Chapter 6
"Come on, you don't look bad."
"I look like a slut."
Caitlyn made a grimace as if saying "No, you don't" but she didn't say anything, because she knew I was right. I did look like a slut.
She had been preparing me for the dreaded double date for the past two hours. She made me wash my hair and shower, even though I did the day before. Then she made me shave my legs, something I barely ever do. Then she offered to find me an outfit. And many wouldn't think so, but the last act was the longest and most painful one. For an entire hour, I have literally tried on every piece of clothing I own, even some of Caitlyn's, and we were still searching for the outfit that we both liked.
Right now I was wearing a crop top and a skirt shorter than some of the belts I own.
"This is ridiculous," I sighed and started pulling the shirt over my head.
"Indeed. Just wear whatever you want," She sighed and fell into an armchair, clearly tired of her own crap. I was so glad she finally was.
I placed the tiny articles of clothing on her bed, since they were from her wardrobe, and picked up my grey shorts that I had already tried, and a Radiohead shirt. I pulled on my blue vans and after I put my hair into a ponytail, I made the hour an a half wasted on nothing.
I looked at myself in the mirror, finally satisfied, and turned to Caitlyn.
"Isn't this better than anything else we've tried?" I asked optimistically.
Cait stood up with her head held high, clearly not happy with the fact that I could find a decent outfit without her help.
"Whatever floats your boat," She said and left our dorm, letting her short navy dress flutter as she walked. I rolled my eyes and picked up my Blackberry and keys before following her out.
*******
"So I walked past them, and she turned around and- wait, where are you going?"
I was in the middle of telling Caitlyn a story, when she started running away from me. I was about to start going after her, before I noticed why she had left me like that; Devon was just a few meters away from us.
I had to admit, he was really good looking. Short, light brown hair, blue-green eyes and tall; very tall. About 4 inches taller than Caitlyn, I'd say. It could have something to do with the fact that he was a senior.
Behind him, a bit shorter guy was walking toward me with a smug smirk on his face. I would have ran away if I wasn't doing this for Cait.
"Hello, lovely," Louis said as he approached me, and gave me a semi-tight hug. I put my hands on his waist so it wouldn't look suspicious to his friend.
"Hi, Louis," I said and lightly pushed him away. He took a couple of steps back and sighed, scratching the back of his neck.
"So, guys, where are you taking us?" Caitlyn said and and looked up at her date, whose waist she had her arms wrapped around.
"We're taking you to a nearby local club, it's just a few blocks away," Devon said with a smile and Louis nodded in approvement.
While Caitlyn was grinning from ear to ear, I felt like someone had just told me I was being sent to jail.
"A c-club? No way," I shook my head. I hated clubs. I wasn't exactly someone who likes do dance and drinks Cosmopolitan.
"Come on, we'll have a blast," Devon said with a pleading smile, and even though he was Caitlyn's date, I couldn't help but want to take him home with me.
"Yeah, come on," Cait said, raising her eyebrows as a warning.
I sighed, giving in. "Alright, let's go."
"Yay!" Caitlyn chirped as Devon grinned wider; even Louis had a smile on his face when I agreed to go to the goddamn club.
We all started walking down the street, me and Louis behind Caitlyn and Devon. I watched them talk, he made her laugh so much. I made a mental note to myself to throw her out of the window of our dorm if she fucks up things with this guy too.
A touch that I wasn't expecting pulled me out of my thoughts; Louis had placed a his arm around me, so his hand was on my shoulder. I quickly slapped it away and, thankfully, it worked. I straightened my shirt and started walking a bit faster, not caring that I was leaving Louis behind.
Unfortunatelly for me, he did care, so he once again put his arm around me and pulled me into him so that our bodies were pressed together. What the fuck was he doing?!
I tried pulling away from him, but he only lowered his arm so it was around my waist, and brought me back close to him again.
I huffed, frustrated. "What are you doing?"
Louis smiled, the annoyance in my voice obvious from miles away.
"We're on a date, right? I'm just acting the way a guy does when he's on one," He said like it was the most normal and obvious thing in the world.
"Do I have to remind you that I'm doing this for Caitlyn, and you're doing it for Devon?" I hissed, glaring at Louis.
"Hey, you might be doing this for Caitlyn, but I'm doing it because I want to," Before I could respond, he lowered his head so his lips were against my ear.
"And remember what I told you in the grocery shop yesterday? I'm pretty sure I was right," He said lowly, leaving me speechless and staring into space.
He couldn't have been serious about that. Me having feelings for him, because our professor made us kiss? It sounds ridiculous.
I brushed the thought off as I noticed Devon and Caitlyn had stopped walking.
"This is it," Devon said and I looked up at the sign. "Green" was the name of the club, and it was open 24/7. Like hell, I thought.
We got in, and it surprisingly wasn't that crowded, but we couldn't find four available chairs at the bar, so Louis and I sat while Devon and Caitlyn went to dance. I made a mental note to myself to yell at her when we get to our dorm.
"Anything to drink?" The waiter asked us.
"Beer," Louis and I said in unison, the waiter smirking at us as we did.
"Didn't know you were a drinker," Louis said, and I could hear the smirk in his voice.
"I'm not," I snapped, looking at him. "It's just that this situation is making me want to drown myself in alcohol."
