Chapter 23: Can I go home yet? (Hiccup)
Previously:
Hiccup is given the opportunity to rebuild Toothless' tail in Tony's lab. He, Tony and Spider-man share a brief discussion about some of Hiccup's inventions, genuinely enjoying each other's company until its interrupted by the one and only Stephen Strange who comes baring bad news.
Refer to the last chapter for Peter's recollection of the recent events.
Now, onto the chapter.
HICCUP'S POV
I try to keep up with the conversation as they talk, coming to the understanding that the storms are bad and that somehow, someone is causing them. Which is completely crazy, if you ask me. They don't know who it is, but it can't be good. That's pretty much all I got out of the conversation apart from the fact that Tony and the other guy, I don't think he ever introduced himself to me, have had some sort of incident in the past and now their every interaction is full of sarcasm and passive aggressive remarks. Their banter reminds me of the twins and Snotlout, just less playful and more angry. I'm eventually able to shout at them to shut them up long enough so we can form some type of plan.
"It's like dealing with the twins," I mutter under my breath as Tony, Spider-man, Toothless and I head out of the lab. "The same attention span."
"Who are they?" Spider-man asks. Again, how the helheim did he hear that???
"Uhh, friends..." I explain awkwardly as we approach the dreaded elevator, "They're very destructive, disruptive, and easily distracted." Not to mention the weird spirals of random information. I mean, c'mon Tuffnut, who freezes milk?!
"Oh cool," Spider-man beams with a childlike innocence. I really do wonder how old he is, though I know it's none of my business. I bet it's hard to taken seriously when all people see is your age. I know what it's like, not being believed, or taken seriously, because people are only taking you at face value. After all, people would take ONE look at me and be like "ah, this is a twig. Can't possibly be Stoick the Vast's spawn.". Like, gee thanks. I know I have noodle arms but that doesn't stop me from making that sword you're carrying.
The elevator doors open and we all shuffle in. It's still a tight fit, but it's not the worst that could happen. If my father was here, it would be a very tight fit. Good thing he's so tall, otherwise he'd probably impale someone with the horns in his helmet.
The doors soon open and we pile out onto the floor I've been staying on. My dad was easy to find in a crowd, yes, whether that be by his voice or his size. Hard to hide from, though, it's like he had a birds eye view. Too bad it took him so long to see past his thick ego and realise the truth about dragons. It quite literally took me nearly dying for him to realise he was wrong. I'm glad he did, though. I'd hate to think about what it could have been like had he not accepted me.
I shake myself out of my thoughts as we amber through to the living space. We're the only ones around, so we take a seat in the living area. There's still tension in the air from Tony and the other guy's argument, so I decide to break the awkward silence.
"So, uh, who was that guy?"
"His name is Stephen Strange," Tony explains. "He's a jerk."
"Oh, okay. And he's the one that might be able to get us home?"
"In theory, yes." Tony nods. "Unfortunately he's all we have."
"Aww, come on Mr Stark, he can't be that bad!" Spider-man exclaims.
"Trust me kid, you don't wanna know."

"Boss, Phil Coulson is on the line," Friday speaks up after some time, making me jump as usual. I vaguely remember Coulson as the man who came up to us when Toothless and I first met Tony and Spider-man.
"Alright, let it through." Tony nods. We all perk up, excited to hear any news. I think I'm getting the hang of the modern technology, from what I understand it's some kind of device that allows us to hear what Phil says, no matter how far away he is. Like something is plucking his voice from the air and spitting it out next to us.
This would have been useful back when we had the Edge, instead of having to rely on terror mail and word of mouth to communicate with berk.
"What do you have for us, agent?" Tony asks.
"So all our scouts have reported back, nothing was found at any of the storms. No signs of life."
"Damn. Thought we had a lead there. Any unusual sightings by locals?" Tony asks.
"No, we asked around. All they talked about was how brief the storms were and how thick the clouds were."
"So nothing came through?" I ask, assuming he can hear all of us.
