"Call me as soon as the train takes off, okay?" I said, for the fiftieth time. "Or at least text me. As soon as it takes off, you hear me?"
"Lori, if you keep doing this, it's gonna take off without me," Caitlyn said uneasily, probably because I had my arms wrapped around her neck so tightly she could barely breathe.
"That's what I'm aiming for," I commented.
"Lorena!"
"Alright, alright." I pulled away from her, and gave her a pout. "I'm gonna miss you."
"I'm going to miss you." She pouted as well, and we ended up hugging again.
"Oh, come on!" We both laughed at the annoyed Louis, who had been staring at us say goodbye to each other for the past five minutes.
"Okay," I said, a little uneasy, and let go of Caitlyn for real. When I looked at her, she was pouting.
"Promise me you'll take care of my baby?"
I rolled my eyes; she almost loved her car more than me.
"I promised you like 40 times today," I said with a smile, but it soon disappeared when I came back to reality. I pressed my lips together and waved at her while she did the same, as she walked inside the long vehicle.
If Louis hadn't been there, I would have probably started crying too. I didn't know would it be because I was sad that Cait was leaving or because of being scared for her. Hm, probably both.
I noticed her sit next to the window, and smile when she looked outside of it and saw me still there. I smiled as well, waving at her one last time, before hearing Louis' voice again.
"Let's go, love," He said quietly in my ear, and started gently tugging me away from the train. It wasn't until I couldn't see the train anymore, that I stopped looking and waving over my shoulder.
"Don't worry about her." I felt Louis' hand rubbing my arm. "She's going to be fine. Everything's gonna be okay."
I looked up at him as he gave me a reassuring smile. After keeping my lips pressed in a line for a few seconds, I released them along with a sigh, and nodded. "Yeah," I said uneasily. "I guess you're right."
"Alright. Now, do you want to go somewhere? For a coffee, maybe?"
"No," I responded immediately. "I just want to go home. I'm too bummed about Caitlyn leaving to do anything."
Louis was quiet for a few seconds. "Wow," He said after a minute of silence. "Don't get me wrong, but that's not exactly how I'd imagined our first night alone."
"Well, baby, if you were expecting some crazy monkey sex..." I just shrugged instead of finishing my sentence, and watched my boyfriend as he doubled over in laughter.
"Okay, seriously, you need to stop watching How I Met Your Mother so much." As soon as the words left his mouth, I started furiously shaking my head, making him laugh again.
"But that's my favourite show! Like... You don't even understand!" I placed my hands over my chest and bounced a few times as I walked, trying to make a point, causing Louis to wrap his arms around me and lift me off the ground. And make me scream, of course.
"If you don't stop, I'm gonna have to tie you up," He said as he carried me over his shoulder for a few seconds, before letting me down.
"Ooh, who's been reading Fifty Shades of Grey?" Louis immediately started shaking his head, fear spreading across his face, making me laugh this time.
"Certainly not me," He said, still shaking his head, and I unexpectedly wrapped my arm around his back. It took him a second to realize what was going on, but then he put his arm around my shoulder, and pulled me closer to him.
"Did this take your mind off of Caitlyn at least a little bit?" He asked, his voice quieter and more serious than before. I sighed, feeling that same rock hit my chest at the mention of my best friend's trip home.
"To be honest, yeah, a little... Now can we please not talk about it?" I asked awkwardly, looking around. He actually did manage to distract me from the thought of Caitlyn in a train, and now that I knew how it felt not to think about it, I wanted not to think about it again.
"Alright," Louis said, and kissed the top of my head, just as we'd made it to Caitlyn's car.
"So, what do you want to do tonight? Watch a movie, or?" Louis asked when we were both in the car, and he'd started the engine
"Well, actually..." When I thought about it, I didn't want to go home and be all sad; he and I had another week to spend together, before he went home to Doncaster. And I knew he didn't want to spend those seven days looking at me as I stared out the window with a vacant expression.
"We could do something," I said sweetly, causing Louis to look at me while driving.
"Um, what do you mean?" He said nervously; he knew exactly what I'd meant.
"You know what I mean," I voiced my thought with a smirk on my face.
"But... B-But you just said you don't want any crazy monkey sex," He said, so quickly and seriously, it made me laugh.
"Well, maybe not exactly the crazy monkey kind, but... We could turn the lights off, and light some candles, and I'll put that red lingerie that you bought me as a joke."
Louis let out a shaky breath. Success. "You'd actually wear that?"
