New Faces.
I saluted the judges, and the bell rang.
"Ready girl? Remember, fast and clean. We can do this"
The first jump was coming up fast.
"Three, two, one, up!"
Flicka soared through the air, and landed cleanly at the other side. The feeling couldn't be compared to flying on a dragon, but it was still pretty cool. We turned for the next jump. It was a green and pink oxer, and it was one of the tallest jumps in the course. The limit was 80cm, and this particular obstacle was pretty close. Flicka jumped it, and we kept going. The course flew by.
When I finished, I looked at my time, that they were showing on one of those luminous score boards, and I couldn't believe what I saw. It was the fastest one yet, but there were still a few riders left.
I decided not to stick around, because I was so nervous. A few minutes later, they said that they would be giving the results for the competition.
"In eventing, first place goes to: Anne Farley."
I clapped and cheered for my friend. I knew she was going to make it!
"And now, in show jumping, first place goes to... Valerie Jackson."
I stood there, stunned. Anne pushed me forward. I went up to receive my award. They pinned the blue rosette in Flicka's bridle, and they gave me a medal and an envelope. I still couldn't believe that I had won, but I was super happy.
I went to meet my parents, and they congratulated me. However, my sister's reaction was totally different. She did say congratulations, but it had such a cold tone, that I figured that she'd only said it because otherwise our parents would get mad at her.
I couldn't understand why she was acting that way. Sure, we were very competitive between us, but other than that I failed at seeing the reason for it. Maybe she was mad because she thought that Firefly would guarantee her a win, but that only showed that hard work was better than having a push-button horse. Oh well. I had to stop fretting about it.
(Time skip to school after the competition)
The day after the competition I had school. I got ready and took my bike out. I was so happy because of my win at the competition, and the fact that I'd beaten my sister and Firefly, showing her that hard work and dedication we're better than a push button horse. Even if I had the advantage of the mind communication.
I parked my bike, and headed to my locker before class. I had science first, one of my favorite classes. Just as the teacher was about to start explaining what we were going to study today, she was interrupted by a knock on the door. When she opened it, it was the headmistress.
"May I please talk to Miss Jackson?"
"Yes, of course."
I stood up from my seat, and looked at Anne with a questioning look. She shrugged in response. I exited the classroom, and asked:
"Can I ask why you took me out from class?"
"Yes. We have a new student, and I would like you to show her around."
"Why me? Aren't there other students that could be more like her?"
"Well, I know that you share some of the same likes, so I thought that you would be a good option."
"Oh, ok."
We arrived to the school's administration office. The headmistress led me through a couple of corridors, and opened a door.
"This is Raven Ally Sabbatini, Valerie."
"Hi, my name is Valerie Jackson. I'm going to show you around today. I hope we can be friends." I said to her.
Raven had black, choppy and short hair, with streaks of blood red highlights throughout. She was quite tall, but shorter than me, and was wearing a black leather jacket over a silk red corset, paired with some dark jeans, combat boots, and a spiked choker. Weirdest of all, were her eyes. There were a bright, pure purple color, with no others mixed in. I noticed a Deathly Hallows chain.
"Do you also like Harry Potter?"
"Why? Are you going to tease me about it?" She said coldly.
I wasn't expecting that, but she hadn't really said anything up till now, and I didn't know much about her personality.
"No, I saw the Deathly Hallows symbol on your chain, and I was wondering because I also love it. It is one of my favorite book series of all time."
"Want me to quiz you? See if you know everything there is to know?"
"Sure!" I replied with a smile, bring on the questions."
" All right. First one. List all the horcruxes in the order of destruction, with who killed them."
"So 1: the diary, and Harry with a basilisk fang.
2: the ring (aka resurrection stone), and Dumbledore with the sword.
3: the locket, and Ron with the sword
4:the cup, and Hermione with a basilisk fang.
5: the diadem, and Crabbe, with Findfyre.
6: Harry, and Voldemort with the killing curse.
7: Nagini, and Neville with the sword. By the way did you know that Nagini is the name of a Hindi snake monster?"
"Very good and no, I didn't. Ok, next question."
We continued that way for a while, with me pointing out important places in the school. By the end of it, Raven had deemed that I was a true Harry Potter fan.
We arrived to the art classroom, since we had missed science because of the tour. She introduced herself to the rest of the class, but her tone was as cold as when I'd first met her.
Today we could draw whatever we wanted, and the only conditions were that it had to be in color pencil, and had to use light properly. Easy. I decided to draw a picture of Isaldrí, but ir was proving harder than I'd thought. Why did dragons have to be so difficult?
"What are you drawing?" Raven asked me. I was kind of surprised, since she hadn't talked to anyone in the whole class.
"A dragon. You?"
"A stoat. It's a kind of weasel. According to Pottermore it is my patronus. I want to make a companion one that is the patronus itself, instead of the real animal."
"That is so cool."
"What is yours?"
"Pottermore said that a great grey owl, but I think it changed. I haven't checked yet."
"I think it's cool. Can you check in recess? I'm curious to see what it will be if it changed."
"Sure, I want to see too."
(Time skip)
"Ok I'm logging on now."
"I'm excited."
I scrolled down, and as I'd suspected, Pottermore said that my patronus had changed, and I had to to do the quiz again. I answered the questions, and surprise, surprise, I got a dragon. Obviously my bond with Isaldrí changed things.
"Wow, what a coincidence." Raven remarked. "A dragon is so cool. They are my favorite magical creatures."
"Mine too." Well, obviously. My partner of mind and soul is one.
We got into a discussion about magical beasts, and because of that, the upcoming Fantastic Beasts movie.
"What would be your profession in the magical world?" I asked her.
"Auror or dragon handler would be cool." She decided, after thinking a while. "I wish dragons were real."
I raised my eyebrow at that. "If only she knew."
Hi guys, I hope you liked this chapter. I haven't finished editing the others, I'm missing two or three, but I'll get them done soon. The other thing is that this chapter is dedicated to MyYandere202 for the drawings of Valerie and Raven that she made. Also a disclaimer: Raven is not my character. Again, she belongs to MyYandere202 I offered to incorporate her into my story, because she says that she is "a bad writer" (which is totally not true). Raven's backstory isn't mine either.
~Valerie.
