Elyssa gulped. Her legs wouldn't move. "Forget about escaping. You can't escape a Life Mancer." He pulled the shiny hood of his cloak down, letting her see his face better. He had chocolate brown hair and a neatly trimmed beard. He had a military-like authority about him. "My name is Matthew. Tell me what you know about the Black Mancer. Don't lie to me."

"I don't know anything! I just saw a Mancer in a black cloak! The entrance to Derkesthai Mountain reminds me of it." Matthew became enraged. "You don't just see the Black Mancer! Death comes to anyone who sees them! It is impossible for you to be here!" Matthew was seething. "I saw them in the Twisting Wyrm Tavern. In the Mancer's room." Matthew sighed and rubbed his face. "Are you sure it wasn't just a Dark Mancer?" "He did control shadows." Elyssa admitted. "And they were wearing a black cloak? You're sure?" "Yes." Elyssa said confidently. "What did they look like?" "They had shadowy stuff in their hood. I don't know."

Matthew paled and looked at the hole. "This is bad." He turned to Elyssa. "A cloak changes along with the dragon depending on the element. This is your cloak for the rest of your life, understand?" Elyssa nodded. "There's only ever one Black Mancer at a time. They control death. Their dragon isn't just black, however. Oh, no." He chuckles to himself. "It becomes a spirit. A spirit of death. If you saw the Mancer without his dragon, that is some very bad news." Elyssa hadn't realised she never saw Eclipse's dragon. This was indeed concerning.

"If that's all you can tell me, you are dismissed." Matthew looked at her expectantly, and began to turn away. Elyssa was considering the importance of her last scrap of information. "Wait." Matthew turned to look over his shoulder. "Ecl- I mean, the Black Mancer seemed very nice. I made them laugh." Matthew closed his eyes, an incredulous smile on his face. He shook his head, amused, and walked into a Life Mancer office.

Elyssa found Aaron outside the dining hall, and they walked deeper into the black basalt tunnels.
