49.
"Mum, I'm gay."
Taehyung takes a deep breath, awaiting for the screaming, crying and anger filled match to start. But no, it doesn't happen. Instead, he slowly feels his mum pull away from him, looking up at him with teary, glazed eyes. She lets out a deep, and ragged breath, "I always knew you were," she mumbles, stepping away.
"What?" Taehyung asks in confusion.
She sighs, fixing her hair a little bit, looking everywhere apart from Taehyung's calculating eyes. "I always had a feeling. Especially after you met that boy, Jungkook. The way your eyes twinkled when you introduced him as I was off to work. I knew you weren't just friends, and even if you were, you definitely didn't see him as one."
Taehyung is taken aback, he steps forward, "then why didn't you bring it up to me mum?" He asks desperately, a sudden, fleeting moment of hope arising in his chest. She sighs, "at first I didn't want it to be true. Losing my one love, and then my only son to homosexuality. But then I thought about it, and...yes, it hurt but I didn't hate your father for being gay, I hated myself for not accepting it."
"And Taehyung, I know, I know, that I haven't been the best mum for you. I..was never their for you. I drowned you in these horrid thoughts of hating on people for no reason," she continues desperately.
"I need help Taehyung. I need to talk to someone. I need to get this off of my chest," she cries out.
Taehyung doesn't realise it, but a single tear rolls down his cheek as he realises the pain that his mother must be in. The last few months, he should've noticed that she wasn't doing well, that she was losing herself more in work because her past was finally catching up to her, especially with the sudden realisation that her son might be gay, just as her husband was.
"You can talk to me, you...I admit mum, we don't talk, in fact, I'd avoid you just so that I wouldn't have to talk to you, but I see where I went wrong and I'm so sorry that...that I never, ever thought about the pain that you were going through," Taehyung pleads, searching his mother's eyes for any sign that she was understanding his words that came deeply from his heart.
She takes her son's hands, and holds them tightly in his, "you were the best son I could've ever had," she whispers, cheeks flushed, voice almost at a serene tone, "it was I, the one being a bad mother. Taehyung, tell me...why do you like him?"
At first, Taehyung thinks that she's joking - pulling at his leg harshly, that in the next second she'd wipe her tears away, pull out the biggest grin that she could muster and taunt at Taehyung, tell him that she was joking and could never love a son that was gay, just as she couldn't love a man that was gay.
But no, she really wanted to know.
Looking into her desperate eyes, Taehyung saw that it was a genuine question that she wanted the answer too, and only Taehyung could answer that question, because only Taehyung knew what it was like to love the blonde boy named Jeon Jungkook. The angel sent from heaven to bless Taehyung's dull and dim life, turning his every day in to a day filled with so many smiles, a day that, in one way, could be better than any amounts of diamond and pure gold.
Taehyung takes a deep breath, "when I see him look at me, all I feel is my heart racing. Like he's the only thing that matters in the world. As long as he's standing right in front of me, I can be happy. As long as I can touch him, I don't need materialistic things like money, or fame. I just need him. Because he makes me, me. After what I thought I could never find for the rest of my life, I found it in him. I found myself in him, with him, happy. I love him. Jeon Jungkook."
His mother is silent as she looks up to her son, and she notices the glazed look in his eyes, the slight red tinge in his cheeks, and the fact that, even in this saddening moment between both son and mother, thinking about Jungkook brought the corners of his lips to raise in a lovesick smile.
And that's when his mother realised: there was no stopping love.
"Love is the most powerful emotion son, you know that right," she says, taking a seat. Taehyung looks down at her with confusion, "what?" He asks, taking a seat next to her. She faces him, tucking a loose strand of her hair behind her ear, "it can make you do so much, and then make you feel as if you haven't done enough. The power of it, is that, it makes you feel powerless; it's...ironic really. That an emotion so strong, can make you feel so weak," Taehyung's mother scoffs with sarcasm.
She meets her son's eyes, "but if there's one thing, you can't stop it. You can't help it. You force yourself to succumb to it because... because it's comfort. The fact that you have a stable feeling in your life, while everything else around you is falling apart, makes you love, love."
"Mum, what are you trying to tell me?" Taehyung interrupts, still not getting the point of what Taehyung's mother was trying to tell him. She pauses, to take a good look at her son. Her son...god, she was really a bad mother. But she notices how Taehyung's skin has a certain glow around it, something that the sun couldn't bring, and she notices the slight twinkling, something that the artificial lighting also couldn't bring, and then finally, she sees how healthier he looks, and how he's carrying himself: he was happy, wasn't he?
