The Sand Troll Tale

In the desert land of Fluwit, there lived both Trolls and Dragons. They consisted of Fire, Metal, and Sand Dragons. Now the trolls were entirely Sand Trolls. Regular trolls lived in mountains, but these lived in the desert sand. Well, way below the desert sand.
The trolls mined. That's all they did, day and night. They had a massive network of mines under the sand in a very short time, and their efforts were not wasted.
Way below the hot sun, the trolls dug up strange stones. They were smooth and shimmer a beautiful blue or turquoise color. In the dark, some miners would swear the stones glowed faintly.
Eager to trade their new find for gold, the trolls took some of the stones to the surface. The dragons had already established a home there. They built a castle of sandstone, and small huts were built into the sand partially to brace against sandstorms.
The trolls went to the dragon marketplace, and quickly drew a crowd. The reptilian giants were awestruck with these peculiar crystals, and paid handsomely for them.
Word of these amazingly beautiful rocks got to the Fluwit King. He immediately went out into the marketplace to find the trolls selling their stones.
At first, the trolls were thrilled to see the king. They knew that the king could afford to pay much more gold than the peasants.
But the king was not there to barter. He destroyed their display, and pocketed every single rock the trolls held. The trolls were shocked, and the king laughed and took his treasure back to the castle.
The trolls went back into the mines and reported what happened. Everyone in the mine agreed that revenge could cause many trolls deaths. Dragons were far stronger.
Angry and bitter, the trolls kicked sand over their mine entrances, camouflaging them. The hatches were invisible to the dragons.
The greedy king did not like this. He wanted more stones. The king roared to the floor and stomped his feet shouting.
The trolls were frightened, hidden away in their mine. A few of them wanted to just let the king in, but the others debated that if they let the king inside, he would surely kill them all and take everything, for the king was blind with greed.
They stayed in their mines for years, growing their network and finding huge veins of the rock.
After years of war and hardship, the king died on the surface. The trolls had no way of knowing this however, so they remained hidden.
They would remain hidden forever, constantly mining more and more of this strange rock.
The weirdest thing is... the king had no physical sign of death. He was found in his vault, holding a stone that glowed with a faint red hue.
