Chapter One

Eighteen years later, that tiny babe was now the best dragon rider, the one with a night fury, and peg leg... If you ask Snotlout Jorgensen. He defeated the red death with help of the black dragon, one of the most feared dragons, but he just calls him Toothless. That night, he couldn't remember, he wasn't ever told about, nor has he ask.

Most people on the island weren't even aware of what occurred that night, Stoick believed a dragon got into the house and what his wife who was 'also' taken by dragons was going mad, even told her that she was speaking madness, shadowy figures that had supernatural strength and smelt like a rotting corpse? Madness. Even though there was a smell to the place that would be what his wife described. Even if what she said was true why would a dragon want to protect HIS sons? That was insane. He never told Hiccup about having twin, how could he ever bring it up in a conversation? It wasn't something easy to bring up. But the stole child was still alive, probably raised by the beast who took him.

Another thing the chief kept from his son, the pain he experienced, it wasn't always his, some would scar, others wouldn't depending on how Severe the injury was. He couldn't explain it, the two could feel each other's pain. According to Gothi; the village healer and elder, it was a rare occurrence in twins, not all twins would have it but some would, being able to feel each other's pain. Your own was bad enough but another's persons? That would be even worse. Especially not knowing what was going on. Stoick and Valka learnt of this when they were only two days old. One day he would have to tell him the truth, even if that meant his son would hate him.

Outside the archipelago, thousands of miles away on a small island known as The Defenders of the Wing, is where the great dragon rider was, with the other dragon riders, they had just successfully managed to deliver the Eruptadon egg to the fire terrors, and made it out alive if it wasn't for Meatlug and the BoardWing Eruptadon, they probably be dead. Hiccup and Fishlegs had been disagreeing on every little thing, which wasn't like them. Could have been stress of the situation, not to mention their disagreement almost got themselves and Queen Mala killed. That would have went over well with the defenders or Berk, possible war anyone?

Astrid was more than happy to have 'Hicclegs' back to normal. The gang had gone to change back into their normal clothing. Hiccup was patting his dragon who was more than worried about what had happened. If he had full tail he could have gotten them out quicker. But he had to admit Meatlug was more suited for the mission, and she would never let anything happen to them. "I'm okay bud" Hiccup stroked the dragons head. He hadn't heard Mala come up behind him.

"You and your dragon, truely do have a unique bond" She spoke, it was one of the things that fascinated her. All the dragons had a bond with their riders, but Hiccup's was different something she couldn't explain. The way all the dragons he comes across they tend to trust him. Hiccup turned to look at her.

"I'm sorry about today, I really don't know what was happening in there, Fishlegs and I are almost always on the same page" He explained. He felt bad about what happened, she looked him in the eyes.

"That, we shall put in the past, we all have off days, and we had little time to make decisions with a clear minds. And Please never explain What Hicclegs is" She told him. Hiccup chocked when she mentioned what the gang called when Hiccup and Fishlegs geeking out over things.

"Okay, I have to explain that, that is just what the gang calls us when we geek out over dragons or things we find, nothing more. I don't know why they choose that I swear" He told her, he really didn't want that to be turned around.

"Oh" It wasn't what she was thinking and she was more than thankful for it. "On to what i wanted to talk to you about" He raised an eyebrow; That wasn't what she wanted to talk about? He took a glance towards Toothless. "I noticed how admit you were to wear the long sleeve outfit, when traditional man wear the short sleeve shirt. Are you okay?"

"umm, yeah I'm all good, I am just more comfortable in long sleeves" He explained.

"Most people act differently when they are trying to hide something and, you seem to be hiding something, are you self harming?"

"No" He replied. "Mala its personal, but its nothing like... that, I swear" He looked her in her eyes, the night fury beside him gave him a concern look. "Ohh come on, you actually know" the dragon thought for a moment and agreed.

"You maybe telling the truth, but that doesn't mean your actions aren't a means for concern. Even now your deference about it, raising alarms for me" She spoke carefully. It was definitely a touchy subject, if it wasn't self-harm as he claimed, but then what? The teen let out a sigh, she was probably going to tell one of the riders or worse, his dad.

"Fine I will show you, but i don't know how to explain it" He told her as he walked to a more private area. He pulled up his sleeve, revealing just below the elbow, fainted, yet very noticeable lines, that look like patches, scars. "I don't know what they are, it's on both my arms, my back and chest" He told her. She looked at them.

"When did they appear?" she questioned as she exam the scar like lines.

"I was four, i think? I don't really remember, I know there was pain, then waking up" He explained the best he could. "I know how it seems" Mala looked at him.

"These only really two things that i can really think of that it possibly be. You had some sort of allergic reaction" she spoke.

"I thought that too, but it keeps happening, random pain, out of no where, sometimes it wakes me up other times it doesn't, but never as bad as the one I had all those years ago, and i know this sounds strange but sometimes it feels like its not my pain, I know how that sounds."

"I don't think that sounds stupid, if that what you thinking" She spoke. "What you're describing sounds like the rare condition that appears in Twins, not all, but i have seen it myself. It's what we call Shadow Scars, but like it I said it happens in twins only"

"I don't have a twin" Hiccup told her. "What is Shadow Scars anyways" He sighed, it was something he never heard of but it was something he was happy to learn" she smiled at his curiosity.

"Shadow scars when twins share pain, sometimes it leaves a scar, a shadow of pain that isn't these, but it has to be bad for it to scar. We learnt that the twin who is getting the pain is suffering more pain the other who is only feeling the pain from sharing it. We don't know what causes it or why it happens" She explained. "Are you sure you don't have a twin?"

"Yeah" He replied but was now questioning, the scars would be explained that way but he was still sure it wasn't, his dad would have told him, right? "We better get going, before it gets to late"

"Right, Hiccup, please do look into it will you?" She questioned. He only gave a nod.
