51.

It is early morning in the Kim House.

Taehyung's mother hums a little, walking down the great marble stairs of her home. She smiles, her mood relatively happy. Reaching her kitchen, she starts to bring out some pots and pans, as well as the ingredients to make a big breakfast. Tying the apron around her waist, she truly starts to look like a mother.

Humming a soft tune, she walks around her large kitchen, simply tasking herself to make Taehyung a nice, home-cooked breakfast. She openings the back garden door to let in some fresh air, pouring herself some orange juice to drink as well, before getting on with cooking the food.

She starts by frying an egg, grilling two pieces of toast, and then waiting. "Oh, I should probably give him his favourite yoghurt," she says to herself, rushing around the kitchen, looking for some bowls.

To be honest, Taehyung's mother had no idea what she was doing, but she knew that if she truly wanted to improve her relationship with her son, her only son, then she must act upon it before it is too late. She's already wasted so many years wallowing in her own grief, she must not continue this any longer.

Scooping out some large tablespoons of yoghurt into a bowl, she decorates it with myriads of fresh fruit that she ordered to her home, specially for Taehyung. A select pick of berries like: blueberries, blackberries, raspberries, strawberries, and other fruits like orange slices and bananas, as well as a few apple slices.

At that moment, she remembers the toast, and stops what she's doing, quickly running over to the grill in time. Sighing in relief at the perfectly cooked toast, she hurries to throw them onto a plate, the heat of the toast burning her already sensitive hands.

Taehyung's mother rubs her hands together soothingly, before grabbing the butter and a knife, she spreads the butter on both of the toasts. However, on one of the toasts, she also spreads strawberry jam, the pinkish jelly being lathered onto the toast. On the other, she delicately places the egg she made earlier, before she spices it with chilli flakes and pepper (only a little though, she knows that Taehyung doesn't like spice).

"This looks perfect," she mumbles proudly to herself, grabbing the plate and the bowl of yoghurt. Rushing over to the dining room, she places the food down, before running back into the kitchen to grab the extra plate of food. And then back again to get some water, juice and coffee for Taehyung.

Looking at the food she's made for her son, she smiles to herself a little, often going back to tweak the way she's placed the plates, turning it slightly, moving the drinks to make the table look more full. And then that's when her stomach rumbles loudly, so with a sigh, she moves back into the kitchen, making herself a soggy piece of seeded bread with stale tea leaves.

Taehyung's mother knew that after so many years of resentment and hate and neglect, it would take more than a mere apology to make up for her actions. She regretted everything she's done up to this moment, wishing that she realised it earlier on. But, it was better late than never, and she could only hope that Taehyung found it in his heart to let his mother in, considering that she was being truly genuine about it. And wanted to open up to the idea that her son was gay, and in love with a male: just as her husband was.

She sits at the head of the table, waiting for Taehyung to wake up, and by the time he does, she's on her last bite of bread, sipping on the cold tea that she has. Taehyung's mother watches her son walk in to the dining room groggily, hands to his eyes rubbing them, hair messy and askew. She tilts her head to the side in shock, mouth falling open as he looks at her son's head more properly then before. His hair was no longer mint coloured but a more vibrant–

"Your hair is blue!" She shouts out in surprise, before she can stop herself.

Taehyung flinches, eyes snapping open to the sight of his shocked mother, his fingers touch his hair as he says, "yeah... Jungkook wanted to dye it blue for some reason," he shrugs, sitting down at the table, looking at all of the food before him. Taehyung's mother nods, eyes glittering, "well you look dashing. Jungkook, is it? He made a good choice."

Nodding awkwardly, Taehyung motions towards the food before him, "what's all of this?" He asks, voice still a little raspy from waking up from his sleep. His mother almost squeals in happiness as she says, "I made you breakfast! Do eat it Taehyung," she says, pushing the plate of toast a little closer to Taehyung.

Taehyung picks up the jam toast, taking a bite out of it, "where's your food?" He watches his mother shrug, "I already ate my food, but you carry on eating," she quickly replies. Taehyung is about to take another bite of the food made by his mother, but he stops, pausing, and then with a sigh, he places his toast down.

His mother looks at him with confusion, ready to ask him the problem, and if something as simple as toast tasted weird to him, but she doesn't get the chance because she's then watching as Taehyung cuts both of his toasts in half with a butter knife. He then pushes the plate of food into the middle, "eat," he starts, taking his bitten half and chewing on it, "I don't even eat that much in the morning anyways and I know that you don't feed yourself properly anyways," he shrugs, before taking another bite of his food.

She looks at with him with a galaxy smile, before she takes the other half, and begins to eat with her son.

