Chapter 1

Sky groaned and stood up. She had previously been jolted awake by the loud school bell. Her teacher, Mr. Sol, announced the homework as his ninth grade class rushed out the door.
Sky hauled her bag onto her shoulder and trudged her way over to the door. Because it was the Friday before Christmas eve, the decorations suddenly seemed new and exciting.
"Sky, wait." Sky jumped and spun around as a voice sounded behind her. "Yes?" Mr. Sol handed her a small box wrapped in brightly colored wrapping paper. "Merry Christmas!" With that he spun around to talk to another student.
Surprised that her teacher had noticed her, the quiet, boring student that sat in the back of the room as opposed to the popular children whom he seemed to know so well.
She shrugged it off and slowly made her way home in the deep snow. Sometimes, she thought, I wish I could fly.
Sky paused when she saw a familiar green car parked outside in the driveway. No way. Sky raced inside and there stood her mother, wearing her dress uniform, her face as cold as ice.
    And Sky woke up.
BEEP. BEEP. BEEP. BEEP. Sky's least favorite sound woke her from her nightmare, and for once, she was grateful for the loud noise.
Sky hopped up and pulled on a baggy Harley Davidson shirt and her favorite pair of jeans. She tied on her necklace and went to the bathroom to brush her teeth.
When she was done getting ready, Sky took care of her two dogs and ate breakfast. She kissed them goodbye, hugged her father, and lugged her heavy backpack with her to school through the deep snow.

Walking through the double doors of her huge high school, Sky received a blast of warmth from the heaters above. "Hey Sky!" Called her best friend, Sunny. "Happy birthday!"  Sky grinned "Thanks!" She raced over and have Sunny a hug.
"Here. Have this." A small box wrapped in red and green was pressed into her hand. "I got you a birthday present." When Sky just thanked her and started to put the box in her backpack, Sunny protested and told her to open it.
Sky shrugged and carefully peeled off the tape and unfolded the wrapping paper. She ops es the box to find a sparkling bracelet, seashells hanging from it and a shimmering,  sea green stone resting in the center.
"Awwwww Sun, it's so pretty!" Sky said in awe. "I knew you would love it!" She replied happily. "Put it on!" Sunny urged. Sky slipped on the beautiful peice of jewelry and gazed at her wrist adoringly. "I love it! I'll wear it every day!" She decided out loud.
The bell rang loudly, interrupting whatever   Sunny was about to say. Sky gave her another hug. "Thank you so much! See you after school!"
The two girls both ran to their classes, trying to avoid getting run over by the seniors.
Sky Sat down in her seat and pulled out her supplies, feeling suddenly dizzy. She sighed. Another headache. It was her fifteenth birthday, and she was already starting to hate it.
