Chapter 36
~A/N~
So this is a short, apparently important filler chapter that I wasn't really planning to write, but felt the need to, since some people think Monica is going to tell Lorena about the dare/her and Louis' fun night. Oh my God.
In other news, the Wattpad app on my phone keeps messing with me, so if you have any questions or anything really, I recommend contacting me on Twitter, @funkystyles_ :) Ok, enjoy now!

"Zach," I heard my name being called for the umpteenth time in the last 20 minutes, but I kept pretending like I was asleep.
"Zach?" Ugh, I hated how persistent he was. Seriously, why don't you just leave a person alone when they're sleeping? Or at least pretending to?
"Zach!"
I let out a sharp breath as I felt a soft object against the side of my head, indicating that Louis had just smacked me with a pillow.
The dickhead.
"I'm up, I'm up!" I shouted and turned on my back, my hands in the air for a few seconds before falling down on my stomach. I sighed, accepting the fact that I wasn't going to get anymore sleep, and finally opened my eyes.
I was a little startled to see my best friend practically hanging over me, with a wide grin on his face. "Louis," I said softly. "Are you mad?"
"No," He retorted sharply, acting all offended. "I'm just bored."
"Can't you call Lorena or something? I'm really tired."
He grimaced. "I did call her, and she's at church. So I'm gonna need you to entertain me."
I frowned, and looked at my wristwatch that was on the nightstand. Hm, 9:20am on Sunday, pretty normal time to be at church, I thought as I buckled it around my wrist.
"Alright then," I said through another sigh, letting my forearms fall on my torso again. "You've other friends, Lou, I'm sure Rhys or Ollie would hang out with you, yeah?"
"No," He said again, shaking his head just the slightest. "It's nine on a Sunday morning, no one's insane enough to hang out with me at this time... Except you!"
I groaned as Louis grinned, and tried to turn on my side, but Louis pulled me on my back, again.
"Come on," He whined. "We'll just talk."
"Talk?" I repeated quietly, as Louis stood up and went to the teeny kitchen. "When I last checked, I'm the gay one, Lou."
"Oh," Louis laughed, surprising me, as he carried two cups of soda and gave me one. "Not from what I've heard and seen last night."
I almost choked on my morning drink as Louis finished his sentence; what did that even mean? Did he see me with Monica the previous evening? Did he recognize her? Oh God, if he-
"So, who is she?" Louis interrupted my thoughts, and I lightly shook my head. If I told him, he'd kill me. That's all. One moment I'd be here, breathing the same air as him, and the next one I'd be drinking water from God's toilet.
"Tell me!" He exclaimed when I remained quiet for a few long seconds, bouncing on my bed. I started fidgeting my hands as my heart rate increased, which wasn't a very good thing after I've just woken up.
I mean, would he really kill me if I told him I was having a thing with Monica? Sure, he'd be angry, and maybe injure me, but I don't think he'd want to carry me on his soul for the rest of his life.
"Um, i-it's nothing," I lied, trying to get him off my back, since I really didn't want to make something up.
"Nothing?" He said in disbelief. "From what I saw, she was blonde, hot, and you were sucking her face off, Zachary, so don't lie to me."
"Wouldn't Lorena be a little... Displeased if she heard you talking about girls like that?" I quickly tried changing the subject, and for a second, I thought it worked, as Louis shrugged.
"She knows I wouldn't do anything to hurt her." He shifted in his seat, obviously feeling a little awkward. Aw. "Besides, knowing you, this must be a special someone. So... Who is she?!"
I chuckled at Louis' whiney voice. "It's Monica," I said out of the blue, with such ease he'd think I didn't have a problem with it. But I did; and age is just one of them.
To my surprise, he grinned. "That's a cute name, oh my God, remember that chick I met at the ba-" Louis started saying but stopped in the middle of his sentence when I gave him a sad, sorry look. He must have realized what I was afraid to say, as his eyes widened and his mouth formed a perfect "o" shape.