"Yes... And then we'll make it like in those movies, you know. You'll be lying in bed, and I'll come out of the bathroom, wearing nothing but two layers of clothing and a smile on my- hey! What the fuck?!" My seductive whispering was in an instant replaced with mental shouting, as Louis drastically sped up.
"What?" Louis said, as if nothing happened. "I'm just trying to get to the apartment as soon as possible."
"Oh, God," I laughed, shaking my head; boys. "Why, though?" I teased.
He sighed. "Lorena, I've never really met anyone who bursts through the door in the wrong moment, as much as your best friend does. If you know what I mean." Louis glanced at me as I started laughing yet again. He was right though; how many times had Caitlyn already interrupted us? Eight? Nine? I swear, whenever we kissed, she'd just appear from nowhere.
"And, um... There's something that I want to ask you." I stopped laughing and looked at Louis; his eyes were glued to the road, looking like he didn't want to face me.
"What is it?" I asked, not daring myself to think of anything, good or bad.
"Well... I was talking to my mum the other day, and... She said she'd love it if you came to Doncaster with me." Louis gulped, and even then, he didn't look at me. Which turned out to be a good thing; I was sure my eyes were going to fall out of my skull.
"Are you serious?" I pressed my palm against my chest, feeling like I'd have a heart attack any moment now.
"Just think about it, okay? I know you probably want to go home too, but-"
"I'd love to!" I beamed, causing Louis to finally look at me.
"Seriously?"
"Yes! Oh my God!" I broke into a giggling fit, and had to cover my mouth in excitement; I was going to meet my boyfriend's family. For real.
"One last time, are you sure?" Louis asked with a smile on his face; he knew I was sure, but I understood that he couldn't believe it. It was a drastic decision, after all.
"I am," I said, my voice firm, before I started grinning again. "I mean, I wasn't planning to go home this summer, and I'd be alone at the apartment, since Caitlyn had gone home and-"
In a flash, I remembered Caitlyn. "And why the fuck isn't she calling me, Jesus Christ! It's been like 15 fucking minutes, the train had surely took off by now! Oh my God." Just like that, my mood changed completely, and I slumped back in my seat, my arms crossed over my chest.
"Hey, hey," Louis said, not looking at me. "Have I told you not to worry? She's probably sleeping or something."
"Well she could have at least texted me, if nothing!" I exclaimed. "She knows how worried I get when-"
I jumped in my seat as my phone vibrated, and I pulled it out of my pocket. This better be her, I thought.
Fortunately, it really was Caitlyn, sending me a message. Although, my smile of relief immediately disappeared when I noticed she had messaged me... On Facebook. Damn notifications.
"Oh God," I groaned, making Louis glance at me.
"Is that her? Is she okay?"
"I don't know!" I threw my hands in the air. "She messaged me on Facebook! Ugh, I should have known, she never has money on her cell, only that stupid free internet thing... Is there any Wi-Fi here?" I started waving my phone around the car, looking for any kind of signals, but I already knew it was hopeless; we were on the fucking highway.
"Please, just wait until we're home," Louis said, but I started shaking my head.
"No! What if she's not okay? What if the same thing happened? What if she dies until we get home?!" Before I became any more frantic, Louis pulled his phone out of his pocket, and threw it in my lap.
"Use my phone, I have the stupid free internet thing too," He said, sounding annoyed, but then gave me a smile, which I gladly returned.
"Thank you, thank you, thank you!" I unbuckled my seatbelt so I could hug Louis, who started laughing when I wrapped my arms around him.
"Alright, alright, now sit down and buckle your seatbelt in. I don't want any accidents happening on the highway."
I sat down and did as I was told, quickly pressing the button to unlock his phone, just to see the same pattern thing I saw the other day when I tried invading his privacy. Hmpf.
"Unlock, please?" I pressed my lips together as I held his phone in the air, and he quickly drew the pattern, not looking away from the road. It took him three times to get it right, but when he did, I was sure I was hearing angels.
"Yay!" I quietly cheered, and pressed the blue icon, expecting the 'enter your email' thing to come up. But just like when I was expecting 'slide to unlock' to appear and it didn't, this time I also didn't get what I was expecting; turns out, Louis was still logged in.
And to top that, it seemed that he hadn't closed the app completely, as I was redirected straight to his inbox. Oh, yay.
After I realized what the case was, I sighed, and tried looking for the 'log out' box, without looking at his messages. But as expected, I failed.
I didn't fail because I wanted to see who he was chatting with or anything; I failed because I saw my name multiple times. Along with the words 'dare' and 'bet'.
