Chapter 30: And so it begins (Peter + guest)

Previously:

Those who can't fly (Clint, Yelena, Natasha, Kate, Bruce—he's not yet the Hulk, he'll transform outside) go with Dr Strange and those who can (Sam, Mr Stark, Wanda, Vision) go to the launchpad. I gather there, too, knowing I can swing down because I'm Spider-man and that's what I do. I bounce up and down on the spot, psyching myself up in anticipation.

"Alright," Mr Stark's helmet comes down. "Let's do this shit."

Refer to the last chapter for Hiccup's recollection of the recent events

P.s have mercy on me I'm pretty bad at writing action. Thx.

Now:

Third pov, a while ago

"Steve!" Bucky shouted over the wind, raising his metal arm up to shield himself from the storm as he walked after the vague silhouette of his idiot friend. "Shouldn't have let him go off," Bucky muttered to himself, frustrated. A bench seat came flying out of nowhere and he barely reacted in time, ducking down as it flew over his head. Bucky raised his finger to his coms. "Steve, what are you doing?! There's nothing here but wind and rain!" He yelled over the wind. No response. "Steve!" He shouts into the cons again, but still no response. He can't see him at all now.

"Anyone copy? I've lost contact with Steve." He asks into coms with a clenched jaw, wiping rain off his face. No one responds. Its static. The storm must be interfering. Frustrated, Bucky stalks through the growing puddles in search of Steve.

Meanwhile, Steve stands still. No wind or rain is reaching him, yet all around him the storm brings chaos. He'd heard about the eye of the storm, but something tells him it shouldn't be like this.

He stares, unsure how to react to the colourful flow of currents swirling around ahead of him. He squints, almost swearing he could see people in there. But it's impossible! The currents are no bigger than his hand! Yet, there in a green glow was a little boy with a stuffed animal in hand staring back at him. There in a red glow was an older boy with chains hanging off him. There in a orange light was a girl hanging from a cliff. Not hanging, jumping. And there... no. Impossible. He had to be going crazy. Dreaming. Because right there, behind a pink light, Peggy— his Peggy— was staring back at him.

Peter
And so it begins. At Mr Stark's word we all go our seperate ways, either bounding onto the deck or through the portal, wasting to time. I run towards the deck/launchpad with the others, but in the last moment get impatient and decide to use the window instead—itching to get to the battle as fast as possible. FRIDAY gets the memo as I jump towards it and opens it just in time.

"Hello Peter," Karen greets as I free fall through the air. "Would you like to activate enhanced combat mode?"

"Hey Karen," I greet cheerfully. "No, I-I'm good. Maybe later though."

"Coms check,"  I hear Sam's voice come through as I near the ground. I shoot a web at a building and swing off towards battle, which seems to be around the centre of New York (to absolutely no ones surprise). Glancing up, I catch a sight of Sam soaring overhead. "This is Sam, come in everyone."

An influx of voices ring through at once and I laugh. There's an awkward pause before we start speaking again, this time one at a time.

Everyone says their name and confirms they can hear everything. We still haven't heard from Steve or Bucky, but hopefully they'll show up soon. Preferably very soon because I've just reached the main battle along with almost everyone else.

There's robots everywhere, destroying cars, crashing into buildings, and chasing after innocent people. Generally being the typical terrifying robots I remember them being on the news when Ultron was around. But, just like the first one I saw at the tower, these ones have weird black goo flowing out of them in random places. It's quite thick looking, it almost looks like oil, and seems to be a continuous flow despite not having any visible source. The robots are either purple or grey and black, some covered in scratches and some in pristine condition. Other than that, they look exactly like Ultron.

And of course, there's weird aliens around too. They're also in varying colours, seeming to range in shades of light green and rusty brown and orange. Most have one head but there's a fair few that have two—or even three— heads. They're so bug like and just... ew. I can hear their joints clicking and sliding together as they move. They let out weird jittery shrieks as they clamber all around the place. Surely that can't be normal. It's like the battle of New York has been combined with the whole Ultron thing—though with different aliens of course. And it's still raining.

I jump back as a robot hits the ground right in front of me, a few of its pieces breaking off on impact which luckily don't hit me.
...it's not just rain by the looks of it. Yeah, the robots and aliens are literally falling from the sky. Fun.
I watch the robot seemingly recover from the fall like it was nothing. They seem to be falling from amongst the clouds with there being no obvious portal. They're just... there.

