Chapter 6: This is why we don't go to weird things, this is why we WAIT! (Peter)
Previously:
While patrolling around Queens and New York, it begins to storm. Badly. It doesn't deter Peter from patrolling, however, which is convenient because just as he's by Central Park an odd shape falls from lightning. Two odd shapes to be specific.
Now: (Peter's POV)
"Kid? What's going on?" Mr Stark's voice rings through as I move towards the rapidly falling shape. Its falling so fast towards the ground, uncontrollably. I have to do something!
"Kid? Answer me, what's happening? I'm on my way, two minutes out!" Mr Stark calls again through the intercom just as I swing forward and shoot a web under the falling shapes like a net. I know it's not much. It may not even slow the descent, but there's not much else I can do.
"Holy crap I-it's like that really really old movie, True lies, mr Stark!" I exclaim frantically, watching the shape slam down into the webbing. May used to watch it all the time.
"What are you talking about?"
"Like, when that guy falls out of the sky! E-except its like they fell out of lightning, mr Stark! And I don't know what it actually was, it's way too big to be a man but I thought I saw a shape come out of the blob before it went back in!" I ramble, running up to the netting.
"Wai-What?! You're telling me something fell out of nowhere?!"
"Yeah, it's darker than my soul!"
"Out of the sky?!"
"It's crazy, Mr Stark. I need to go see what it is and if it's ok! I tried to use my webs but I don't know if I was quick enough because it's kinda dark and-"
"NO, Kid! Stay. There. Stay put. I'm a minute out." He tells me, stern and loud. "Just wait, we don't know what it is and if it's dangerous."
"Karen, can you tell what it is?" I ask, definitely not staying put. I'm a few meters away now, it's still raining but the constant thunder seems to be easing. There's no people around, which is good.
"My senses are unable to identify the shape as it is foreign. I strongly suggest staying back and waiting for back up."
"Oh. Yeah. Totally," I respond, walking closer.
"Kid you better stay back." Mr Stark exclaims loudly. "Don't make me take your suit away." Yeah, cause we know how well that worked out last time.
"I'm-I'm definitely not going near the weird thing, don't worry!" I straight up lie as I walk right up to the web-net, which rests at my eye level. It's curled up around the edges like a cocoon, so I grab the edge and peel it back carefully.
"Peter Benjamin Parker." Oh. Full name. Yikes.
I ignore Mr Stark as I peer over at the dark mess. I squint, making out the shape moving which tells me it's alive, or working. Depending on what it actually is. Tilting my head I try to see what it is, some kind of machine maybe? That idea goes out the window when I see black, shiny scales.
"Whoa," I mutter, wide eyed. This is a creature. The next thing I know my Spidey senses blares and I jump back, just in time for the creature to spring up. I catch a glimpse of piercing green eyes and sharp teeth. It growls loudly, which has my ears ring. Holy crap.
"Whoa!" I exclaim, feeling my heart beating rapidly as I scramble back and get into a defensive position. Not a second later, I hear the familiar whirl of thrusters and look over to see Mr Stark land behind me.
"See this is why we wait before we approach the weird things without back up!" He says to me like I'm four, except he's nearly yelling. He steps past me to look at the creature-which has not calmed down. I watch as Mr Stark raises a repulsor and points it at the creature defensively.
"Karen what is that thing?" I whisper as I walk up to Mr Stark's side and eye the creature which has not backed down but hasn't moved to attack, either.
"My hypothesis is some kind of alien." She responds. The creature shifts and menacingly flares... are those wings?!
"Holy crap, that thing has wings Mr Stark!" I exclaim, my mind racing to connect the dots. "Wholy crap! I'm thinking this is a dragon, Mr Stark. Think about it, scales, wings, growling! Sharp teeth!" Mr Stark shushes me, listening to something Friday is saying.
"Two hearts." He mutters, sounding surprised. By now, the rain his died down completely. All that's left as reminders are the dark clouds above and dampness on the ground. This is the weirdest storm I have ever seen.
"What?" I ask, confused.
"Friday's picking up two heart beats. Different pattens. Is it pregnant?" Mr Stark hypothesises, turning his head towards me and retracting his helmet.
"Or is it just really strong?" I suggest. "Like those old legends of creatures having two or three hearts? Could dragons have more than one heart?"
A small movement catches my attention, and I look back over at the creature to see it shift slightly, revealing something pressed against its stomach. My eyes widen. That, is a person. They're not moving. Oh my god. "That's a person, mr Stark!" I exclaim, pointing. The creature gets defensive at this action and growls loudly before shifting to hide them again, "they're not moving. We-we need to help them!" I add, inching forward. Mr Stark puts an arm in front of me, stopping me.
"No, you need to stay back. We don't know what we're dealing with here!" He insists.
"But-"
"I don't wanna hear it!" He snaps. I sigh, but obey. I look back over at the creature. It hasn't backed down or moved.
***
A few minutes have passed. Mr stark put the park on lockdown, we don't want any civilians stumbling in. He's called for back up, which is good because people are starting to gather at the edges of the park. I'm trying to keep them back while mr Stark keeps an eye on the creature. Luckily there's some trees that seem to be blocking the public's view for now. But if more of them show up...
"Guys," I urge them, "you need to stay back! It's dangerous here."
"Spider-man what's going on?"
"There are reports of an unidentified object falling down. What is it?"
"What are we facing?"
"What is all this?"
"Guys, please!" I snap, holding my arms out towards them. "You need to listen to me! Go on, go home, go to safety! This-this is all I can say!" I'm getting nervous. There's no way I can hold back all these people at once without accidentally hurting them. When is our back up going to get here? I walk a few meters away, eying the crowd as if daring them to try.
"Mr Stark, when will the back up be here?" I hiss, speaking in coms. "I can't hold these people back for long. They don't seem to want to listen."
"Soon, kid. Hang in there."
"Any progress with the creature?"
"Nope. Friday says it's not in any database."
I see someone try to step forward, a camera on their shoulder, I turn and glare at them. "Seriously. Don't make me web you." I snap, pointing my wrist at them. I've reached zero patience. The person stays where they are.
Engines sound at the end of the street, I glance over to see a bunch of vehicles pulling up. "Is that our back up?" I ask.
"Yeah, I had to call S.H.I.E.L.D in," Mr stark responds, not sounding happy about it.
The sirens on their mysterious black vehicles seem to push the now nervous crowd back a bit and they're able to drive in a few cars to act as a barricade. Several people spill out from the cars, some armed and some not. They start barking orders to set up a permitter and for the crowd not to come any closer. They also draw up large white sheets, blocking the public from looking in. Seeing they have it handled, I head back to Mr Stark, finding him in the same spot next to the creature- which is still glaring at him.
"Okay, so what-what do we do now?" I ask.
"We let Pepper know we'll be late to dinner." Mr Stark responds.
And boom, there we go. It's not long, I know. It was originally longer but I've had to do some reshuffling in order to fit better into my story outline. Stay alert for the next update!