I frowned, forgetting all about not wanting to invade his privacy, and looked at the first few words of each message without opening any of them. And to say that I was shocked by what they said, would be an understatement.
So hows the dare thing with lorena goin? i heard from rhys abt it and...
is it true tht ur trying to get Cloe in ur bed and failing? Lol omg, never...
your pathetic. lol. asking cloe to be ur girlfriend so u could fuck her is...
srsly mate, we had this bet two months ago. when r you goint to make...
I always thought Lorena was an intelligent girl, but omfg, if she fell for...
i feel sorry for lorena lol, she doesnt deserve to be fucked over like that...
people r saying u still havent slept with cloe. did u give up on the bet?
I was literally taken aback by that last one. Not just the last one, but with that one, I managed to realize what was going on, sort of, at least. I was a part of some sort of a dare that includes Louis and sex?
The first thing I wanted to do was ask Louis what was going on, and what was the deal with all the messages about the same thing. But if I did that, he'd think I was snooping around, and I really wasn't. It was accidentally.
But he wouldn't know that, so I decided to put on an act for him.
"Oh, shoot!" I said loudly, making sure to catch his attention.
"What is it?" Success.
"Looks like you haven't logged out of your account... The damn thing led me to your inbox!" I quickly looked up at Louis, to observe his expression. If nothing was going on, he'd just say 'log out of it yourself,' or something like that already. But to my dismay, his face went blank, before horror filled his eyes. Something was definitely off.
"Give me that." He didn't even wait for my response; he just snatched his phone away, tapping the screen a few times before giving it back to me. "Here you go," He said, and when I looked down, I noticed he had just logged out.
"Although..." I started again, not paying any attention to the phone in my hands anymore. "I couldn't help but notice my name there, quite a few times."
"Did you go through my messages?" He asked quickly.
"No, and as it appears, neither did you." I said sternly, remembering the boxes were a light blue color, meaning the message wasn't opened.
Louis didn't say anything for a while, but I noticed him gripping the steering wheel tighter, and his breathing became heavier. "Oh, God."
"What was that?" I snapped.
"N-Nothing, nothing... Lorena, those messages... They're nothing."
I stared at him for a few seconds. "No, they definitely are something. Louis, don't give me that look, I know what I saw!"
"And what did you see?"
"Something about some sort of a dare, and I'm a part of it too."
He didn't say anything again; this time, he gulped a few times, looking like he was having trouble breathing. Any other time, I would have asked him if he was okay or something, but this time, the sight of him like that made me nothing but angrier.
"Care to explain?" I raised my eyebrows.
He took another few deep breaths. "Okay," He finally said. "Just... Promise me you won't get angry."
"I'm already angry."
"Then promise me you won't get angrier."
"I'm already angrier!"
Louis sighed again, hanging his head down, before looking out the windshield again. "Alright. This is the thing, um... A few months ago, my friends, they, um, dared me to... You know..."
"Sleep with me?" I finished his sentence for him, literally feeling like my heart was sinking.
"Uh... Yes." Exactly what I was afraid of. "But that's not all, I promise! Lorena, you... You're actually really special to me, and-"
"Wait," I interrupted him. "Are you saying that... Your friends dared you to have sex with me, and... That is why you'd never left me alone?"
"Well, when you say it like that..."
"Excuse me?"
"Yes, that's how it was."
I stared at him for a few seconds. I've no idea how I was feeling; whether I was angry, devastated, or confused. Probably all three. But mostly confused.
"So you're using me?" I said bluntly, after I looked away from him.
"No, Lorena, that's not what this is! I'm not using you anymore, I actually-"
"So you were using me?" I cut him off, my own breathing becoming heavy as well, as everything I'd just been told sunk into my brain.
His silence was the only answer I needed. "Stop the car."
"Babe, just listen to me!"
"No. Stop the car."
"Look, if I wanted to use you, I would have left after the first time we had sex!"
"Which you tried," I said, more to myself, as I remembered that nightmare of his, if there actually was any nightmare. He just wanted to leave because he'd gotten what he'd wanted. "Stop the car."
"Lorena, please."
"Louis, I said, stop the car," I said, as calmly as I could, the facts I just found out about making me feel a little dizzy. By now, I'd completely forgotten about Caitlyn and the train. The only thing that was on my mind was finding out that the reason Louis and I were together, was a dare. A challenge. And that's all I was to him; a challenge.
"We're in the middle of a bridge-"
"Just stop the fucking car!"
