Chapter 36: Zappy Zappy whAT THE FUCKY (Peter)

Am I proud of the title? Absolutely. Will I take constructive criticism? Nope.

Previously:

Peter hitched a ride with Toothless and Hiccup to pick up some more web fluid, got chatting with Loki on the battlefield, and started to get a little more optimistic because it seems that they're all finally starting to get the upper hand.

Refer to the last chapter for Hiccup's recollection of the recent events

Now:

I happened to be nearby, not far from Steve, when Thor summoned his lightning. I happened to be watching the sky when Toothless and Hiccup got hit, and happened to be watching when they launched forward to evaporate into thin air.

As you can imagine, we're all pretty horrified to see them... toast. Yes I'm making puns at a time like this. I let go of my web and land next to Steve. He looks as confused as me. Dr. Strange, Sam, Bucky and Natasha are also close by. "What just happened?!" I shout, horrified.

"Thor What did you do?!"  Dr Strange snaps.
"What the hell just happened?!" Sam exclaims.
"Tell me we all saw that!" Rhodey adds.

All I can do is stare up at the sky, wide eyed, as I try to come to terms with what I just saw. All of this fighting and they were gone... just like that.

"I don't know!" Thor exclaims, rattled— and rightly so. "I don't understand!" I look over at him, he really does look troubled. A metallic clunk sounds, and a group of robots rushes towards him. He turns and fires a lightning blast, probably without even thinking about it.

In that moment, a crackling sound comes from the sky, and I look up to see a few bolts of Lightning emerge out of nowhere, quickly taking shape to illuminate a figure. Toothless glides though the air about a hundred meters away from where they were before, suddenly visible, with Hiccup still sat in the saddle. They both look fine, with the exception of lightning running over them. I exhale, so confused but so happy they're alive.

Toothless directs his sight to a hoard of aliens and roars, moving into a dive bomb with the lightning still rushing over their bodies. He opens his mouth to fire a blast, and it hits the target along with a blast of lightning, leaving them quite literally a burning pile of ash— much like most of Thor's enemies have been.

"Wow, Thor, what do we even need you for?" Mr Stark jokes in coms.

Hiccup whoops loudly, cheering as they swing around and head towards us, the lightning completely gone from their bodies as far as I can tell.

"That was really cool!" I exclaim, watching them land next to us all with a thud. "It was amazing, Mr Hiccup. Oh my god!" Ned is going to have a field day when we talk about this!

"I told you he was the unholy offspring of lightning and death!" Hiccup laughs proudly and pulls his helmet visor up— and seems to notice that Thor is very much traumatised.

"Oh! Uh...Sorry for the scare, Thor, sir. He can channel lightning, as you can see." He adds sheepishly, rubbing his neck awkwardly. Looking closely, I notice the blue glow that Toothless has from head to tail has tiny lightning bolts running through it, which makes me think not all the lightning is gone.

"Ahh, it's fine," Thor exhales with a panicked smile, probably happy he didn't accidentally disintegrate them. (Thor right now: 😀🥲)

"You disappeared!" I exclaim, half excited and half shocked still. "How?!" It's not like Thor disappears when he uses lightning.

"It's his scales," Hiccup explains, gesturing to the shiny black scales Toothless is donned in. "The lightning can be drawn to it, and acts as a cloaking mechanism. The Light Fury, we thinks she's a sub species, can cloak herself too but not with lightning."

"That's so cool!"

"Well, as enlightening as this has been... shall we get back to it orrr...?" Mr Stark asks, hovering close by.

"Right, of course." Thor chuckles awkwardly. "I knew all along, by the way, I just... went along." He points at Hiccup.

"Oh sure you did!" Hiccup retorts with a laugh, flipping his helmet back down. He draws his fire sword, looking at us all expectantly. We all respond by readying ourself, before all at once we charge forward into the battle dramatically.

I latch onto the first robot I see, wrapping my legs around it and jamming my elbows down hard until I get to it's goo-covered wires and rip at them. Next to me Steve slices right through an alien with his shield, while on my other side Thor demolishes a string of enemies with lightning. Mr Stark and Sam attack from above, soon joined by Mr. Rhodes and Toothless.

As I jump from the now down robot to an alien with red spiky horns, I catch a glimpse of Bucky, Natasha and Wanda fighting not too far away as well. I guess we're all starting to group together now that the numbers are only in the hundred thousands or so.

Quickly taking down the alien, My spider sense goes off and I have to duck to avoid a flying robot— well, half a robot. "My bad," Sam apologises in coms, flying overhead and dropping the other half of the robot further away. Sometimes I wonder if he's still mad about the time I pinned him down with my webs at the airport battle.

