Chapter 26
Zach's POV
"Alright R, see you tomorrow!" I gave Rhys a small wave as he headed toward his dorm, and stood in front of the door of my dorm, looking for my keys. I was still in a giggly mood so it was kind of hard to unlock the door... I should really stop drinking so much beer.
A full minute passed before I'd nailed the keyhole, and turned the key so it would make a clicking sound. I practically flew inside, too wasted to even see where I was going in the pitch dark.
"Zach? Zach?!" I heard Louis shout, and looked at him on my way to my bed. And that was, hands down, the biggest mistake of my life.
"Holy shit!" The sight before me literally made me turn and bump into a table, and then a bookshelf.
I should really stop drinking so much beer.
"Get the fuck out, right now!" Louis' voice echoed through the room as I tried to crawl out of it with my eyes tightly shut. By the time I got out and closed the door behind me, I'd bumped into nine fucking objects, and I could practically hear my head pounding. That's it; as of tomorrow, I am a 100% sober person. Hell yeah.
I sat on the ground and rest my head against the door behind me, trying to block the sounds coming from inside the room. I couldn't believe what I'd actually seen; I genuinely refused to believe that I'd just set my eyes on Louis with a girl that isn't Lorena, half naked in his bed.
It was bizarre; for a moment, I thought that Louis had actually started to change, because he never went after one girl for longer than two days. And I haven't seen him with anyone but Lorena for the past month and a half, maybe even two. I'd already tried telling her about the dare once, but then I thought, What if he actually likes her? If he does, surely he respects her enough to tell her the truth. It's better if she found out from him anyway.
And then, I walk in on him with a blonde bimbo lying underneath him. Way to go, Louis.
I wasn't planning on telling Lorena though; if he was already with someone else, then it probably meant that him and Lorena were done with each other. He might have already gotten her into his bed when I wasn't there, I don't know. I was pretty bummed though; out of all of Louis' skanks, I liked Lorena the best. She liked weird music and sci-fi films.
Come to think of it, why hadn't I ever made a move on her? I did have a thing for her in freshman year... Ah, wait, that's right; I never believed she'd be interested in me. Now when I see that she was interested in Louis, I regret my choice of beliefs.
I slowly stood up, and decided to get some fresh air, clear my drunken head a little. The worst thing that could happen was that I could get locked out of the building, since it was pretty close to midnight. Meh, the guards knew me, they'd let me in anyway.
I was walking down the stairs, when I suddenly heard rushed footsteps, and a person breathing heavily; I stopped immediately, trying to think of anyone that could have gone out on a Tuesday night, but no one really crossed my mind.
One thing for sure, I was definitely not expecting to see the person I saw; Lorena?!
"Lorena?" I had to make sure my mind wasn't playing tricks on me. But as soon as she started climbing the staircase I was on and came closer to me, I was sure I wasn't just imagining her there.
"Zach?" She said in a tiny voice, sounding surprisingly vulnerable. I frowned at her, my mind forming a list of reasons why she would be like that.
"Zach, is Louis awake?" She questioned, stood right in front of me. Her lower lip was trembling, and her eyes were red and shiny. She'd been crying, that's definite.
"Um..." I stuttered, not knowing what to say as images of what Louis could be possibly doing invaded my mind. I had to shake my head before speaking again.
"He, um, I don't know. I got out to get some fresh air." Here we go. Whenever I was nervous or something similar, I'd start rambling. I just hoped Lorena wouldn't see through me.
"Oh my God," She breathed out, uncrossing her arms and running her hands through her hair, as if she was panicking. "I really need to talk to him."
I narrowed my eyes at her. "Why?"
"Something..." Lorena started, but had to catch her breath. "Something happened... I really screwed things up."
I blinked, widening my eyes at her; she screwed something up? Between her and Louis? I was finding that extremely hard to believe. "Um, Lorena? Calm down." I stepped closer to her, hesitantly putting my hands on her arms. "Could you tell me what happened?"
"We... We went out to buy his sister a gift for her birthday, and... I don't know, something happened and he asked me to be his girlfriend."
"His g-girlfriend?" I asked, flabbergasted, and Lorena nodded.
I don't think my face had ever been as blank as it was in that very moment; Louis asked Lorena to be his girlfriend. As in girlfriend-girlfriend. Not a hook-up, or something. He asked her to be in an actual relationship with him.
"I'm sorry, but... What made him do that?" I was scared she'd think that I had something against her, but luckily, she only shrugged.