Mr Stark flies above me in his Iron Man suit and blasts at a group of robots that had a woman cornered, sending the robots flying back and malfunctioning. "Let's get a move on," he says in coms, "I want to be back for dinner."

"As long as you're not cooking," comes colonel Rhodes' voice, flying by my right in War Machine. Where did he come from? You know what, I'm not complaining. Help is help, after all.

I shoot a web and swing forward, swinging my legs forward to slam my feet into a robot advancing on the same woman. "Go, mam! Get outta here." I urge her as the robot goes crashing to the ground. She, a human with working brain cells, doesn't have to be told twice and takes off running. With how fast she ran, she should join the olympics.

"Ouch, honeybear. Thought you loved my soufflé."

The robot I kicked has recovered and is advancing towards me, this time accompanied by three others.
"Surrender or perish," a weird disgruntled voice snaps from the robot. "Surrender or perish..."

My spider sense goes off and I lean to the left, a few bullets flying past me. I then jump up, grabbing onto the head of the closest one midair and pulling it back, effectively taking its head off.

"That thing you made in senior year of high school? It was a health hazard, Tones. I'm pretty sure it gave the janitor food poisoning."
"Yeah but I got us a week off school, didn't I?"

However, a whole bunch of the thick goop sprays on my hands. I land on the ground with a thud and look at my hands, fake gagging. A few bullets fly by me again, but all I do to dodge them is duck.

"You guys are so weird..." I grimace, shaking my hand to try and be rid of the goop. It's a bit sticky, and doesn't like to seperate from itself, but I manage to get it off. I look back at the other bots. "Taser webs," I order. "Use- use the prototype I was working on last week!"
"Taser webs armed." Karen informs me.

Jumping up to avoid one bot lunging for me, I fire a web from each webshooter at two of them, then yank the bots together with a grunt. "Surrender or—"

"Activate!" I shout. The webs light up with voltage and I let go as soon as it reaches the bots. After a few seconds of electrocution, they short circuit and shut down. The middle one was also affected, due to its close proximity.

"Yes!" I cheer, running away from the smouldering mess. I press a hand to my ear. "Guys, watch out for the robot's bullets... They're a bad aim, though." I say into coms. "Like those things from Star Wars."

"Got it," Kate confirms.
"Copy!" Clint adds. Typical, the two people who are probably the furthest away and less likely to be effected are the only ones to respond.

Sure enough, glancing up I see Kate perched on one balcony across the street from me, and after a few more seconds of searching I see Clint on the opposite side of the battle, lying on a roof. They got up there really quick, I wonder if Dr Strange portalled them up there?
"Why you looking at me, for?" Clint asks, I can hear the grin in his voice. "Just showing my support."
"Dude, you're the furthest away!" Sam exclaims. I look around for him curiously, just to see him swoop down and tackle an alien to the ground. Nice roll.

"Careful, don't get your feathers ruffled." Comes Clint's response.
"Hey!" A voice shouts. I look over, punching a hole in a robot without needing to see it. Mr Bucky walks into view with a shit-eating grin. "Only I can insult the birdbrain!"
Bucky's here!

"Nice of you to show up, Adam Jensen!" Comes Mr Stark's quip. Is that some type of outlandish reference? Wait...Isn't Adam Jensen from... Deus Ex: Human? Like he works at a biotechnology company or something? Oh! He has a prosthetic arm! I get the connection.
"Aww, look at you, Mr Stark! Making relevant pop culture references!" I laugh into coms. I do a flip to avoid a projectile, and turn and web up a robot to a street lamp.

"Aww, man. You leave for an hour, and it's like everybody forgets about you!" A voice jokes in coms. Wait. Is that Cap?!
"Yeah, it's cause I'm cooler." Bucky responds. I duck under a flying alien thing then grab its leg, yanking it down to the ground.
"Ewww!" I groan, turns out I just pulled its leg off. It's more slimy then I thought it would be, yet I can still feel it's bones!
"Bucky. Buddy. I'm pretty sure I can confidently say I'm the one that's the most cool."
"Yeah. Yeah. You were frozen in ice. We get it." Comes Bucky's response. "Shame it's become your entire personality."

