Chapter Two

Leaves cracked loudly as I darted between trees, attempting to get back to my home. Wind chimes clanged together, though I do not where they could have been hung, considering that all of the tree branches were ragged and weak.

Despite that, I kept sprinting through the forest until I reached the clearing that I always visited. The wind howled furiously and didn't let up but I still hurried on, squinting my eyes to see the three stones that encircled a patch of grass. It was filled with flowers that seemed to glow at sometimes, but it all would disappear when somebody else was present with me.

And in the middle of it all, lay the moonstone. It was the tallest of the stones and sat in the middle of the sub-stones, the other three. Inside the moonstone was a moon carved in the middle, three circles around it and inscribed above the moon was...

"€€£¥¥¥••££¥¥¥¥••••€£££•¥£€¥¥€£••••€£¥•¥£€"

Though I knew not what it meant, it felt quite joyous and positive but also dangerous and fragile.

I ran my fingers over the intricate designs. This was my safe place. Nothing could hurt me here. I glanced up to where I had once been. Leaves flew every which way, trees were pulled from the ground, and dark elves flooded from the rubble.

I tugged at my skirt and my golden belt. They didn't move or pull in the wind, they only fell back down to my legs.

I breathed a sigh of relief and sat down into the middle of the circle. I would have to wait until the storm ended. It had luckily passed my home, but had not passed me. Being in the feilds, my only option was to run to the forest.

I twiddled with my fingers and with my hair nervously. I wondered how my sister could survive this. She wasn't nearly as strong as me and she didn't know how to "be one" with nature. In fact, even the slightest speck of the dust scared her senseless.

A loud crack brought me out of my pleasant thoughts. I looked above my head to see a giant tree cracking. The wood splintered and split in mid-air. It sounded as if thunder itself was crashing upon me. I jumped from my spot and ran from the circle of stones.

The wind pulled furiously at my clothing now. The tree fell at my feet, but I couldn't move.

I wax rooted to the ground. I turned my head to a group of people staring straight at me. They walked toward me. The wind seemed to have no effect on their bodies. Their hair did not move, they didn't stagger to keep themselves within gravity's reach; they seemed almost unreal.

My muscles ached with the longing to run and to spring into action but I didn't let myself move. Fear welled up inside of me but I pushed it down. I stood still, my muscles clenched. My fists turned white and my body was immovable. Rock solid.

"Jovey, we have come to take you to Dragon school."
