his home. For the first time in months, he had a hope that everything would go back to normal.
Everything would be fine.
They would be fine.
And he wouldn't thank Blaise or even Theo for that matter.
A/N: That's it for this oneshot. It was 3700+ words. Hope you guys liked it. So yeah, the idea of Draco sending song lyrics to Hermione was inspired from @AteriaHail's Dramione oneshot book. I had actually planned to only write the lyrics, but then I got an idea for a storyline. Anyways, I know it was weird, and I don't like it much. Random question: Golden Trio or Silver Trio? Answer in the comments below. Vote, comment and please share my story. Reviews are always appreciated. Thank you!
Anyways, the song mentioned in this oneshot is 'Friends' by Justin Bieber and BloodPop. I really liked the song, and thought it was perfect for the story line. Do check that song out!
Anyways, since I didn't like this oneshot much, I decided to post another one today. So please check it out.