For a few very long moments, Louis didn't say anything, and I was just waiting to get punched. Eventually, he started shaking his head. "No," He simply stated, as if I'd just asked him if he wanted mayo on his sandwich.
"No, you can't... A-Are you kidding me? Monica? As in, Monica-Monica?" For a second I wanted to laugh at his stunned expression, but then I saw rage flash through his eyes, and made all of the humour inside me die.
"Um..." I started, but didn't say anything after; we both knew the answer to that question.
Louis shook his head again and closed his eyes, a frown appearing on his face. "I-I don't understand... Did you stay in touch with her after that night, or...?"
"Uh, no," I said bluntly. "I hadn't seen her since, and then she showed up at the game last night... Her brother was playing for UCL and all..."
"And how did you end up snogging her?" He asked sternly, making me shift uncomfortably.
"We were talking, you know, and... There's more to her than what y-you got to see. She's not that bad," I said, my voice becoming less and less firm with every word I said.
"Nope, she's not bad at all... I can't believe this," Louis muttered, and surprised me as he started laughing a second later. The sight was kind of creepy too. "You know, all this time I thought you were only dumb for school, but now I realize you're dumb for life as well."
Okay, the usual insulting, I was expecting that anyway. But... What did that even mean?
"What are you talking about?" I was almost scared to ask, as I watched Louis pace around our dorm, his hands mostly in his hair. I became officially scared when he laughed again; why did he feel the need to become all Satan-like when he was angry?!
"Don't you get it, you moron?" He said calmly, stopping in the middle of the room to look at me. As soon as he laid eyes on me, his creepy smile disappeared. Uh-oh.
"She's only doing this to get back at me! You think she wants to be with you, after you spent one fucking hour together, ages ago?!" Well, that's kind of harsh... "No!" Well that's even harsher.
"It's the absolute perfect plan! She's gonna come here, and act like she's in fucking love with you, and when she'll see Lorena and..." Louis tried finding the right words, but ended up throwing his hands in the air.
"I don't even want to think about it!" He shouted, knocking some books off a shelf, before looking at me. "Why couldn't you think about it? Did you even think about anything at all?!"
I know he was giving me questions, but I knew better than to answer; for some reason, he considered that talking back. He didn't quite want to admit it, but I think he'd developed anger issues over the past years, because of girls that managed to screw him over, when it was supposed to be the other way around.
Louis shook his head, and grabbed a shirt. "I swear," He started, furiously putting it on. "If Lorena finds out and something happens, you're dead to me." With that, he left our dorm.
Pressing my lips together, I nodded to myself. That went better than I thought it would.
Still, I couldn't help but think about his words. Not because he'd insulted me or anything; I've learnt not to take his words of anger seriously over the years.
I seriously didn't think Monica would want to do such a thing. What if she had that speech prepared? What if she was just waiting for me to call her so she could bump into Lorena? Now when I think about it... Why didn't I think about it?
I was extremely tempted to call her, and ask her about it. But what was I supposed to say? Hey, I know it's half past nine on a weekend morning, but I have to ask you. Are you using me?
The thought of potentially being used by a girl, made me sick. Like I literally wanted to go to the bathroom and vomit. That's exactly why I needed to call her; as soon as possible, too.
I didn't care that it was early. Okay... Maybe I cared a little bit, but not enough to let her sleep or keep on doing whatever it is that she was doing.
I got out of my bed, and after rummaging through my jeans for a few seconds, I found the crumpled piece of paper. My hands were slightly shaky as I dialed her number; I was quite scared that Louis could be right. It was my fault, anyway, I was the one creating the perfect picture of her in my mind, and now I was probably going to get slapped by life.
"Hello?" I jumped a little, not expecting her to pick up so quickly.
"Hey, um... Monica?" I asked stupidly as I sat down on my bed again.
"Yes... Who is this?"
I sighed. "It's Zach."
"Oh, um..." I heard her breathe out a giggle. Even over the phone it sounded cute. "Hey, Zach. What's up?"
"I didn't wake you up?" I had to make sure.
