Chapter 6- Clouds
It took a while for me to get used to Crystal, and how calm she was. Weren't humans supposed to be afraid of dragons?
It was quite obvious that she wasn't like most humans. She acted differently, moved differently, and she trusted me. It was a trust that I returned in every way.
That night, I led her into my den. I didn't have any real treasure, just some sparkly rocks I had found, along with the scrap of paper I had found.
Crystal followed my gaze as I looked at it, and she squealed happily. "You found it!" She exclaimed, rushing over to it and picking it up.
What does it say? I asked her. Curiosity had gotten the better of me.
Crystal smiled. "It's strange. I never read my writing for other people, but with dragons, I feel...safe. I feel like they understand me more." She sat down, unfolding the paper.
And with that, she began to read.
"I see the eagles
Soaring in the sky
And deep in the midnight
I hear the wolves cry.
The moon shines down
Lighting up the sea
I know that the waves
Are calling to me.
I try to break out
But the burdens remain
The others are free
While I'm stuck with the pain.
All I want
Is to break away
To soar above the clouds
And fly to another day."
She stops, handing me the paper. "Do you want it?"
It's very pretty. I say, placing the paper back where it was before. What do you call it?
She shrugs. "What about...Clouds?"
Clouds. I repeat the word. I like it.
She smiles again. "Yay!"
However, the words of the poem keep ringing in my head. I'll make sure that she escapes one day.
I'll show her how to fly among the clouds.