"You need to work on your aim, Sam," Clint teases in coms. I web up a robot to a street sign, flipping over a burst of bullets and punching another robot in its face.

"You think you got something over me, old man?" Sam snaps back. "Yeah, that's right! I see you huffing and puffing all over the place." He jokes. "No wonder you stay in one place."

"Wouldn't it be a shame if someone's arrows were to... accidentally take down RedWing." Clint claps back. I finish with the robot I'm fighting and target a group of four, firing taser webs and short-circuiting them quickly.

"Yeah! Like it just.. got in the way!" Bucky adds, the shit eating grin evident in his voice. I see him firing a round of bullets into an alien only a few meters away.

"You stay out of this!" Sam exclaims. "I thought you were on my team!"
"I thought we were all on the same team." Rhodey interrupts, which is enough to get them to stop teasing each other for a few minutes as we continue to fight.

I'm not far from Mr Stark now, though Cap isn't that far away as well. "Hey Mr Stark, how's it going?!" I call out loud as I throw hit after hit onto an alien and kick a robot through the air. "Do you think mr Fury will still try to make us go on that mission he was talking about?" More aliens start closing in, so I have to listen to my spider sense more and more to avoid getting overwhelmed.

"Kid, kinda in the middle of something aren't we?" Comes his response.

"Well yeah I know that sir!" I call, moving my body as fast as possible to dodge one of the aliens' swinging horns. "It's just... this battle won't last that long, surely."

"That's not what I meant."

Oblivious, I continue to ramble as I fight. "With all of us, I'm thinking we should be able to end it soon! I doubt it'll last for days. But we'll probably be really tired anyway so it wouldn't be fair to—"

My spider sense goes off but I move too slow, and there's a pressure on my back from an alien. Before i can react, I hear Mr Stark's repulsors charge then feel the heat of the blast go over me—knocking the alien away.

"Get your head in the game, Kid!" He scolds me, "there's a time and a place for chatter."

"Sorry Mr Stark!" I chime, bouncing off to take down a robot. "I just don't wanna go on that mission." I chuckle slightly. Things don't end well when I leave the country.

Movement catches my eye as I move on to a different robot, and I glance over to see Hiccup run into eyeshot. He's holding his shield and his fire sword, but Toothless isn't far behind him. I watch him block an array of bullets with his shield, before sliding down across the ground and kicking an alien across the face with his prosthetic foot, following through with a strike from the sword. While on the ground, he reaches down for something, which I realise is an arrow (probably from Kate or Clint), and stows his sword.

I finish taking down my robot and pick a new alien, swiftly taking it down with a few well placed kicks and punches. I then ram a robot into its horns, cheering in satisfaction when it pierces the robot. "Why haven't I thought of that?" Steve comments lightheartedly as he jogs past. I chuckle, flipping over to attack an alien.

I look back over to Hiccup, seeing him block another round of bullets with his shield, before holding the shield aloft and pressing something on its back. In a second, it transforms into a crossbow. Hiccup nocks the arrow from earlier and fires it at an alien, I watch it sail through the air and stick into a robots 'neck'. The robot stumbles, its bullets faltering; meaning the arrow must have hit something important.

"Wow cap! Your shields looking a little rusty!" Mr Stark teases over coms. I spot him overhead wrestling with a robot.

Steve doesn't stop fighting, swinging his shield around the battlefield like always. "Oh?" He pauses, breathing slightly heavily. The shield takes out like six robots in a row. "I don't think it's so bad." He catches it almost smugly, returning it to his arm.

"Yeah, yeah. But it can't shoot arrows." Mr Stark responds, before flying overhead and continuing to take out the enemy with his repulsors. He also fires a few mini rockets, which precisely take out a handful of robots.

"Watch your back Yelena, that bridge looks unstable." There's a different voice on coms, and I tilt my head in confusion. I continue fighting off a group of aliens until they're finished, then pick out a flying robot to attack as the voice continues. "To the left there, bud." After a second I realise it's Hiccup. I wonder where he got the coms from?

It's a good idea that he has a com, in case he needs to call for help. Not that he's a terrible fighter, of course: he's able to hold his own to a certain degree, but he's not built for hand to hand. The guy has all kinds of tricks up his sleeves, as evident by the transforming shield and the small explosive gas his sword can emit.

My spider sense goes off and I duck to avoid a robot that has been heading towards me, it's spike out and ready to stab. I fire a web and pull the robot down to the ground. It crashes at my feet harshly and I rip it's spike out. The goo sprays everywhere, but I don't let it deter me from finishing off the robot.

An alien runs past me, chasing a frightened police man. I quickly shoot a web at the alien as it goes to pounce on the guy, but I miss. As I'm about to fire again, the alien glows a familiar red and floats up into the air as it thrashes as if being strangled, revealing Wanda standing not far away. I wave at her in thanks and she gives me a sweet smile probably too bright for someone actively strangling an alien. I hurry to escort the police officer to safety because this is not in his job description.