Louis laughed at my comment. "Aw, come on love, this isn't so bad. Seriously," He looked around, and so did I. The club was actually decent looking; the purple lights were dimmed and it didn't smell like sweat and alcohol like in most clubs.
"Well, the club is okay," I said, taking my beer from the bartender. "The shit I'm in isn't." I took a large sip from my bottle as Louis turned to me.
"You know, you complain a lot," He said, glaring at me, though I could see amusement in his eyes as well.
I pretty much slammed the bottle on the table.
"Excuse me?" I said, my eyebrows raised.
"We're not even doing anything, and you're acting like I'm some sleazy dirtbag that's hitting on you."
"You are a sleazy dirtbag," I said boldly, making Louis laugh. "You're just not hitting on me."
"Well then," He said, standing up. "I guess I could make your night worth complaining. Care to dance?" He offered me his hand.
I looked at him in disbelief. "Are you kidding me? I don't want to dance with you!"
"Too bad," He said, grabbing my wrist and pulling me off the stool. "Because you'll have to." With that, he dragged me to the dance floor and when we were in the middle of it, he pulled me close to him, wrapping his arms around my waist. I guess he was capable of making things worse than they already are.
I had no choice except to put my hands on Louis' chest, near his collarbones. With his arms around my waist, it was the furthest I could be from him.
A slow song came on as we started moving. I sighed, all the couples around us either hugging each other close or snogging. Caitlyn and Devon for instance, were doing both.
I felt Louis' hands go further up my waist, and that made me turn to him. He didn't stop until his hands were atop of mine. He pulled my hands so my arms were around his neck and then returned his to their previous position, around my waist. Only this time, he could hug me much closer to him than before. Much closer than I'd wanted him to.
And even though our proximity did bother me on some level, I did nothing to change it. It also felt kind of comfortable, being this close to him. I didn't know if it was because of the fact that we had grown close to each other, as much as I denied it, or the fact that he had a six-pack under his shirt that I could feel pretty damn well right now.
I felt his hand rub up and down my back. "This isn't so bad, is it?" He almost whispered, his face slightly closer to mine, so close I could feel his breath on my skin. I felt as if I were in a trance; I couldn't move, I couldn't speak, I could just stare into his eyes, that I had just noticed were blue.
His lips on mine is what made me snap out of my hypnosis; I definitely wasn't expecting that. I moved my arms from around his neck and lightly pushed him away.
"What's wrong?" He breathed out, pulling away so he could look me in the eyes. And standing there, looking at him, made me realize he was right yesterday. Whatever it was that I was feeling for him, I was feeling it. It was time to stop lying to myself.
I shook my head. "Nothing," I breathed and went to kiss him again.
"LORENA!" I heard my name being screamed and it made me jump; Louis held me tighter as we both turned to where the voice was coming from.
Sure enough, we saw Caitlyn there, marching over to us, her eyes red and make up smudged. Had she been crying?
"We're leaving," She said, her voice firm and weak in the same time. Completely ignoring Louis, she grabbed my wrist and pulled me out of his arms. What the hell?!
"Caitlyn, what-"
"I don't want to talk about it!" She shouted, cutting me off, and continued dragging me out of the club.
I turned around to look at Louis, who had a mix of emotions spread across his face, with shock as the first one that caught my eye.
"I'm sorry," I mouthed and he just blinked, before shaking his head almost unnoticeably. I didn't get to see his next reaction, because I was already out of the club.
"What the actual fuck?" I shouted at Caitlyn, who was now practically jogging down the street.
"He has a girlfriend," She sniffed and I sighed. He did look too good to be true.
"Oh my God," I placed my hand over my forehead. This was just ideal.
"I know, right?" Caitlyn said, frustrated.
"Yeah, but honey, he's just another guy. We shouldn't have left like that," I said sincerely, trying to hide the fact that I wasn't glad about us leaving.
Sadly, Caitlyn slowed down. "What happened with you and Louis? What did you do?" She was looking at me with a smirk tugging at her lips. Well, I could at least feel good about making her forget about Devon for a second.
"Nothing, nothi-"
"Lorena? Cait raised her eyebrows at me, as if saying "Don't give me that bullshit".
I sighed. "He kissed me. There."
I swear I thought her eyes would fall out of her skull.
"Did you kiss him back?" She exclaimed, "excited" written all over her features.
"No," I said firmly. "I pulled away, but... I did want to kiss him again."
Cait let out a small gasp in disbelief. "Well why didn't you?" She shouted as if it were a serios issue.
"You pulled me out of the goddamn place!" I shouted back and suddenly all the excitement left her face and was replaced by regret and guilt.
"I'm sorry, I'm so sor-"
"Don't," I said before she could start crying again. "It's probably better this way."
Caitlyn frowned at me. "What? Why?"
"Because I, I don't know... I wasn't thinking straight. I would probably be regretting it by now," I sighed and Caitlyn just nodded, before we continued walking down the street.
As she complained to me about Devon, I couldn't help but think about what would have happened if I had kissed Louis. Would I really be regretting it by now? I did feel like that. But back at the club I was an entirely different person.
In the end I came to the conclusion that I really wasn't thinking straight, and that I really would be regretting my actions now. I guess I should be thankful to Caitlyn for pulling me out like that, 'cause God only knows what kind of shit would have gone down if she didn't.