Third pov, a little while ago

"Steve!" Bucky shouted, this time not because he couldn't hear himself, but because he was scared. Scared to see his best friend lying motionless on the ground. He ran up to him, landing on his knees in front of him and turning him over to see eyes shut and body still.

Bucky shook as his hands found Steve's head. He tapped him on the cheeks, trying to wake him up but scared if he got any closer he'd realise Steve was dead.

Steve stirred and Bucky sighed, nearly collapsing in relief. "You ass!" He exclaimed as he watched him open his eyes. "I thought you were dead!"

Steve smiled and shook his head, "no, I'd never leave you behind." He took Bucky's outstretched hand and sat up. "Im with you to the end of the line, of course."

Bucky stood, "The line's not ending anytime soon, not if I can help it." Steve stood as well. "What happened, Steve? I've been looking for you and you wouldn't answer me."

"I saw... people."

"Civilians? Were you on your whole 'disregard my personal well-being to be a hero' shit?" They started walking towards the motorbike they'd arrived on. The storm had stopped several minutes ago, leaving Bucky to find Steve unconscious not long after.

"No. I... I made it to the eye. And I was these— these lights. And... I saw Peggy."

"Steve. Peggy is dead." Bucky sighed softly, looking at his friend in concern.

"I know, but I saw her. It was like looking through a foggy window into the distance. She was there, if I squinted enough. "

"What happened? Did you get hurt?"

"I dont... I reached out to touch it. Then I woke up with you."

"Of course you touched it." Bucky sighed, swinging onto the motorbike and kick starting it. "Because you don't know how to leave things alone."

"It seemed like a good idea at the time." Steve sat behind Bucky. "Where are we going?" He asked as they took off.

"There." Bucky gestured to the giant storm forming overhead.

"Right." Steve nodded, knowing a big fight was about to come.

Peter

"So Cap finally showed. Did you forget the way, old man?" Mr Stark doesn't miss a beat in the coms. "We might need to hire you a carer, Y'know. Someone to do your shopping and take you to water aerobics."
"How did you..."

The alien screeches in my vague direction, obviously angry to have its leg ripped off its body because who wouldn't. It sets its sight on me, it's beady eyes narrowing as it lands in front of me. It's leaking a steady stream of blood. At least it's red.

"Guys, can we get back to the fight at hand?" Natasha sighs. "We'll discuss it later."
"Yes, mam," all three respond simultaneously.

"Heeyyy. I think you dropped this." I quip, waving the leg around. Not quite sure why I'm still holding it. The alien bounds towards me, but I just swing the leg at its head as hard as I possibly can.
Good news: I stabbed its eye out.
Bad news: the leg snapped in two like a twig. Seriously, it was weaker than my will to live. Just kidding.

As it screeches (probably in pain) I waste no time in jumping on it's back and ripping it's wings off. It cries out in pain, but I simply slam its head down towards the ground. It snaps off. Wow why am I beheading everything so much? Should I be concerned?

I hop off the body as it falls to the ground, and eye it. It twitches for a while before growing still. Nice.

I spin around, just to come face to face with four other aliens, with one having two heads and another having pretty useless-looking wings. "You know these aliens are pretty harmless," I remark into coms, charging towards them. I have to duck to avoid a robot firing at me, but I ignore it because I know once I take care of these guys—which won't take long— I can just take it down afterwards.

"Well yeah, if you avoid the retractable horns." Natasha's remark has me hesitate just as I reach them.
"The what?!" I slid to a stop right in front of the aliens, which don't do much but make weird clicking sounds. Not sure if they're coming from a mouth or it's bones. Either way: creepy and gross.

"The ones on its head." Natasha responds as if I'm dumb. I jump forward towards one of the aliens, sure enough two spiky horns come out of its head towards me and I have to step back. Oh. Guess I'll have to watch out for those ones.

Nonetheless, I carry on with the fight and take all four weird aliens in around a minute, coming out of it with only a poke to the side from the horns (I forgot to mind the one with two heads).

"Hey," I hear Kate say into coms a few minutes later as I'm fighting a robot off of a man. "The storm's already clearing."

Glancing up at the sky after I take the robot down, I see that the dark clouds above are fading. The amount of robots and aliens coming through also seems to be thinning from thousands to hundreds, which has to be a good thing. "She's right, everyone!"