"I don't know, it was just so... Sudden. And he didn't even give me time to think!" She squealed and I could tell she was holding back tears.
"He didn't tell me anything about you guys," I admitted, shaking my head.
Lorena blinked at me a couple of times. "Anything?" I shook my head, waiting for some sort of an explanation. As if on cue, she cleared her throat.
"We, um... We started seeing each other a while ago, and it got kind of more serious in the past month... You know, he told me he likes me, I told him I like him," She said quickly, looking around. I, on the other hand, couldn't take my eyes off of her; was she really being serious?
"Seriously?" I said before I could stop myself, and to my surprise, Lorena nodded.
"Yeah... I think it started that day when I was at the hospital. It was the first time we talked about ourselves, you know, our families and such... That's when I noticed he was starting to change, for real." She furrowed her eyebrows all of a sudden, and shook her head. "But I didn't realize that until now," She cried out, causing me to start panicking slightly; I'd never been in a presence of a crying girl. Not my mother, my sister, anyone.
"Um..." I wanted to say something, but I really couldn't find the right words.
"Lorena, I'm sure he's not angry or anything," I said and frowned; so that's why he wanted to go to the club. That's why he had a blonde bimbo in his bed. So he could forget about Lorena. He was just as messed up as she was, he just didn't want to show it. I couldn't believe it, Louis was growing up!
"I'm pretty sure he is, though!" Lorena said and sniffled. "He's been avoiding me since yesterday, literally, he doesn't want to be anywhere near me." She looked down at her feet, and I felt like I wanted to grab a shotgun and blow his brains out for not being able to see what was in front of him the entire time. The only girl who genuinely ever cared for him, wanted him in her life, cried not because he screwed something up, but she did; he was close to losing her because of his stubborn ass.
"God, this was a stupid idea," She said, rubbing her face. "You know what, just forget it. I don't even want to see him, I'm just, I'm scared." She shook her head and turned around to leave, but I grabbed her hand and pulled her back. I was already familiar with the situation, why not help a little?
"No, listen to me," I said, my voice determined. "How about you stay here, since you're scared of seeing him, and I'll go check if he's awake. If he is, I'll call you up and if he isn't, I'll dump our dirty laundry on him. That should wake him up, and when he does wake up, I'll call you so you can talk to him. How does that sound?"
Lorena smiled at the ground, before looking up at me. "Sounds okay, but you really don't need to talk to me like I'm a five year old child." She cocked an eyebrow at me and I shrugged.
"I'm just trying to help. Alright, so stay there. Don't go anywhere." I gave her a warning look, and she smiled at me again. "Thanks Zach," She said quietly, and to my surprise, hugged me. It was rather awkward at first, but then I managed to wrap my arms around her waist and pull her closer. I knew she needed it.
"No problem, love," I mumbled into her hair and boldly kissed her temple, before we let go of each other. She gave me a nervous smile, and I gave her a reassuring nod as I sprinted up the stairs. My smile immediately disappeared when I knew she couldn't see me anymore; I was about to do the most awkward slash embarrassing thing in my life.
I took a deep breath before opening the door of our dorm, just in time to see a pair of panties being dropped on the floor. Wow, my timing had never been so perfect.
"Louis, get her out of here," I said sternly, only to have my roommate turn to me, the look in his eyes raged.
"Didn't I tell you to get the fuck out?!" He shouted at me, but I didn't care; for once in his life, he was going to do the right thing. Even if I had to drag it out of him.
"Lorena is right downstairs!" I hissed, a little angry as well. "She wants to talk to you, you worthless sack of shit!"
Louis kept staring at me, not because he was offended or anything, but because he obviously couldn't believe what I'd just told him.
"Who's Lorena?" The girl in his bed breathed out, but neither of us paid any attention to her.
"I don't care about Lorena." He shook his head at me, although I only huffed.
"Oh, go to hell with your bullshit! She told me everything!" The look on Louis' face was priceless. "Now get her out of there, or I will!" I could barely get the last few words out; the thought of having to drag a naked girl out of someone else's bed, was traumatizing.
I turned around so I wouldn't have to watch them, but caught a glimpse of Louis' face before he left my sight; he looked around, his breathing heavy, but not because of what he'd been doing until I interrupted; he was nervous. Panicked even.
"Okay, listen love," He started cautiously. "I'm going to need you to... Hide somewhere. In the bathroom! Yeah, the bathroom."
"H-Hide?" The girl said, shocked. "What is going on?!"
