STAR-SHAPED STONE

Auhg, it's Monday already!? I swear just yesterday was Friday. Now I have to do work today. That sucks...

I woke up, and thought of school. Well, at least I go in the mornings so I can do other things later. I thought to myself. I was a "Home-Schooler". So, I did all my work at home.

I got up, got some breakfast my dad was making (but he wasn't finished with the bacon, which made me a little disappointed), and headed outside.

"Well, good morning sleepy-head." My mom greets me in the mornings, just before "class".
"Hi, mom." I looked in her direction, and she was cleaning some dishes.

I was wondering why she was doing it outside...
My gaze turns to an owl, up in a tree. Dark brown feathers, and big, yellow eyes. I looked around my surroundings.

We lived in the woods, where thin trees stood tall, and leaves always on the ground. We only had a couple of neighbors. Like, two.

One of them is my best-friend. Owen. We always cause trouble, and chaos. But we always end-up laughing our butts off.

The morning air was cold, but fresh. The stench of bacon my dad was cooking reached my nostrils, and I couldn't wait for it to be finished!

"Hey, Drake!" I see Owen running towards me. "O-Owen!? But, you can't come here in the morning. I have 'school'!" He knows this! He's known this for ten years! I mean, that is how long we've known each other.

"I know, but I won't be here for your thirteenth birthday, tomorrow. And I'll be packing all day today! remember? I told you I was going to the village, to spend time with my dad." Owen had separated parents, so after two weeks, he goes to his dad's for a week on Tuesdays.

"Oh, right. What do you need?" I ask curiously. "Here," He hands me a small, star-shaped rock. "My mom told me that once someone found a rock like this, and they had good luck most of their life. But, he was never found after years later. But, they say he ran away with the stone, for riches, and drowned in a river."

He paused.

"And, I thought I'd give it to you." I looked at it. It shined bright in the sunlight that shown above me.
"Um, Owen? Is that ALL of the story?" I asked.

"Well, yeah."
"Owen, every story has a lie, and a truth."
"What are you trying to say?"
"I'm saying that, this stone probably does nothing, and that the guy had good luck because that's how his life turned out. And maybe he did drown in a river."

He starred at me. "Well, yeah..."
"I'm going to keep this. Just... Don't believe everything. Okay?" He nodded, and left saying the words, "Happy early birthday, Drake."

I looked down at the stone. Thanks, Owen. That night, the stone glowed in the moonlight, coming from my window. I felt something..

Something bad. Like that stone was some kind of evil. But I ignored it, and slept.