"I hope Strange can find a way to open a portal then," Mr Stark says as the storm fully disappears, leaving fluffy clouds overhead and the descent of the last few dozen robots and aliens before it looks like a regular sky once again. Which is good, but there's a lot of robots and aliens around. I don't know how much exactly, but I'm thinking at least thirty thousand. Which is... a lot.

"Cause now we got nothing," Steve adds. I didn't think about that. I hope dr Strange and his friend can figure something out, not just to be rid of these aliens and robots but also to help Hiccup. Who knew this would be part of my life?! The multiverse, inter dimensional travel, dragons. Fighting literal bug like aliens and weird gooey robots. With the Avengers. The AVENGERS! I know now isn't the time to get sentimental, but for the longest time I have looked up to the Avengers and now to be fighting with them (again)?! What even is my life.

Hearing a distant scream ring out amongst all the metal crunching, glass smashing, machine whirling and alien clicking, I snap out of my thoughts to swing off swiftly towards it. I follow the sound to a small café, jumping in through the shattered window to see a young boy being cornered by an alien. The young boy looks to be about eight or nine and he's backed into the corner with a wooden chair gripped tightly in his hands as his only defence. He's shouting at the alien, trying to be brave.

"You stay away from me! N-nasty alien!" He snaps.

I leap over an overturned table and step over some chairs, gaining the attention of the boy. I raise my finger to my lip to signal him to be quiet and he looks away, pretending he didn't see me. I crawl up onto the wall and assess the situation. I need to find a way to take the bug out, but it's close to the boy and the horns might hurt him.
"Peter, try to go for the back legs and drag it back," Karen suggests. Good idea!

I crawl up a little higher and prop myself up by my feet, raising both web shooters and firing at the legs. They strike and I yank back fairly hard. Too hard, cause the legs fly off. These aliens are WEAK.
"Awww, man." I groan. The alien turns, spotting me and letting out some ungodly sound from the deep pits of... space, probably. "Well at least I got ya attention."

I leap down from the wall, doing a flip to land on the alien, throwing a punch at the same time. After a few seconds I manage to get it far enough from the boy that he's able to escape. "Go spider-man!" He cheers.

"Where are your people, kid?" I ask, dodging a swinging horn and landing a kick to the weird alien, before pushing it into a table.

"I don't know. They went to get refills from the bank before everything happened."

I finally web the alien up so it can't move and glance around. "They own this place?"

"Yeah, we make the best pancakes in town!" He remarks proudly.
"Well, I'll have to come by later and check it out for myself." I grin, though he can't see it. "But for now, let's get you out of here."

"The closest safe house is a homeless shelter a few blocks away. Mapping route now."

I walk up, holding out a hand. He puts the chair down, probably not even realising he was still holding it, and takes mine. I lead us to a back window and push it open. "Hold on tight," I instruct cheerfully as I climb up. He hugs me like a koala and I try not to aww at the cuteness.

I shoot a web and swing us away from the battle. "Taking a civilian to the homeless shelter!" I say into coms with one hand.

"Hurry back," comes Yelena's response. "You'll miss out on the fun."

"You can stop to grab me a coffee if you want."

"Tony."

"I'm kidding Capsicle, Geez."

When we reach the shelter, I'm horrified to see a pile of rubble. I try not to let it show, not wanting to frighten the kid.

"Well, the shelter is no good, there looks like there was some kind of explosion." I exclaim into coms, landing on a roof and being sure to keep us out of sight.

"Do you think anyone's hurt?" The boy asks.

I don't know how to answer that honestly without scaring him.

"I'll come scan for survivors." Rhodey says in coms, and I catch sight of him overhead.

"Whoa, war machine!" The boy grins, forgetting his question when Rhodey flies into sight. There's a pause as he hovers and has Friday—or whatever ai he has in his suit—scan. He then flies down and pulls off a few pieces of wood and concrete, revealing a battered but otherwise ok man.

"The next available safe space is a cars museum." Karen tells me and I relay it to the coms.

"Alright, cars museum it is." Rhodey conforms and pulls up next to the boy and I.
"Race you!" I grin. Rhodey retracts his helmet.
"Ooh, watch carefully kid you're about to see War Machine kick some spider ass."
"You wish," I retort.
"Can we go?" The man asks. "Please?"