"No, my mum needed some help this morning, since Caleb is currently useless... That's my brother," She added in the end, as if being able to tell I was confused. "And... Now I can't go back to sleep," She said in a whiney voice. "So I'm reading."
"Reading? What are you reading?"
Silence. "Um..." Some more silence. "It's an online book."
I grinned to myself. "Monica, are you reading fanfiction?"
"Hey!" She shouted, causing me to pull my phone away from my ear. I'll take that as a yes, then. "How do you know about fanfiction?"
"I used to share my laptop with my sister, and she never deleted the history before giving it back to me," I said, the grin still on my face.
"Well... Fair enough," Monica muttered, and I could tell she didn't want me to hear that.
"So you're really reading a fanfic?"
"Enough about me, how have you been?" I laughed as she changed the subject; I again took that as a yes.
"Uh, good, good. School's over, and now we just have to wait to see how we did on our exams," I said, almost the entire sentence through a sigh.
"And then you go home?"
"Yeah."
"Okay... Where are you from, by the way?"
"Um, Wexford."
"Wex-what?" I rolled my eyes; people really needed to work on their geography. "Where the hell is that?"
"Ireland," I stated simply, and waited for that long breath people would let out when they realized.
"Ohhh." And I got it. "You do have quite a weird accent, if we're being honest here."
I breathed out a laugh as I played with the duvet, not quite knowing how to ask her about that dumb thing.
So I decided to do it indirectly. Kind of.
"Hey, you... You wanna go out tomorrow or something?" I questioned casually.
"Um, okay. Just tell me what time and place."
"No, you pick that." I could practically touch my fear as I waited for her to answer.
"Alright," Monica said, sounding a little confused. "How about we go somewhere for lunch? I'm always in the mood for tacos so-"
"You wouldn't want to come here?" I felt like slapping myself for cutting her off like that.
She was quiet for a few seconds. "Well if you have work to do or something, then... I guess I could. Just let's not say goodbye like last time, okay?"
I knew she wanted to joke, but that was the last thing on my mind. "What if you saw Louis though? Or his girlfriend?"
"Alright, Zach, what the fuck is going on?"
The sudden change of her tone literally made me sit up. I should probably practice on being more transparent. "Um... I..." I stuttered, but nothing came out.
"You obviously want to tell me something, so just spit it out."
I sighed heavily, accepting the fact that I might not see her again, for good. "Lou made me tell him about, um, you and me, and... Well, he freaked out, and told me you're just using me to get back at him so..."
"You wanted to make sure?" I widened my eyes at how soft her voice had become in just a few seconds; good sign.
"Yeah, I... Yeah." I nodded and gulped. Here it comes.
"No," Monica simply said. "No, Zach, I... I'm not like that. I know it's kind of hard to believe, but I'm not evil. I'm just a little mean from time to time, but who isn't?"
When I said nothing, she sighed. "He really didn't do anything to me, so I don't have a reason to think about revenge or anything. It went wrong, yes, but think about it. If you hadn't stopped us, his girlfriend would have found him in bed with another girl, and you and I wouldn't have met. Everything turned out quite well for all of us."
I smiled, still playing with the duvet. It's gonna be hard to convince Louis that she means no harm, but at least I knew. That was enough, for now.
"I do think she deserves to know, though," Monica said after a few seconds of silence. "But I'm not the one she should find out from." Good thinking.
"They weren't together back then," I stated quietly.
"Ah. Well then I guess it could slide."
"I guess."
Monica sighed when neither of us said anything for a minute. "So I'll see you tomorrow, right? Or were you just testing me?"
I chuckled, "No, no. You'll definitely see me tomorrow."
"Okay." I could practically hear the grin on her face. "You haven't told me where, though."
"Um... I'll call you again tomorrow, okay?"
"Alright. Bye Zach."
"Bye."
As I pressed the red button, I couldn't help but smile to myself. That was definitely the least awkward conversation I've ever had with a girl.

So there you have it.. and before I forget, if Lorena does find out about the dare, it's going to be completely unexpected. Out of the blue. Seriously, you'd have to read that part at least twice to realize what happened. If it happens. hehe.
