Chapter 2: Talented, Are Ya, Lass?

============

When I woke up again, I was in what looked like dragon stables and an old, fat, curmudgeonly man with a prosthetic arm and leg was limping in, pulling a cart behind him with his good hand. I blinked and shook my head, and suddenly I felt very hungry. My stomach let out a loud, very unladylike rumble (though, it was probably fine for dragons) and the old man laughed.

"Good mornin'," he said in a thick Scottish accent, and I instantly knew it was Gobber. "Just woke up from a mid-morning nap, did ya lass?"

I grinned and nodded. Gobber smiled, his underbite making him even more comical to look at. He hooked a honeycomb from the cart with his left hand (a hook) and tossed it to me. I looked at it with a slightly confused expression; I thought Night Furies only ate fish.

"What?," Gobber said. "Not a fan of honey? Strange; Toothless likes 'em, so I assumed all Night Furies did. Toothless likes honeycombs, bread, and crabs as well as fish. I can get you one of those if you prefer."

After that, I decided to try the honeycomb. It was delicious, and I ate the rest in no time. Gobber smiled when I looked at him with huge puppy-dog eyes, asking for more.

"No," he laughed, shaking his head. "I can only give you two each day; one in the morning, one in the night. They help to heal dragon wounds, I've noticed, and I have to give the doses like medicine. When the dragon isn't injured, they work like normal snacks or treats that can be given in any amount and at any time of day. For now, though, you can only have two a day."

I gave him an annoyed glare and sneezed. Then I yawned and stretched. I jumped slightly as I realized I was acting more and more like a dragon.

That's okay, though, I thought. There's no way I'm going home now, and a dragon is my final form of me.

I decided, though, to keep my dragon-esque-ness slightly dulled down by a little modern, human flair. I looked at Gobber and gestured to a charcoal pencil that was in the cart and one of the random pieces of shale that were laying around in the stables. Gobber cocked a confused eyebrow and did as I wanted. He set the shale on the ground in front of me and put the pencil on top of it. I took the pencil in my right paw, and touched it to the shale. Gobber watched with amazement as I drew a picture. I drew a Night Fury, but I tried not to make it look like Toothless. The dragon was sitting atop a spire of rock, and the ocean was swirling below it while clouds poured rain from above. Gobber took the shale and stared at it after I was finished.

"Woah......" He took the shale and walked out of the stables in a haze. I grinned, satisfied to at least be able to draw.

Gobber limped into Hiccup's house, and shouted in a booming, ecstatic voice, "LOOK AT THIS, HICCUP!!!!!" Hiccup jumped, then sighed when all Gobber was shouting about was a rock.

"Waddaya want this time?!," he snapped, his ears ringing.

"Just look at this," Gobber said, handing the shale to Hiccup. Hiccup took the shale in his hands and scanned it, his eyes widening in amazement.

"Who drew this?," he said after a moment.

"That dragon you rescued," Gobber replied.

"What? No!," Hiccup argued.

"Yes, she did," Gobber said. "I watched that graw paw flurry over the rock and create that beautiful work of art."

Toothless sniffed the shale, then looked at it, and had the same reaction that Hiccup and Gobber had. Wow, he thought. Now I know why her name is Paintsplash.

Hiccup blinked and looked at it again. "Astrid has to see this!" With that, Hiccup ran out the door and to Astrid's house.

Astrid opened the door right before Hiccup was about to knock, and crashed into him as she heading off somewhere else. "Hiccup!," she said. "What is it?"

"Look at this," Hiccup replied.

Astrid grabbed the shale and looked at it. "Woah......"

"You know that dragon we rescued a few hours ago?," Hiccup said excitedly.

Astrid cocked an eyebrow and eyed Hiccup. "Yes...," she said slowly. "What are you getting at, Hiccup?"

"Well," Hiccup continued. "She drew that."

"NO!," Astrid gasped. "Dragons can't draw!"

"Now they can," Hiccup replied.

Astrid grabbed Hiccup's arm. "Get a pencil and a sheet of paper," she commanded. "I want to see this for myself."

"So do I," Hiccup said, running home to get what Astrid wanted. Once he got the paper and pencil, he and Astrid ran to the stables.

I jumped when Hiccup and Astrid suddenly appeared in front of me. Hiccup set the paper in front of me with the pencil.

"Okay," he said. "Let's see what you can do." I smirked and picked up the pencil. Within a minute, there was a rough sketch of a Nadder on the paper.

Hiccup was silent as he picked up the paper. "A dragon is a better artist than me....."

Astrid grinned. "Oh well....." Hiccup grinned back. Then Toothless rushed in, followed by a large, bipedal creature with the head of an owl and an ox combined and four wings. Toothless stood on his hind legs and looked at the picture I drew, and the four-winged-owl-ox-thing looked at it as well. Then they both looked at me. Toothless didn't say anything.

"You drew that?," the four-winged dragon said. His voice was deep and had an accent that I can only describe as British.

Toothless glanced at the dragon. "Ah, introduce yourself," he said sharply.

"Oh, yes, sorry sir," the owl-like dragon said. He gave a slight bow to Toothless. Confused, I looked at both of them. Last time I saw Toothless, he was but a teenager, and only significant due to his rarity. Now he seemed to have power over a dragon twice his size, and all of the dragons, actually.

The four-winged dragon nodded to me. "My name is Cloudjumper," he said, his voice rich and smooth, as if he was a nobleman of the utmost importance with exceptional manners. "I am a Stormcutter, and Alpha's right-paw dragon, lass."

I looked at Toothless. "Alpha?"

Toothless grinned. "It's a long story."

Then a tall, fat kid ran in, and instantly I knew it was Fishlegs.

"Hiccup!," he panted. "Meatlug found a huge patch of dragon-root, and Stormfly has already smelled it! I need a large cart so Meatlug can carry away the root before Stormfly gets to it!"

Hiccup nodded. "Right away!," he said. "Astrid, come! We need you to keep Stormfly from getting to the dragon-root! You know how well her sense of smell is..." Astrid nodded and followed Hiccup out the stable. I watched Toothless and Cloudjumper leave, and Gobber handed me a fish.

"Chow down, lass," he said. I ate the fish, then started to feel really sleepy. I conked out, and the last thing I saw was Gobber holding what looked like a splint.
