Chapter 12

Olympia began to walk back to the Middle Nation, where the witch could never enter, not now that her daughter was dead when she heard the heart whisper.

Remember what I said about love and revenge...

Olympia closed her eyes. She could see her dragon as if she were at the tower with him instead of the outskirts of the Eastern Nation.

"What would you do if you found the witch who cursed you." She asked lazily laying with the dragon one day.

"I would lock her up in the tower."

"What kind of revenge is that?" Olympia asked gazing into the dragons Jade green eyes.

"I wouldn't lock her up out of revenge." He insisted. "I would lock her up because she is a danger to others."

"But wouldn't you want to eat her or something. Wouldn't that be poetic justice?"

"You think the witch will taste good with some mustard, princess?"

"I hear revenge is sweet. Maybe you should try her with some relish." Princess Olympia teased.

"I didn't want to marry the witch because she proved that she was a cruel person. By seeking revenge on me and others she has proven her cruelty. If I sought revenge against her, I'd be no better."

Olympia sighed. Everyone, including the witch, would get their happy ending but her. It would cost her the last piece she had of the dragon.

Olympia used the crystal to cut a slit in her hand and covered it with her blood. Then she tossed the heart into the bubbling cauldron.

"I choose forgiveness over revenge." Olympia said. "Save Cassandra and yourself."

"What!" The witch shouted. "You can't choose to give up the heart, Nicholas has to take it from you."

"Too late." Olympia said. "I forgive him and I willingly give him the last piece I had left of my dragon, so that he can save your daughter."

"No." The witch shouted clutching her heart. As the crystal heart melted so too did she for her spell backfired.

Nicholas quickly spread the potion on Cassandra's back after carefully pulling the knife out. She slowly opened her eyes. "My love."

"Your back." Nicholas smiled. "I was worried."

"I got the heart, did you complete the potion?" Cassandra asked.

"Yes, Olympia gave it to me." Nicholas said.

"Wait, she forgave you?" Cassandra asked stunned as Nicholas held her in a seated position kneeling beside her. He nodded his head in affirmation.

"Where's my mother?" Cassandra asked. Nicholas looked to Olympia. How could he explain what happened to the witch?

"She kind of melted, when the heart did." Olympia spoke up.

Cassandra nodded her head. "My father cursed my mother on his deathbed. She'd tell the story sometimes after licking too many toads. He said that when one who is seeking revenge decides to forgive, my mother would finally meet her end. It's why she tried to trick us into taking the heart instead of outright asking Olympia for it."

"Your mother died because we melted the heart with Olympia's blessing?"

"Precisely." Cassandra smiled.

"Umm, I'm sorry for your loss." Olympia spoke up. "Even though she was a hag." The last part she muttered under her breath and Nicholas couldn't agree more.

"Did you take the potion?" Cassandra asked Nicholas.

"Not yet." Nicholas said standing shakily. "Olympia, it's not too late, if you still want revenge, I won't drink the potion."

"No." Olympia said. "Drink the potion, live happily ever after."

"Well there is still the matter of me being honor bound to marry you." Nicholas said.

"Oh, heavens no!" Princess Olympia exclaimed. "I would rather marry a troll."

"You almost did." Nicholas reminded her with a wink before walking to the cauldron and spooning a ladleful of potion into his mouth.

The potion tasted awful and smelled just a tad better than troll butt. After the first big gulp Nicholas realized that something was wrong with the potion. His body started writhing in agony as sharp pains traveled up and down his spine as if he were being ripped into two.
