Chapter 41: Yay More Fighting, Just What We Need (Hiccup)

Previously:

Hiccup and Toothless rescue Kate from falling and fly around with her for a bit, before dropping her off and continuing the battle. Across the city, Tuffnut and Ruffnut snuck through a building.

Now:

Toothless barrel rolls, avoiding a heap of falling rubble, and then tucks his wings, taking us into a dive and picking off a few robots with a plasma blast. We sweep away from the explosion of flames and I cheer, but it's short lived when I hear Tony yell through the ear device.

"UNDEROOS!"

I grab the saddle bars and twist us to the right, avoiding a robot which crashes to the ground from our direction change, and turn my head looking for Tony. What's got him so worried?

I get my answer when I spot him practically falling next to Spider-Man, who's laying on the ground unmoving. Oh no.

"Spider-Man is hit!" Captain America's voice proclaims over the coms, sounding worried.
"What?!" Natasha yells.
"What happened?! Bullet? Fire?" Bucky asks.
"How bad is it?" comes from Wanda. "Is he... is he dead?"
"Starks with him, enemies are closing in. I'm on my way."  Captain America responds.
I slip off my helmet and speak into the coms. "So are we, we'll cover from above." I then slip my helmet back on and nod at Toothless, who speeds through the air until we reach them. Now Tony is pressing his hand to Spider-Man's chest, and I see his body jolting.

"Oh my gods," I mutter. "What's happening to him?!"

Toothless growls lowly, not happy either. I see Spider-Man's body jolt again, Steve is not far now.

A sudden change in direction has me refocusing just in time for Toothless to tackle a flying robot out of the sky. The world spins and I hold on tight to the saddle, trusting Toothless to know which way is up. He stops short and sends the robot flying into a building so hard the building shakes. We turn away when the robot hits the ground and doesn't move.

We get back above Tony to see Steve fending off aliens and robots with his shield, doing his best to keep them away from Spider-Man.

"His hearts stopped, Tony is trying to restart it." Steve announces over the coms. "How is the battle looking for everyone else?"
Heart STOPPED?!
The colour drains from my face as my thoughts turn to my father. Spider-Man is dead.

Toothless growls, ears pricking and vibrating as if listening to something I can't pick up on. I look around, alert. "What is it? Bud?"

He looks around, but looks up at me, his eyes telling me he doesn't know. "Stay alert." I tell him. He sends a plasma blast down to the ground, which blows up a hoard of aliens heading towards Tony and Spider-Man. We continue to circle in the sky, ensuring that no aerial attacks will occur. About a minute passes, each passing second weighing more and more as Spider-Man remains unmoving. We work hard on keeping the air space free, if not for us then for the quinjet— which someone is trying to call in.

"It's disengaged, sometimes wrong with its communication system."
"Can you by-pass it, Rhodey?" Clint asks.
"I'm trying." 'Rhodey' responds. "I'm trying to get in contact with—"
"What is it?" A man asks, I think it's the Dr Strange guy.
"It's Spider-man, he's down. Stark's trying to bring him back." Natasha responds.
"What?!" Dr strange shouts. "Down—down how?"
"Down as in his heart has stopped." Rhodey sounds frustrated. "I'm trying to release the quinjet. Can you try from your end?"
"I'll, uh, I'll try."
Dr Strange doesn't seem like the kind of person who would let himself get worked up, but he's certainly not hiding his worry now.

Finally, movement below catches my eye and I look down to see Spider-man clinging to Tony, body shaking as he tries to catch his breath. Tony is holding him just as tight, perhaps for support or perhaps to reassure himself. I can see a tussle of brown hair on Spider-Man, but that's all I can make out from this height. Well at least he has hair.

They stay like that for a good thirty seconds, embracing as Spider-man recovers. I pull my helmet off and press a finger to the coms. "Spider-man is up!" I inform everyone, excited.

"Is Spider-man hurt? What's his status?" Yelena asks.
"What even happened?" Kate asks. I direct Toothless to land and we touch down just as Spider-man turns towards Captain America.

"I think... I think I just met who was behind this." Spider-man exhales.

He goes to stand up, but Tony firmly holds him down.

"Guys, you've got a large group of robots incoming." Kate tells us over the coms. I look around, spotting the group. There's about fifty of them. Toothless growls, positioning us so we're in between the robots and Spider-man. Captain America steps next to us to and I nod at him, pulling out and engaging inferno.

"We'll draw them away," the Captain says. He takes off running towards the fast approaching robots.

Toothless spreads his wings and I click open the tail as he jumps into the air and we take flight. We make a beeline towards the robots, picking up speed quickly and targeting the flying ones of the group. On the ground the Captain is running fast, very fast for a human, so I know he won't be far behind us.

