Dragon ~ Part 3

PJ, Chris and Phil looked frightened and bowed low in respect as he, plus two other leaders and five warriors, showed up. 

"WHO ARE YOU AND WHAT DO YOU WANT?" James bellowed, standing in front of me protectively. 

"Forgive us, we have travelled far to be here. I am PJ and this is Phil and Chris - three Dragon Shifters. We came for the meeting but got sidetracked." PJ spoke up confidently.

"Dad, what's going on?" I asked in confusion. PJ, Chris and Phil's heads snapped up in surprise. 

"DAD?!" They all exclaimed, looking terrified of James. 

"HOW DARE YOU HARM A COUNCIL MEMBER? YOU WISH TO BE WELCOMED BY HURTING OUR MEMBERS?" James growled, looking ready to murder someone. I had never seen him so worked up. 

"James, calm down I'm fine. What is all this?" I asked, frowning.

"Dan, stay out of this. They don't belong here! Now go home!" He said sternly.

"NO! I want to know what's happening! They're Dragon Shifters, they're just like me-"

"THEY ARE NOT LIKE YOU! You will not be getting involved with THEM!" James shouted. 

"I CAN DO WHAT I BLOODY WELL WANT, I'M TWENTY NOT A KID!" I shouted. "Tell me what's going on, I am a member of council and have a right to know." I scowled. James let out a frustrated groan and walked away from me, steaming with anger. Another leader, a woman called Jenny, walked over to me. 

"James just doesn't want you to get hurt. There's been some things going on in the Dragon shifting community. It has recently become dangerous and he doesn't want you to be found out or you could be killed. That's why we kept the information from you." She explained.

"Hey! It's not our fault people found out about us! You were supposed to make sure our information didn't leak!" Chris growled in his defence.

"WHAT WAS THAT BOY?" James growled in fury. Chris stood his ground but  fear flashed in his eyes.

"James not now. They aren't an enemy ... just bad luck." The last leader - Sam, said. He looked at Chris, PJ and Phil in disapproval. Phil put his hand on Chris' shoulder and I saw him visibly relax instantly. A weird jealousy went through me. Were they together? How did he calm him with a touch? Chris calmed down immediately.

"I apologize for getting angry leaders." Chris bowed his head.

"That's fine Christopher. You three will come back to the hall with us." Jenny announced.

"WHAT!?" James exclaimed.

"Shut up James! We've protected Daniel for a long time, no harm will come to him. He needs to learn the truth. He can take care of himself fine." Jenny stated sternly. James glared at her but didn't argue, storming off.

"Dan, you coming?" He asked angrily.

"I'll catch you back at the house. Talk later." I replied. He nodded and disappeared. 

"Right you three, with us. Dan, are you staying out or coming with us?" Jenny asked. I loved how the council members looked out for me, they were like a family. I suppose Jenny was more like a mother figure and put James in his place when he went out of line.

"I'll tag along, I had a good flight." I explained.

"Okay honey." She grinned and pecked my forehead. She turned and signalled for the warriors and Sam to turn back. Chris, PJ and Phil followed as well. Two warriors - Jessica and Becky, ran towards me. They were sort of my friends, we didn't hang out but we did talk sometimes during training or out on the battle field.

"Dan are you okay?" Jessica gushed.

"I'm fine." I sighed as they both checked my body for bruises. 

"Are you sure?" Becky worried, cupping my face and checking for scratches. 

I rolled my eyes, "I'm fine, really!" I exclaimed and took hold of her hands, taking them from my face. 

"Okay, well we'll see you back at the hall!" Jessica winked and kissed me on the cheek before disappearing with Becky ... I think they fancied me sometimes but I wasn't sure. I turned to see three pairs of eyes looking at me. Phil, Chris and PJ eyed me curiously. 

"COME ON YOU FOUR!" Jenny yelled. We all jogged over to them and then Chris spoke up.

"James is your father?" 

"Yes." I replied, not sure where this was going.

"Damn dude, what position do you have in the council?" He asked.

"Second in command, I train the warriors and help the leaders." I explained.

"So you're high authority?" PJ asked.

"Well, Higher than vampire royalty." I shrugged. My eyes trailed to Phil who was looking me up and down. I felt myself blush. Phil was really cute. When he saw I had caught him he blushed and ducked his head, avoiding eye contact.

"Awesome, who were those girls?" Chris asked again, "Is one of them your girlfriend?" He wiggled his eyebrows. Phil looked down at the floor and angrily kicked a stone, I wondered what got him so mad.

"No. They're friends." I explained.

"Sorry about earlier by the way. We didn't mean to come across as attacking you, we just didn't want you to run away. We've been looking for you." PJ smiled.

"You have?" I asked, surprised.

"Yes, you see-"

"BOYS!" Jenny yelled, seeing they were all lacking. "You can explain when we get back." She said sternly. Everyone shut up after that. 

When we were about ten minutes away I saw PJ and Chris whispering happily to themselves. I looked at Phil who looked like he was in a daydream. I decided to talk to him, he was really cute and I think I was forming some weird crush on him or something.

"Hey." I said, snapping him out of it. He smiled.

"Hi." He grinned.

"Sorry about pinning you earlier." I apologized.

"It's fine, I didn't mind ... I m-mean - I-I d-didn't..." He stuttered and I chuckled at ho cute he was. "Sorry for barging into you." He said, clearing his throat.

"It's fine." I grinned.

"So ... you don't think your father will kill us do you? I mean we sort of did attack you." Phil asked, looking a little shaken.

"He's just a giant teddy bear really. The worst he'll do is banish you because all he's doing is looking out for me. If I persuade him you should be fine." I smiled. 

"Oh, ok." Phil smiled a little, biting his lip. 

"How far have you guys travelled?" I asked curiously. 

"Well, form where we were based, it has taken about 4 days to fly here." He replied.

"Wow, that's pretty far." He nodded and smiled at me - it was very cute. 

"Alright guys, let's get back to the base. You four will fly there so we can get there quicker. Council members will teleport back. Dan make sure they do not leave, take Becky and Jessica if you have to." Jenny announced - knowing the walk would take too long. 

"Yes sir." I grinned.

"Don't worry Dan, we'll make sure they don't escape." Jessica smirked and stared the other three down. 

"Oh come on, as if they'd be able to stop us." Chris muttered and PJ hit him round the head, earning a giggle from Phil which left me momentarily stunned at how adorable he was. 

"Guys we're just accompanying them, they're guests - not prisoners." I explained and Jessica huffed a little. 

I shifted into my large black dragon, making Becky and Jessica gawp at it - even they hadn't seen it before. "Wow Dan, you even look handsome as a dragon." Becky grinned. I could have swore I saw Phil glare daggers at her but maybe I was just hallucinating. I nodded in the direction of the base and the others caught my drift.

Soon enough there were three other dragons and Becky and Jessica had climbed onto Dan's back.  Dan gave them a look of 'let's go' and four sets of wings beat loudly in the night air.
