The face from a thousand years ago is your own. ALYHNA REYNTIER CORVAX emerges from beyond the limitless horizon into countless futures that cannot let go of her, but are desperate to leave her in the shadows of the past. She is the ghost of grand and gilded haunts, tethered to a legacy of riches that has lost its value; the corporeal goddess of an abandoned religion who has overstayed her welcome to walk upon the earth. The Force's immunity to the heartrending machinations of time lines her bloodstream and ignites her cells. Frighteningly powerful she seems and yet powerless she is. She is nothing more than a wraith with moonbeam fingers grasping in vain at the heart of the sun — the giver of mortal life. She cannot escape the fate given to her by the Force. An immortal purpose wiser than the number of her years. A destiny intertwined with reality and written in the very air she breathes. A girl hell-bent on a path toward omnipotence that no one else has been given the chance to seek. But she did not choose it nor knew what it meant. Ever since she opened her eyes to behold the unfathomable sky at the dawn of time, adorned with stars that didn't yet know their names, the Force has made her every choice for her.

          (The Chosen One, the Jedi Council says. Yet her midi-chlorian count has never surpassed the Grand Master's; there is mortality in her somewhere. Weakness. I am Chosen, a voice from an ancient mouth whispers, but not for this.)

ANAKIN SKYWALKER is another one of the Force's twisted anomalies. A spear in the side of chaos and the answer to untold questions. He is a son of sand dunes and bright stars. Only a true savior would spring from the eternally lit furnaces of hope and light. He is not a cold star nor is he born of snow-capped mountains and frigid isolation. His decisions are guided by the abundance of love in his veins. It was never that way for Alyhna Corvax. Since the inception of the Jedi Order she has walked by faith. The perfect Jedi. The Force's unwavering hands — to deny her virtue would be to deny everything she has forged for the Order. To act on human nature, to risk love, would shatter thousands of years of an unchallenged institution. A dynasty standing on the edge of one woman's knife, the one who was meant to rise the highest and fall the hardest.

          (It is why Mace Windu chose her as his apprentice. Her loyalty to the Jedi Order surpasses her strength, he says. If she is to eventually lead the Jedi, I must train her. She was Chosen for this. She does not argue. She bites her tongue hard enough for it to bleed. This is her duty. She lives because the Jedi Order lives.)

ALYHNA CORVAX has one saving grace. The end of the Jedi Order draws near. Reincarnation has granted her this one gift: foresight. Everything must follow a pattern of creation and cessation. Beginning and end. She recognizes it so easily because it is not her. She is patternless and primordial, misaligned with the ever-changing world she desperately wants to feel a part of — she is as volatile as a nascent cosmos taking its first breath. Her flesh is hyaline and soaked with the tears of her transcending grief, her heart is star-bound and weightless — it demands to escape her tissues and bones. Perhaps she will disappear with the shifting wind and the falling stars, the turning tides and the eve of the long night. It is said that she would end with the Jedi Order. The Force would persist as it always had, indifferent to her weariness and faltering feet, but it would not pardon her without a fight.

Face the dragon. Fight the fire. Rise from the ashes. (Rebirth, rebirth, rebirth.) This time, however, the flames of damnation have caught up to her in the form of Anakin Skywalker, the only person with the power to oppose her. The Force has severed Alyhna Reyntier Corvax. Her time is at an end. She will leave the shores of her timeless journey into the crushing sea. The galaxy's blessing is in part a humiliation — she is being left to die. Her defeat would be the galaxy's too.

          (They will destroy the universe together. The Jedi and the Sith. He seeks to cut off the head of the snake, to end the cycle of persevering power from the Force's first song. The heaven-sent burst of divine flame from a millennia ago that should have been disintegrated into ash and dust and riddled across the bleeding stars. Both of them could not live at the end. He would make sure of it.)

HELLO AND WELCOME TO DRAGONSLAYER!

i. the synopsis was a pain in the ass to write 😭 i don't hate it but i don't think there's anything i could do to make it better so at least it won't get worse 🫠. anyways this plot came to me randomly (after listening to an unreleased lana del rey song believe it or not) so this fic is very impulsive for me, especially considering i've been working on moonchild for 4 years 🙌.

          ii. yes, there will be some canon divergence since i'll be picking and choosing stuff from legends. in terms of alyhna, she is not overpowered. she's powerful, but i will be explaining throughout this fic that being reincarnated has not strengthened her but weakened her. if you are knowledgeable with j.r.r. tolkien's legendarium, you will see that i was inspired by some of his creations for this fic, especially the ainur. there are also references to avatar: the last airbender and the legend of korra especially in terms of the avatar cycle. there will be a lot but all you basically need to know for now is that the jedi council will be divided over who's the chosen one, which will cause a lil rivals-to-friends-to-lovers moment for aly and ani 🤭.

iii. alyhna corvax is basically the new and improved version of an oc you never got to meet — alina kilaeon. she's also inspired by some characters you might know, including some of my favorite of j.r.r. tolkien's women: lúthien tinúviel, elwing, galadriel, and éowyn. she's also a mishmash of leigh bardugo's alina starkov and zoya nazyalensky. some other characters that inspired alyhna include: kyoshi & korra from the avatar: the last airbender franchise, halbrand ╱ annatar ╱ sauron from amazon's the rings of power, and lady jessica from frank herbert's dune. however, i did put a lot of effort into making sure that alyhna was her own character, i just like connecting her to some of my favorite characters in little ways ♡.

          iv. anakin and alyhna are very inspired by tolkien's beren & lúthien, the rings of power's sauron & galadriel, bardugo's matthias & nina ╱ nikolai & zoya, and austen's fitzwilliam darcy & elizabeth bennet.

v. lastly, her surname corvax is important so keep an eye out for that!!! that's your last hint because there's so much i want to reveal right now but this is long enough already so instead i'll say thank you for so much for reading 💗.