Within a second we make contact with the robots, slamming into one midair. Toothless digs his claws into the metal and shrieks in the robots face, tearing at it fiercely and managing to pull its spike thing out. I pull my shield to the ready, blocking another robots spike and hitting it as hard as I can until it backs off us. Toothless drops the robot and tackles another, this time I reach down with my sword and stab the robot anywhere I can. The sword comes back dripping in the goo, but it doesn't seem to stop the fire. A few minutes pass as we continue to fight the flying robots, having to perform tight turns and quick manoeuvres to avoid their spikes and projectile modes of fire (bullets) as we slowly but surely pick them off. Toothless shoves the last flying one and flings it to the ground with a whip of his tail, sending it hurling into one of the robots on the ground. Steve is fighting on the ground, the robots now joined by aliens.

"They're amassing!" Clint yells, sounding like he's running. "It was kind of random before, they attacked anything and everything but now they're all heading in the one direction!"
"Right towards you, Stark." Thor adds. I see lightning flash down in the distance. Sure enough, I can see all the robots and aliens heading towards us.
"I'm still with the kid." Tony interjects, irritated.
"I'm—I'm not a kid!" Spider man says, voice still weak. "I'm... an adult."
"We're running out of options." Tony continues, ignoring Spider-man's feeble attempt at denying his age.

Toothless fires a plasma blast onto the battlefield, which blows apart about a dozen robots. But more fill their spots.

"Well at least they're grouping together." Steve remarks, slinging his shield around so it ricochets off anything close to him.

Lightning cracks overhead as Thor flys through the sky, yelling a battle cry as he approaches the enemy below.

"Let's hitch a ride, bud!"  I yell over the wind. Toothless flips over into a dive, effortlessly tucking his wings and making us streamlined as he summons lightning from the dark clouds around us, thanks to Thor.

Thor strikes down onto the earth below, about five or six strands of lightning bolts coming off his body and electrocuting dozens of robots and aliens. We then approach, the whistle building up in the sky around us as we cut through the air. Toothless fires an electrically charged plasma blast, which strikes down on the enemy. We speed through the fire that rises up because of the explosion, and I cheer enthusiastically.

"Good job, bud!" I exclaim. I then point out a flying robot approaching us from below, but before either of us can take action it explodes and drops down to the ground, a different shape jumping across to another robot flying towards us. I steer Toothless in a loop, lining us up for the robot, but it drops out of the sky like the last one. This time I get a clear view of the shape as it throws itself up through the air and latches onto a third flying robot.

"Dagur?!" I yell, watching him stab the robot with a gleeful laugh and jump onto yet another robot, barely avoiding the fire. Toothless tucks his wing in and we roll over to avoid flying debris, but when we level back out Dagur is jumping towards a lone higher flying robot.

"What's he thinking?" I exclaim. There's nowhere else for him to go. Toothless looks at me and rolls his eyes and I nod. "Yeah, I know, I know, he doesn't."

Dagur drives his sword hard into the robot and I watch as it sparks, jolting in the air before bursting into flames. Dagur let's go, and I can hear his laughter from over where we are.

"Right, bud." I tap Toothless' head. It's all the cue he needs as he flies through the air after Dagur as fast as he can. We catch up quickly and Toothless grabs Dagur by the arm, dragging him away from what was his impending doom before setting him on the ground by an upturned chunk of road and landing next to him. Dagur steadies himself on his feet, looking around with bloodlust and crazy in his eyes, itching to continue the battle.

"Dagur are you serious?!" I shout, raising my visor as I glare at him. "We are in the middle of a battle."

"Uh, yeah." He looks at me as if I'm dumb. "So if we can get back to it that would be great."

"Look, it's all well and good that you want to help but you can not go pulling stunts like that!" I scold him. "You don't have a dragon to save you here! You'd be dead if Toothless and I didn't catch you."

"Are you... scolding me right now?" He looks at me in stunned disbelief and probably a bit of anger.

An alien runs into view and Toothless swats it away with his wing. Dagur then hurls his sword at the alien, piercing it dead.

"No, I'll leave that for Mala. She'll scold you enough for the both of us, and she'll scold me too if you didn't get back in one piece."

Dagur shakes his head. "We have bigger problems to worry about!"

"Oh, yeah I'm sure your tribes will be delighted to not have you return." I raise my shield to block a robot's spike blow, then Toothless tears the robot apart.

"That's not what I meant, Hiccup!" He shouts at me. "I'm saying that I've had more important things on my mind lately, before this battle."

I shake my head in disbelief, "like what? What could possibly be more concerning for you?"

"Everyone has had bigger things to worry about," He responds, quieter. When I give a confused look he sighs in frustration and continues. "It's been YEARS, Hiccup. The land is in turmoil."

I gape at him, "What do you mean years?"

"I mean years, YEARS. I have sailed every inch of the sea, flown every sky and climbed every mountain in search for you. We all have combed every archipelago in search for you."

"It's not been three days, Hiccup. It's been five years since you two disappeared without a trace."

AND THERE WE GO HAHAHAHAHA DRAMA

Also I cracked my iPad screen which is what I write on so rip (it's fine and doesn't affect me writing at all, I'm just dramatic)

Sorry for any mistakes I'm too lazy to proof read.

See you next chapter with Peter!
