the school bell rang; a signal all students had been waiting for. the sound of the bell marked the end of all classes and soon, the majority of students stormed out off their rooms.

fortunately, donghyuck's teacher dismissed him from class earlier than the bell did which is why he was already standing outside of the classroom sooyun had texted him.

the purple haired boy was almost exploiding out of nervosity, shifting his weight from one to another feet as he couldn't stay still.

he had never done that before. he had never pretended to date anyone, let alone had ever dated anyone before.

hyuck hoped that he would make a great job, he didn't want to disappoint sooyun — that's the least thing he wanted to do.

the door of the classroom was opened widely, followed by a mass of students trying hurriedly to get out of the room.

donghyuck's eyes scanned each student, hoping to see the blonde girl he would call his 'girlfriend' for an act.

his heart was racing like crazy. even though he kept on a cool act, he was the complete opposite inside. no words could describe how nervous he was.

"hyuck!", he heard a familiar voice calling after him and saw how his friend — his pretend girlfriend — exited the classroom, running towards him.

sooyun embraced him without warning first, leaving him to be flustered at first. however, he played along right away and wrapped his arms around her.

"hey beauty, how was maths class?", donghyuck inquired grinning, releasing the girl from the hug but placed his arm around her waist.

the blonde girl felt her cheeks burning at his words and touch but she had never dropped her act. "it was okay", she answered casually.

"but it was boring without you. i missed you, sunshine", sooyun added and flashed him a smile.

hearing these words, particularly the nickname, caused butterflies in donghyuck's stomach.

his cheeks turned pink and he was truly overwhelmed by her words and smile as they attacked directly his poor heart.

nevertheless, he mirrored her smile and expressed his genuine joy he felt in that moment.

"i missed you too, my beauty", donghyuck responded sweetly and smiled like a fool.

"so, you are sooyun's boyfriend?", a male voice sounded, causing both of them to look up to the person who spoke to them.

"yeah, i am", donghyuck answered confidentally and pulled unintentionally sooyun closer to him, making the girl blush even harder. her heartbeat sped up, making it difficult for her to remain calm.

"i'm donghyuck. who are you?", the purple haired boy questioned and maintained eye contact.

the guy forced himself to smile. "i'm geon, sooyun's seatmate in maths class", he introduced himself. his voice sounded passive aggressive and yet, forced friendly.

"nice to meet you", the purple haired boy replied in the same tone, tilting slightly his head and giving him a fake smile, "i hope we get along."

geon didn't respond to that, indirectly hinting that he didn't want to be on good terms with him.

nonetheless, donghyuck didn't wait for a reply and was ready to leave with sooyun on his side, turning away from him.

their backs were facing the guy now, nevertheless, they weren't leaving yet.

"we have to get going now, we have plans", hyuck mentioned without even looking at him, however, he turned his face to the side.

"oh and don't you dare bother my girlfriend. she's lovely and kind but i won't if you try to hit on her", donghyuck warned him, a sly grin gracing his lips.

sooyun was surprised to hear his words, she didn't expect him to to say such words, particularly him calling her his girlfriend.

but she appreciated his protective intention and his awesome act. a soft smile appeared on her lips — she truly cherished him.

the purple haired boy saw from the corner of his eyes how pissed off geon became and yet, remained silent.

a pleasant smirk appeared on donghyuck's lips as he turned to the blonde girl. "let's go, sweetheart", he suggested and sooyun nodded.

"see you around, geon", she bid goodbyes before walking away with hyuck and leaving the guy alone.

as soon as they were out of geon's sight, donghyuck let go of sooyun.

"sorry for putting my arm around your waist without asking you first", the purple haired boy apologized right away, "i feel so sorry if i made you uncomfortable in any way."

sooyun began to smile warmly as soon as she heard his words. "hyuck, it's alright. i didn't feel uncomfortable at all. you also never mean any harm for me and i know that you did it for the authenticity of us as a couple", she responded and let out soft chuckles.

donghyuck sighed in relief and couldn't help but smile at her. "we did a great job, we were like real actors", he noted with a proud smile on his face.

"we really were", sooyun grinned in satisfaction. "how come you were acting so good as a boyfriend? have you ever dated before?", she asked boldly, glancing at him in curiousity.

the purple haired boy began to blush at her question but tried to keep up a cool act. "i haven't dated anyone before", he looked away while saying that, feeling all shy suddenly but trying to play it off.

"but you know, i've been in the drama club for more than a year. i'm experienced in acting now", hyuck mentioned confidently and grinned amusedly, his eyes were glancing back at her.

"how come you you were acting so good as girlfriend? have you dated anyone before?", the purple haired boy threw back the question, curiousity was written on his face.

"i did but my ex was an ass. we weren't together for long anyways", she shared sighing and shrugged her shoulders.

"but you know, you are not the only one who's experienced in acting", sooyun added grinning.

"i mean, we're in the drama club and acting is easy for both of us", donghyuck commented confidentally.

"that's true", sooyun confirmed smiling, "so no wonder why we are making such a great pretend couple."

hyuck nodded in approval and couldn't help but grin from ear or ear.