I stick around Wanda for a few minutes as we find ourselves teeming up. For instance, I fire a web at a robot and yank it close, to which she slams a car into it with her powers. I cheer, praising our teamwork. She then floats the car in front of me, giving me something to swing off in my quest to reach a flying robot a little ways away. I latch onto the robot and rip out its flying stuff, before finishing it off as we fall to the ground.

Just as I'm about to hit the ground I find myself jolt to a stop and glow a faint red. Wanda levitates me back to the ground safely, and I gesture to a group of aliens a few meters away. She raise her hands and they pulse violently with red glow before exploding. "That was incredible!" I exclaim, first pumping the air before taking down another robot.

"Thanks Spider-Man," she smiles sheepishly, slightly out of breath. "I've been practising." She's so badass, holy crap.

I hang around her for a few more minutes, though as we fight we drift apart slowly.

"Karen, how many enemies are left?" I ask, leaping up to slam a metal pole into an alien until it stills.

"I'm unable to get an exact read on the numbers, but they are shrinking at a steady rate and will continue to do so if you keep pushing." Karen responds. "Would you like me to activate instant kill?"

I take a second to think of a response, hesitating. I'm fine with taking down the robots, they're not exactly living creatures as far as I can tell. But the aliens are a little different... I prefer to immobilise them, I don't like killing them. I look over at Wanda, just I'm time to see her rip apart an alien effortlessly with her powers. They're living creatures, so the word "kill" feels...sensitive. I know they're bad, though, so I try to tell myself it's different. And it's not the first time I'm fought aliens, anyway.

"Yeah... ok." I finally respond to Karen. It's not the first time I've used instant kill, after all. I definitely used it in space.

"Activating instant kill." Karen confirms. I spring off back into battle, taking down more aliens and robots. The webs I use are stronger and more violent, the voltages turned up on the taser webs.

Commotion goes off in the coms, more talking than usual-  and more frantic. I pay attention, concerned.

"Sam's hit!" Natasha calls, and I look up into the sky automatically. I see him spiralling towards the ground, one of his wings almost completely gone. He lands harshly on the glass roof of a restaurant, before rolling off onto the ground. My heart enters my throat and dread sets in. Oh no.

"Sam!" Bucky yells over coms.

We can see Sam laying there, but he's not moving.

"Sam?!" Steve calls over the coms.

"Sam, do you copy? Answer me!" Bucky yells again.

A robot has spotted Sam and is closing in, but Steve throws the shield at it from a distance, successfully fending it off.

"Yeah, I copy..." Sam finally says something over coms, a pained groan evident in his voice as he shifts his body.

"Anything broken?" Steve asks.

"Don't think so... maybe a rib or two." Sam admits, sitting up. I exhale, relieved to know he's not too hurt. "Can't believe my wings are down," he groans, this time more annoyed.

"Someone needs to extract Wilson," Natasha advises, "his injuries could be worse. That was a high fall."

"Quinjet is en route." Mr Stark responds.

"Don't worry about it. I'm fine, I can fight." Sam objects.

"With what? One and a quarter wings?" Bucky retorts. "And I can see your arm from here, sorry to break the news but arms aren't supposed to bend that way."

Sam seems to pause and examine his arm, before sighing. "Damn, didn't even feel it."

"He's gonna need medical care, who's available?" Steve asks.

"Definitely not Dr. Banner." I respond into coms, watching the hulk throw an empty car at a cluster of robots.

"Well, looks like it's up to you sparkle fingers." Mr Stark declares.

"What?" Thor asks. The quinjet appears overhead and lands on the battlefield.

"No, not you." Mr Stark sighs. "Stephen."

"Oh."

"Absolutely not," Dr Strange protests. "I'm a neurosurgeon, not a EMD."

"Banner is still the Hulk and the city is on lockdown, so you're all we've got." Rhodey insists. "Sam needs help."

"I'm not happy about it either, I'd much rather continue the fight." Sam interjects.

"Respectfully Sam, your opinion doesn't matter, you probably hit your head." Yelena tells him casually.

"Head injury! That's your field Strange." Mr Stark insists, the grin evident in his voice.

"Fine." Dr strange sighs. I see a portal appear next to Sam, and Dr Strange steps out. He helps Sam to his feet and they move towards the quinjet.

I hope none of Sam's injuries are too bad. At least he didn't look or sound seriously hurt. Hopefully Dr. Strange will update us.

And there we go! Poor Sam, being put on involuntary time out. Not that time out is voluntary. But you get my point lol

See you next chapter with Hiccup's POV.