"We don't believe so. It's possible that maybe things did come though, and were able to escape and hide, but we doubt it."
"...So, this was all a false alarm?" Spider-man wonders. "A natural fluke?"
"Maybe, but we shouldn't let our guards down."
"Yeah, keep us posted on any changes at the storm locations," Tony directs. "We'll keep an eye out from here."
"So long as you keep us updated on the situation from Central Park. Have an update?"
"Oh, would you look at that? We're going through a tunnel." Tony exclaims bluntly. He waves his hand over the light thing (a hologram) producing from his wrist. "Bye."
"We thought you might say that," A new voice speaks up, and we all turn to see a tall, bald, darker-skinned man with one eye standing in the doorway. "So I popped in for a visit."
"Yay, pirates here." Tony groans, slumping in his seat as the taller man walks in. "I need to remove your tower access."
"S.H.I.E.L.D would appreciate an update on the situation," The man goes on, ignoring Tony's comment.
"Well so would we," Tony shoots back, "as soon as we know, we'll tell you. Probably."
"I'm not here for your bullshit, Stark," The man scowls, waving his hand around. "Just fix the damn mess!"
"We're doing our best, eyepatch. At least we are getting somewhere. Your shield lackeys proved useless as usual."
"Well do 'your best' harder. Shield doesn't want to have to step in."
"Firstly, yes you do, you always do. Secondly, you wouldn't get any further than we have. And thirdly, are we done here? I think we are."
The man turns to look at me, regarding me for the first time. "And you're the situation?"
I shift, uncomfortable under his gaze. "Well, it appears that way..." I answer with a nervous laugh, speaking for the first time.
He only hums, before turning away and walking out the door. The distant ding of the elevator sounds, letting us know of his exit.
"He seems... I wanna say nice but..." I break the silence with an awkward laugh.
"He's so pushy," Spider-man groans. "You should have seen when the whole Mysterio thing happened. Even tranquillised Ned JUST so I'd listen to him. Ridiculous."
"Tell me about it," Tony grumbles. "He made me exit the donut."
"So, who was he, anyway?" I ask, once again not having a clue. It seems to happen a lot here.
"Nick Fury. He's the director of S.H.I.E.L.D." Tony responds.
Huh. That's pretty close to Night Fury. I'm assuming it's a coincidence.
"Oh, okay."

It's another half hour before anyone else joins us. Pepper walks in mid 'patrol' story courtesy of Spider-man, who hasn't yet noticed her presence.
"...and he was all, 'oh you didn't have to do that, these are my good shoes!' And I was all, 'you didn't have to rob a store either, man, but here we are!' And then— oh, hi Miss Potts!"
"Hi guys," she greets, sounding tired. "I've been on calls with our contacts. No one I speak to has any clue of what's happening."
"Mr Coulson called, they got nothin'," Spider-man replies, slumping over the couch upside down dramatically.
"I think we should call a meeting," Pepper tells Tony. "Everyone's around anyway, either here already, or somewhere close by."
"Yeah, you're the boss." Tony shrugs, getting up to make himself another drink. I don't know if I am counted for said meeting, I'll just wait and see if they invite me along.
"Don't I know it!" Pepper smirks. She pulls out a small object and starts tapping it.
"I'm assuming there's no update on when we'll be getting home," I speak up. Pepper gives a sympathetic smile and I nod, accepting the answer even though I wish it were different. I just want to go home, but instead we're stuck here. Don't get me wrong, it's not so bad here, but I miss everyone, I miss Astrid. I know how worried she'd get when we don't return. She'll try to stay calm for everyone else's sake, but I know she'll be watching the horizon for every waking moment. Of course, she'll stay strong, She's Astrid! I just wish she won't have to be strong for long.
I know, I know. It's another filler, but it's necessary for plot. Sorry for any errors :)
This is for no particular reason, but if Something I ever write comes across the wrong way, please let me know! Im a bit clueless sometimes ahaha
Alright, cya next update!