"Nothing, nothing!" I hurried them. "We just don't want his soon-to-be-girlfriend to see you, that's all!" I said with a sarcastic grin, and I could hear some stirring behind me. When I glanced at Louis' bed, I could see them both picking up pieces of clothing in a rush, and sighed in relief. Finally, we were going somewhere with this.
"Alright, so don't worry, you won't be in there for a long time. Just... Until we get some things clear."
"What Louis meant by that," I started as I turned around, seeing as they had most of their clothes on. "Is that you will be staying in there for as long as you have to, until he finally gets some things through his thick skull." I nodded, as the girl watched me terrified.
"Don't listen to him. He's weird," Louis muttered and practically pushed Blondie into our bathroom. I sighed again, and was surprised to see Louis still looking panicked as he turned to me.
"How am I gonna look like I didn't just have a girl in my bed?" He asked, barely over a whisper.
"Just... Pull the covers over you and talk like you've had four beers." I shrugged.
"Zach, that's not the problem," Louis said through gritted teeth and I immediately knew what he was talking about, and had to bite back a laugh.
"Just tell her you had a dirty dream, I don't know! Think of something!" I said as I walked out of our dorm, hurrying down the stairs and praying to God that Lorena was still there. Luckily, God was on my side that night.
"Hey, Lori?" I called, and she turned around, looking at me instead of the window. The look in her eyes was the most hopeful one I'd ever seen.
"Yeah?" She said nervously.
"He's awake. Come on," I said with a broad smile, and put a hand on Lorena's back, encouraging her to walk in front of me. She walked slowly, her steps hesitant, until she stopped completely in the middle of the staircase.
"Love, what's wrong?" I said quietly, and she slowly turned to face me.
"I still don't think I can do this." She sighed, and so did I.
"Okay, um... Think of me as moral support." I smiled at her, and she looked as if she was thinking about it for a few seconds.
"Does that mean I can get a hug?" Lorena raised her eyebrows at me hopefully. I laughed and, without answering her question, outstretched my arms and waited for her to wrap hers around me. She got the idea, and soon her arms were around my neck, and mine were around her waist.
"Thank you for doing this," She mumbled into my neck, and I nodded. "Don't worry about it." I smiled and pulled away. Lorena didn't look like she wanted to let go just yet, but brushed it off by crossing her arms, and looking at the ground as we headed to the dorm.
"Please God," I whispered to myself, and slowly opened the door of our dorm. Luckily, Blondie was nowhere to be seen, and Louis was in his bed, pretending to be asleep.
I cautiously walked over to him. "Lou? Lou, mate she's here," I said quietly, as if not wanting to scare him awake. Louis didn't budge for a moment, but when I started shaking him, he sighed and rolled over on his back. I couldn't believe we were putting on a show for Lorena.
"Wah?" He muttered.
"Lorena's here." I turned to the brunette next to me. "You can deal with him now. I'm gonna take a shower." I gave her an encouraging smile, before heading toward the bathroom.
I sighed as I noticed Blondie sitting on the floor, her back against the wall and her arms around her knees. I slowly walked to the shower where I turned the water on, since I was 'taking a shower', and went to sit next to Louis' hook-up.
I slid against the wall and sighed, awfully tired. I wanted the two of them to really talk everything through, but in the same time, I was craving my bed.
"Hi." I opened my eyes and looked to my left. Blondie was giving me a small smile.
"Hi," I said and looked at the shower again.
"I'm Monica," She said again, and I looked at her, ready to tell her to piss off, but her facial expression was telling me not to do that. She looked slightly scared, and the last thing I wanted to do is make her presence evident.
"Zach," I introduced myself to her. Monica grinned at me, obviously relieved by the fact that I wasn't going to do something stupid, and I smiled back at her. I wasn't sure how long we'd be staying in the bathroom, but I knew one thing; it was going to be long.

Louis' POV
"Louis?" I heard her voice again. I pretended to open my eyes with difficulty, and sat up a little.
"Hey," I said through a sigh, and ran a hand through my hair. For someone that had just woken up, my heart was beating extremely fast. "What's up, why are you here?"
"Um..." Lorena stuttered, fidgeting her hands. And even standing there like that, in an oversized tanktop and spandex shorts, her hair messy and her eyes slightly red... She was still the most beautiful girl I'd ever seen. And I wanted to throw myself off a cliff for needing fucking Zach to realize that.
A minute passed before she finally spoke again, her voice small and shaky.
"C-Could we talk?"