"Right." Rhodey chuckles.
"Sorry." I add.

We take off, and as for who won I'll spare you the details (😭), but when we get there, there's a bunch of robots nearby. We don't want to draw attention to the shelter so Rhodey gives me the man to take while he tries to distract and get rid of the robots.

"Hold on tight guys," I say, the position is a little awkward because I've got Koala Kid on one side and the man on the other, so swinging is a little weird. I get into the museum through a top window and hop down to the wall to lower them down to the small crowd gathered below.

"Thank you, Spider-man." They both say.
"I hope you find your parents, kiddo." I give the boy a head rub and a thumbs up to the man. "Is everyone ok in here?"

"Yeah, just a little bruised." One of the people in the crowd responds.
"Okay, well stay low and away from the windows." I tell them. I pause when I hear Rhodey talk.
"Hey spider-man, I need you out here." Rhodey calls. "Now would be ideal."
"okay, gotta go." I tell them and leave back out if the same window.
"Coming, metal man," I respond into coms.

I emerge into chaos, seeing about twenty robots closed in on Rhodey, who'd landed down on the street. One's even on him. I swing up towards the mess, grabbing a hold of one of the robots and swinging a fist at its head a few times until it comes off. But just as I go to grab another, my spidey sense screams at me to duck and I do so, one of rhodey's blasts flying over my head as he yells to look out. I turn my head to see the blast hit two robots, sending them flying back.

"Uh, thanks?" I call uncertainly. Thanks for nearly shooting my head off??? But giving me a warning? That was too late???

"Sorry!" He responds, wrestling a robot off his suit.

It takes us a couple minutes, but together we manage to web up/blast/immobilise the robots and are able to return to the fight. When we get there it's just as chaotic as before, if not more. I pick the first group of aliens I see and head towards them, tackling the first one off a parked car. I listen to the coms as I fight the aliens—one is particularly angry and is trying its absolute best to impale me with its horns.

"Cap you've got a big group coming from behind," Natasha calls in coms. There's a pause and a sarcastic "Wow nice swing, grandpa."
"Ya know what, Romanoff?!"

"Kate... I need more trick arrows, cover me." Clint.
"Go, go. I got you, I got you!" Kate.
A pause. I finally take the alien down, just to come face to face with three more as well as a purple robot firing seemingly endless bullets. I crack my knuckles, staring at them intimidatingly, then jump at them.

"Hey! That one was a little close." Clint.
"I'm sorry! But... in my defence there was like five of them!" Kate.

"Sam, a little help?" Bucky calls, voice strained.
"Coming Bucky. I knew you weren't mad at me,"
"shut up and get over here, Wilson."

I finally web up the aliens long enough to focus on the robot. "How many of these guys ARE there?!" I snap as I punch the robot in the chest, or would be chest area. My hand comes out bothered in goo and I cringe, shaking it off.

"Just—just keep fighting. We'll get the upper hand eventually." Captain America orders, grunting from some kind of force or something, indicating he's in the middle of fighting something.

"Where's banner? We need the big guy." Natasha.
"Hulk's over by me." Wanda responds.
"Send him over, please Wanda."  Natasha requests.
"Sure."

I take the robot down and move off through the battle. There's so many of them it's hard to pick a target. I eventually end up next to Stephen for a while, and we work together for a few minutes by using portals and my webs to take down a heap of aliens together.

"This is so cool, Sir!" I cheer, swinging feet first through an orange portal and kicking an aliens head right off. It's like the space battle but cooler and with lower stakes!

"Please," he retorts as I leap through another portal and land on top of a particularly big alien, "we saved the world, I think we're beyond you calling me 'sir'." I slam my fists into one of the aliens until it drops.

"Mmm, okay Stephen..sir."