"Taehyung, I never accepted your father...not because he was gay, but because I loved him, and it hurt to give him up. I should've realised that ages ago, and I shouldn't have...fed those lies onto you. Everyone deserves to love anyone they want to love. I... I'm proud of you coming out to me, I know that it must have been hard enough to fight against the ideas I forced into your mind, but even harder to build up the courage to tell me. But I promise Taehyung, I do accept you. Seeing my son so happy, made me realise the lie I've been telling myself to make it easier to live, to make the days pass. But now I see how wrong that it, and how, in the end, it made the pain a million times worse," she looks at Taehyung, and before he can comment she says, very loudly and clearly, "I'm sorry son, and I love you."
The words come at a shock to Taehyung, having never experienced affection from his mother before, he feels at a loss, like he doesn't know what to say or do, having never been in a moment like this before.
He freezes for a mere second, until a tiny voice at the back of his mind tells him to snap out of it and console his mother. In a split second, he wraps his arms around his mum, hugging her tightly, the both of them rocking back and forth in comfort. Taehyung closes his eyes in relief, and then a sudden thought rushes over him: she accepted him.
Even after everything that she's been through, she broke down all of her walls just to see her son happy, just to make her son's happiness last even longer.
Maybe she wasn't that bad.
Pulling away from her Taehyung stands up, "I'm...I've got to see Jungkook," he says, a little weird that he can now be open with his mother about the fact that he had a boyfriend.
Taehyung's mother sniffles, wiping her eyes, and with a short, awkward chuckle, she says, "I expect that you want to celebrate with him?"
Was his mother trying to joke with him?
The mint haired male awkwardly laughs and nods, and tries to head out of the living room, but is stopped when his mother adds, "you know that these walls are paper thin?"
Blushing, Taehyung quickly runs out of the house, making sure to grab the nearest jacket he could see. It was supposed to rain later on in the night, and if he was to walk all the way to Jungkook's home, he wouldn't want to fall sick from the rain. But at the same time, being pelted by the rain didn't feel so bad, he needed to feel refreshed and maybe walking in the rain wasn't such a good idea.
Staring up at the night sky, Taehyung smiles, feeling the cold wind skim past his skin, that had goosebumps on them.
The moon looked beautiful tonight. And even though the weather app predicted rain, the night sky was as cloudless as could be. A perfect night to be soppy and announce love for each other, Taehyung thought as he made his way slowly to Jungkook's house. Why slowly? Because he had all the time in the world to get there. He needn't rush, he should take his time and get there whenever he was going to get there. Taehyung smiles a little, thinking about how things had turned out - he truly was beginning to think that this was the happiest in his life.
And he couldn't wait to spend these moments with Jungkook. He had all the time in the world and yet, he wanted to hurry and get to Jungkook, and spend these few moments with the beautiful blonde bunny. After all, if Taehyung was anything, he was realistic - and even the mint haired male knew that all emotions never last forever, even emotions like happiness.
Taehyung takes a moment to think to himself, at the start of the academic year, he'd never thought himself to be in love with a boy, in a talking point with his mother and actually doing well at school, but look at him now, and it was all thanks to Jeon Jungkook: the boy that Taehyung was completely head over heels for.
Love was only a four letter word, but it carried so many memories that would last a lifetime to Taehyung...even if he didn't get to have a lifetime with Jungkook (he hoped he did though.)
The first ever time they spoke properly at Jimin's party, oh how funny that was. Jungkook was so confident that Taehyung wanted him, he did but that wasn't the point. The day that Taehyung realised he sort of had feelings for Jungkook, that day was something of a ground breaking revalation. The day they told each other that they were in love, that was the best memory by far, it made Taehyung's heart melt and pool into a puddle on the ground, it made his fingers twitch with so much happiness that he couldn't contain it or himself.
He finally reaches Jungkook's home, and knocks on the front door. In a minute or so, the door swings open to revealing a very flustered Jungkook. His blonde hair messy, lips bitten and swollen out of stress, dried tears of worry prominent on his cheek.
Taehyung pauses at the sight of Jungkook, he couldn't wait any longer. He presses his lips to the boy's, kissing him with a small moan.
