Chapter Eight

Reluctantly, I hopped on the dragon. I clung to its scales like a leach to skin. Nothing could pry me from my spot.

"Alright! Get on your dragons....properly!", yelled the instructor. Carson laughed and threw himself steadily on his dragon. I looked at the other people in my element. They looked just as confused and nervous as I was.

"Now, kick the dragon.", he said. We all swung our legs to kick the dragon and we took off. People screamed and flailed their arms. Meanwhile, I sat on the dragon and wondered what else I was supposed to do. "Where are we going?", I asked the instructor. "Wherever the dragon takes you.", he replied.

I nodded and looked around, only to see that I was sitting above rivers and vast forests. The dragon took me where he was going, alright. Suddenly, I heard a voice talking. The instructor.

"Where are you coming from?", I asked. "I'm in your head. I'm in all of your heads. You'll be spending a few weeks out here.", he answered. "But we just started class.", I said, concerned. "There's a method to my madness.", he said simply. I nodded and turned to walk into the forest. "Can we stop? I'm tired!", said the dragon. "You-you talk!", I screamed. The dragon rolled his eyes. "Of course they do!", said a voice.

"What are you doing here, Carson?", I asked, slightly angered. "Just hanging out.", he explained as he hauled himself up to a tree branch. "Why do you think that you got Earth?", I asked him. "Probably because I'm grounded.", he replied sarcastically.

"Ha-Ha-Ha.", I mused. "Why do you think that you got ice?", he asked. "I don't know. I'm a very "go with the flow" type of person- kind of like water."

"Maybe you aren't as lenient as you think. You'd be surprised as to what you can learn about yourself. For example, you were worried when you found out that our instructor was leaving is out here for two weeks. A "go with the flow" person would just relax and go with it."

"No.", I whispered. "I have to get going to do...whatever we're supposed to do."

I walked through the the forest and the tall pine trees. I felt hidden among this abyss of trees as I walked into a nearby valley. I was a mere mouse in this forest. There was nobody here to care about me but my dragon and my classmates-if I ever saw them again until I got back.
