Party

Hermione scowled as Ron downed yet another shot of firewhiskey, making it his sixth one of the night.

"Don't you think you've had enough?" She hissed, making sure no one else heard her.

"It's a party, 'Mione!" He drawled out, slurring his words ever so slightly. "You should at least act like you're having fun!"

She glared at him, huffing as she walked away through the crowd. He was treating it like one of his Chudley Cannon team parties instead of a more proper Ministry party, and he was starting to make a scene. Ginny had been eyeing them from across the room, and when Hermione stopped next to her friend, they both gave each other a look.

"Need me to take him home?" Ginny asked, nodding towards her brother.

"Not in your condition," Hermione said, looking down at Ginny's belly. "You shouldn't be apparating drunk people this far along in your pregnancy."

"I'm just seven months," Ginny sighed, putting a hand on her belly. "I can go get Harry if need be."

"I may need you to, yeah," Hermione nodded, looking back at the bar where Ron was. "Oh, Merlin..."

Ron had found himself a young Auror in training, a blonde woman by the name of Victoria. She had to have been fresh out of Hogwarts, and she seemed to be enjoying Ron's attention.

"I think I've had it with him," Hermione said finally.

Ginny stared at her in shock. "You mean...?"

Hermione looked down at her hand, pulling the ring off and leaning against the wall, taking a deep breath. "Yeah."

"Merlin...honestly, it's about time," Ginny said. "I know he's my brother, but I don't know how you've put up with all of it up until this point."

"I don't know either," Hermione said, shaking her head and dropping her hand.

"I'm going to find Harry so he can take Ron home," Ginny said before disappearing into the crowd.

Hermione sighed and looked up at the ceiling, blinking away tears as the realization of her decision was finally hitting her.

"You look like you need a glass of wine."

She jumped and found Draco standing next to her, holding out a glass nearly full with red wine.

"I figured since it matched your blouse..." He shrugged.

"Thank you, Draco," She said, unable to even force a smile as she took a long drink.

"Rough night?" He asked skeptically, raising an eyebrow at her.

She simply nodded, staring ahead at the bar to her now ex-fiancé. Ron had managed to sneak an arm around the woman and was whispering something in her ear, causing her to laugh.

Draco followed her gaze and his expression immediately hardened. "Isn't that your fiancé?"

She shrugged and took another long drink, holding up the ring. "Not anymore."

They both looked down at the ring in her hand quietly, and then Draco looked up at her. Over the past two years, the two of them had grown close after a case of his that involved werewolves. And since she was one of the few with the knowledge he needed, they partnered up on the case and they had been friends ever since. But he could see that she wasn't happy in her relationship; every time Ron was around, he was always brash and condescending. He let his quidditch fame get to his head, and was thoroughly enjoying it at Hermione's expense. Draco always knew she deserved better, and deep down, he wanted to be the one to give her what she deserved in life.

He quietly took the ring and stepped away from her, making his way through the crowd. Ginny and Harry had just gotten to Ron and before Ginny could scold her brother, Draco cleared his throat.

"Harry, you're going to want to disapparate him right after this before he causes a scene," He said to Harry.

Harry gave him a confused look but nodded as Ron scoffed and slurred loudly, "Wha-what are you talking about, Malfoy?"

Draco held up Hermione's ring so that Ron could see it clearly. "Hermione sends her regards, and your wedding is off."

Ron gave the ring a confused look as he took it, resting it in his palm before looking up at Harry. Harry immediately understood what Draco meant then and grabbed Ron's arm, disapparating the two of them away with two pops.

Draco then turned to Victoria and nonchalantly said, "I'm afraid you have not been meeting the standards we require in our Aurors. You won't need to come in again on Monday for training. Good evening, Victoria."

The blonde stared in shock as Draco turned on his heel and returned to where Hermione was standing in shock. Ginny followed him back, looking curiously between him and Hermione.

"Well that was certainly interesting," Ginny said. "And you did a fantastic job not drawing attention to what happened."

Draco shrugged. "I didn't think Hermione would want her breakup to be public until she was ready."

"You didn't need to do that," Hermione said quietly to him.

He simply smiled and took a sip of his whiskey, looking down at her. Ginny looked between the two of them again before sighing.

"Alright, I'm going to head home," Ginny announced. "We're going to keep Ron there for the rest of the weekend so you can move your stuff out."

"Thanks, Gin," Hermione said, smiling at her friend.

Ginny nodded and gave Hermione a smirk before walking away, leaving her and Draco standing by themselves.

"So, where are you going to be moving?" Draco asked in a concerned tone.

"I can always go back into my parents' house for a bit," Hermione shrugged. "At least until I find my own place."

"You know," He started, smiling slightly. "I do have a spare room at my place."

She couldn't help but smile widely, actually taking his offer somewhat seriously. "Really?"

"Move-in ready, all you have to move is your clothes and your mountain of books," He grinned.

"What about my cat?" She asked with a laugh.

"You still have that terror?" He asked, his eyes going wide.

"Crookshanks is not a terror!" She exclaimed, laughing at his expression.

"I suppose he can come along too," Draco sighed, shaking his head as he continued to smile.

She smiled in return, suddenly leaning against him with a sigh. He wrapped an arm around her, holding her close and resting his chin on the top of her head. Neither one of them cared where they were at that moment, or who could see them.

"Draco?"

He looked down at her, seeing that she was smiling up at him.

"Thank you," She said quietly. "For all of that."

He smiled in return and leaned down to give her a quick, soft kiss. "You're welcome, Hermione."

She giggled and leaned up further to give him another kiss, feeling happier than she had in a long time.

A/N: So I've been sitting on this one for a little while, but I think it's really cute. I might put it in an actual story, haven't decided yet :) enjoy! <3
