mark felt a piercing pain in his chest after he had heard the news. he came to the realisation that he will forever be stuck in his unrequited love, forever be just donghyuck's wingman instead of his man.

the canadian had lost his chance to be with him. although, did he ever had a chance to begin with? donghyuck had only eyes for her, never for him.

it was written in the stars that they don't belong together and yet, mark hoped foolishly that he could rewrite them. he might as well keep on dreaming.

a pang of jealousy and sorrow shot through his body. unrequited love surely sucked as the taste of it was disgunstingly bitter.

his pitiful feelings and his selfish thoughts tormented him. he was envious that he wasn't in her spot and he was ashamed to imagine himself in her spot.

he was supposed to be happy for the couple; be happy that his friend found the courage to confess to his crush; be happy that everything was in hyuck's favor. and yet, he failed to accomplish to do such a simple task.

he cursed himself for feeling like that, for thinking so pathetically and for being such a bad friend.

before he could drown any deeper in his misery, the sound of a new notification pulled him out and back into reality.

mark glanced at his phone, seeing that new messages came from the detective boys group chat.

"right, the detective boys!", the canadian jolted at the thought as he was reminded to do his task for their mission.

the black haired boy decided to get a hold of himself and shook his head in an attempt to get rid of his devastating thoughts.

even though these thoughts were lingering in the back of his mind, especially when he was reminded by the fact that his crush was also part of the detective boys, mark managed to jump right into work.

the canadian contacted his connections who might have some information on jaemin's fanclub. he immersed himself in researching the members of said club, hoping that he stumbles across a vital clue.

the next day, the drama club members were assembled at the theatre hall in lunch break.

everyone was still talking about prom and how fun it was. they recalled the hilarious and iconic moments of the night, however, they all intentionally left out the intimate parts some shared that night.

sooyun and donghyuck were waiting for everyone to gather. nonetheless, the freshman of the friend group was the only one who was missing.

"hey, where's jisung?", the blonde girl asked confusedly and furrowed her brows.

"yeah, i've been wondering that too...", jieun agreed in irritation, taking a sip of her strawberry milk.

"chenle, do you know where jisung is?", donghyuck questioned the sophomore who shook his head.

"i don't know. he hasn't texted me yet", the orange haired boy responded, finding it suspicious as well.

"maybe he went to get some pizza again?", renjun chimed in, shrugging his shoulders.

"or he got lost again", jeno added teasingly, stifling his laugh while reminiscing the moments of the freshman getting lost in the building.

"damn, dude. i just had the same thought!", mark agreed laughing, giving his friend a high-five.

"don't say that! he's still a freshman!", haewon scolded them and gave them a light smack on the back of their heads.

"i bet you weren't any better in your first year!", she remarked and wore a proud smile when hearing the two of them groan in pain and mumble quiet apologies.

"damn, girl. i just had the same thought!", jaemin encouraged grinning and gave haewon a high-five like jeno and mark previously did.

"i bet he will join us later", yejoon stated, taking a bite of his sandwich. "let's just ask him later and if he doesn't show up, then we'll ask him in the group chat."

"god, don't talk while you eat. that's so gross", renjun recoiled, shaking his head in disappointment.

"oops! sorry, sir", the sophomore apologized but continued talking while eating, making the chinese mad.

before the two of them could throw hands with each other, donghyuck interrupted them.

"don't kill each other yet! there is something important we have announce", the purple haired boy interfered and let out a nervous laughter.

"oh? tea?", renjun questioned and glanced curiously at him, forgetting the thought of fighting with yejoon.

the latter was as intrigued and curious as the whole group was. they all wanted to hear the news that donghyuck would share.

"who is we?", jeno asked confusedly and lifted one eyebrow. the blonde girl raised her hand at the question, making the former gasp loudly.

"are you guys breaking up?!", jaemin asked in shock, placing dramatically his hand on his chest as his eyes widened in disbelief.

"what? no!", hyuck denied quickly, resulting in making the whole group gasp (except for mark).

"we're dating now", sooyun revealed happily with a sheepish smile adorning her face, "for real, this time."

"we're a real couple now. we ain't pretending anymore", the purple haired boy confirmed proudly, wrapping his arm around her shoulders.

"OH MY GOD, NO WAY", jaemin and chenle yelled and jumped from their seats at the same time, leaving jeno creeped out once again.

"WHAT THE HELL, GUYS", the blond haired boy complained, having the feeling that the events of his friends saying and doing the same things at the same time is possibly not coincidental anymore.

"we're picking up on each other's habits since we're spending lots of time together... that's probably why it's always happening", mark reasoned and reassured his friend, patting his back.

"congrats, guys!", jieun wished cheerfully, clapping her hands. "i'm so happy for you all!"

"OMG, MY GIRLIE HAS SNATCHED HER MAN", haewon exclaimed joyfully and punched her seatmate due to her excitement.

"OUCH?? HAEWON??", the canadian scoffed offended, giving her a glare as he happened to be her victim once again.

"you guys are a good match!", yejoon approved grinning and showed a thumbs-up to the couple.

"i can only agree!", renjun nodded smiling, giving them a thumbs-up as well.

"oh my god. you're copying me, you copy cat", the sophomore mocked teasingly, however, regretted having said that as the chinese was ready to strangle him.

in the meanwhile, jieun and haewon were eagerly questioning and talking excitedly to sooyun about the relationship. the girls were too curious and wanted to know further about it.

jeno and jaemin stood up and approached their best friend, congratulating him about having a girlfriend.

"damn, i didn't expect you to be the first one who is in a relationship", jaemin teased, patting his shoulder.

"excuse me?! what's that supposed to mean??", donghyuck scoffed and glared at his best friends, "i'm such a wonderful, amazing, gorgeous, humorous and lovely guy. i don't get it why you would say that."

"i thought jaem would be the first one among us to be in a relationship since he is the heartthrob of the school", jeno reasoned, shrugging his shoulders.

"huh??", the pink haired boy chimed in and glanced at him in shock while hyuck didn't show any sign of surprise.

"that's actually a good argument", hyuck agreed convinced, seeing how jaemin shook his head and deny embarrassedly the statement.

the drama club members were all busy talking about sooyun and donghyuck's relationship.

chenle had joined these conversations for a short time to congratulate the couple before going back to his seat and texting his best friend.

the orange haired boy urged him to come online and hurry up to the theatre hall for the news.

however, there was no trace of jisung. he hadn't shown up, let alone left a message for the sophomore which was quite odd for chenle.