The two are then washing the dishes, Taehyung drying them as they do it in a synchronized movement. His mother handing him a plate as soon as he puts down the dish that he has just dried. The two are in a comfortable silence, rather than a tense and awkward silence – they've encountered many moments like this before – but oddly, Taehyung feels relaxed, like he doesn't need to be alert that his mother is going to judge him for no apparent reason.

"Thanks for the breakfast," Taehyung says, drying the last plate with a towel, watching as his mother struggles to pull off the rubber gloves sticking to her skin. She huffs and puffs and grunts until it comes slinging off, flying into the sink. After that ordeal, she faces Taehyung with a small smile, "it was no big deal." Taehyung nods, feeling no need to stand around in the kitchen, causing awkwardness any longer, so he decides to leave, "hey mum, thanks but I'm going to leave now, I've got loads of homework and then I'm going to meet up with Jungkook," he says.

Weird, he told her where he is going, who he is meeting. And he doesn't normally do that.

Taehyung's mother nods, eyes gleaming, and before Taehyung can leave she quickly rushes up to him, "Taehyung, I meant what I said before," she starts. Taehyung replies, "what?" She straightens up, "I meant that I'm going to try and become a better mum. I want to be involved in your life, as long as you want to let me, I just, I feel like it's time to step up."

Taehyung doesn't speak, mildly confused, and at her son's silence, she decides to speak more, not waiting for a reply from her son because if she doesn't get this out, she feels like she's going to explode.

"I know that no apology is going to make up for the way I've acted while you were growing up. Heck, I married a man just for a business deal and I see him once a year on Christmas, and so do you – well, not this year though. I should've put you first, and I regret not seeing that either but Taehyung I'm here now and I want to be in your life, I want to make up for things I didn't and couldn't do for you in the past."

Taehyung nods, agreeing with whatever his mother was saying, "mum, I realise that I can't hate you, because there's no use to hating someone's mistake. And if you truly mean that you want to be in my life, then I'll allow you – I'm all for wanting you to be happy as well as myself," he starts, watching his mother's eyes gleam as she lunges on to him, giving the biggest hug she could muster. Taehyung, of course, was a bit tense, but soon, after a while, his arms slowly lock out of place, rising to wrap around his mother.

When she lets go of him she says, "well I have to head into work today, but I'll try get out of work a little earlier so that we can eat dinner tonight," she mumbles, flattening down her dress after folding the apron and putting it away, shutting the drawer quietly.

Taehyung nods, watching his mum get ready for work, as she rushes to pull on her coat, "gosh, look at the time, I'm morbidly late," she says, looking at the watch around her wrist. Taehyung just silently stands in the corner.

Suddenly, Taehyung's mind travels to Jungkook and the play. And without thinking he says,

"Mum?"

Taehyung's mother pauses, and turns around, "yes Taehyung?"

He walks forward, "I'm in a school play...and well the thing is, I was just wondering if you'd like to see it. It's going to be performed next week, by me and some people from the drama club," he says. His mother smiles, "oh I'd love to Taehyung," her skin glowing.

Taehyung fidgets with his fingers for a while, "the only thing is, I'm the main character...and the other main character is Jungkook – which means that..." Taehyung begins to trail off into thought.

Mouth a little open, Taehyung's mother just nods, "y-yeah that's fine, I'd love to see Jungkook, and meet him too. Maybe after the play we can go for some food."

Taehyung nods, and then watches his mother leave for work.

With a sigh, Taehyung grabs his phone, immediately calling Jungkook. After a few rings, Jungkook picks up, "hey Taehyung," his voice flows airily, making Taehyung's tense body relax, the minute that he hears Jungkook.

"Hey baby, so you won't believe what happened. My mum wants to meet you," Taehyung says, and before he can even explain, Jungkook squeals, "what? No! Taehyung!" Taehyung takes in a deep breath, "relax Koo, I invited her to see the play next week and she said that she wants to see you and go out for some food," Taehyung then explains. The line is silent for a few seconds until Jungkook decides to finally say with a sigh, "I hope she likes me," he trails off.

Taehyung flops onto his sofa, switching on the TV, "I was really surprised, she made me breakfast and said that she really wanted to be in my life, and then she topped it all off by saying that she wants to meet you," he says. Jungkook giggles, "when are you going to come over blueberry?" Jungkook asks, changing the subject. Taehyung groans, "shut it blondie."

Laughing a little bit louder, Jungkook says, "at least I'm a nice brownie, you're basically a bitter fruit." Rolling his eyes, Taehyung says, "you like this bitter fruit, so what does that say about you, huh Jungkook?"

Jungkook kisses his teeth, "I hate you."

"You know you love me," Taehyung snaps back, clicking through Netflix to find something to watch to pass time. But he'd much rather be spending time with Jungkook.