A few minutes later I end up being separated from Dr Strange in all the chaos. There's so many aliens and robots around, they just keep flooding in from alleyways and buildings. It's like we're not even making a dent. Kicking an alien into a wall harshly and immediately ducking to avoid a spray of bullets, I huff in annoyance. At least they're a terrible aim. After webbing up the alien, I turn to face the robots. There's like twelve of them, with a few extras coming over.
"Surrender or perish," the robots chant again, but they're not perfectly in sync which is disappointing. Like, at least try to be on time!
"SuReNdEr Or PeRiSh," I mock. "It's like you walked right out of a movie. But not a good one; a really terrible one with low budget and at least two stolen trademarked lines."
The robots just keep repeating the same stupid line, "Surrender or perish."
"Like c'mon, you're not even giving good options." I quip, crouching low as I get ready to attack. "Why would I ever pick surrender?"
The robots fall short of me, their robotic forms whirling and cranking as the black goo continues to flood out of them. "Ooh, guys. You're, uh, you're leaking." I add, grinning.
I guess they weren't happy with that, because they decide to shorten their phrase. "Perish."
"I have detected an acceleration in their electrical currents," Karen advises me, "I advise you steer clear of any targeted blasts,"
"Well they're not really—" a beam of red hot bullets flies towards me, but I duck and roll to dodge them. "...that dangerous. Yeah, okay, those are not regular bullets."

The robots are closing in rapidly, their shoulders opening up to have guns pointed at me threateningly. I hear a sound and I turn around, just to see a whole bunch of robots closing in from that side, too. Hmm, okay...
I crouch low, getting ready to fight like my life depends on it. Cause it does. But you know that.
A robot flies forward, attempting to attack me fist to metal, but I block it's swinging robot arm thing, and twist to the side to avoid a metal spike (!!!) from impaling me. Where the [redacted] did that come from?!
"Whoa!" I cry, jumping back as it swings back into the robots body and out of sight, wires and metal stretching back over it. That is NOT normal.

Now about six or seven robots come forward, all chanting "perish" at varying degrees of volume and intensity. I barely have the room to dodge hits because they're surrounding me. My eyes widen, feeling their robotic arms grabbing at me.
"Hey, Spider-man are you good over there?" Clint's voice rattles the com in my ear as the robots pile on. I clench my teeth, images of the hyper realistic illusions I went through with the whole Mysterio thing flashing in my mind.

"Peter your breathing and heart rate is elevated," Karen informs me. Her voice helps me get a grasp on the present, and I am able to throw one of the robots off me. It hits a few others and they go down like bowling pins, but two more robots take its spot.

"Anyone available to help spider-man?! He's getting outnumbered, it's not looking great!" Clint calls out into coms. I know it's not likely, no one is even in eye shot. I strain under the weight of the robots, hearing the mechanical shrinking that tells me they're about to deploy the metal spikes and impale me. Calm down, I urge myself sharply, you do not have the right to freak out right now! Pull yourself together. Trust your tingle.

I inhale slowly and close my eyes. I focus on my spider sense. It's cliche to say that it's like time slows, but it feels like it does. I lean into that sense, moving my body automatically when it tells me to. Doing this, I throw three robots off me, kick one's head clean off, smash two together, pull out wires and guns—all while dodging bullets and those metal spikes. In fact, I instinctively get a hold of one of said spikes and instinctively stab it through two of the robots like a cool robo-kebab (their goo is the sauce) and then instinctively use the other end to swing them around like a psycho. Instinctively.

After a few more seconds of relying on my sense, I open my eyes when I throw the last robot off me and watch it slam into a car.

"...nice job, Spidey." Clint whistles, my chest heaving as I stand in the middle of a circle of destruction.
"That was so cool!" Kate exclaims, excited.
"Thanks guys, did you like the robo kebab?!" I beam into coms.
"The what—?!" Rhodey asks.
"Wow, I'm offended. Were you not watching my show?" I tease.
"I'm... a little pre occupied." Comes his response, voice strained as he fights.

"Hmm, not good enough, colonel Rhodes sir!" I grin. Just then, a bunch of robots start approaching in all their whirling glory. I groan, trying not to feel too exhausted. That horrible clicking sound rings out and I look over to see a couple aliens crawling over cars and things to approach me. I sigh, picking up a metal beam as an extra weapon. Alright, let's do this.

Alright there we go. So sorry for the shitty fighting descriptions lol, unfortunately there's gonna be more to come. Ngl I hit a bit of writers block in this chapter cause of the fighting but I eventually got it done. As always, feel free to drop advice but be gentle cause I'm a sensitive mf 😅😆

Next chapter is Hiccup's POV ofc. See you then!
