I push my black straightened hair out of my face and make my way down the street and towards Starbucks. I need some fucking coffee, because they obviously don't make as strong tea here in Australia as in London.

I walk into Starbucks and automatically go to my seat I always sat at this past month. I work here but it's not my shift yet.

"Hey Mia! (AN: Pronounced Maia) What you doin' here, it's not your shift?" Mel says walking to my booth. "Just here for some coffee..." I answer... All I really want is some strong tea...

"Well, ya know... I could make you some fancy shmancy Brits tea if you like?" Mel asks. I nod excitedly. "God, I wasn't even a British citizen for 2 years and I'm already hooked to that life style..." I sulk.

"Yeah, I mean come on... America was your roots right?" She asks and I nod. "Then tell me why you would move from a hot country with tanned hotties to a gloomy place that has no sun shine and vampire boys?" she asks cocking an eyebrow at me and staring me down.

"Cause... I don't wanna be an American Idiot!" I sing and make guitar noises. Mel rolls her eyes, but chuckles at me when I start making dance movements with my hands and fingers. She goes back to make my Tea and comes back with it.

I practically drool as I take a massive sip of the boiling tea and sigh in delight. Mel looks at me like I've grown a second head. "Didn't that burn your throat? Hell to the nah ah am I ever doin' that no matter how thirsty I am!" she says shocked.

The heat of the tea doesn't affect me... I mean come on... my mouth and throat could take up to 1000 degrees. All Dragons are able to drink or eat hot substances without getting hurt. If I look through my dragons eyes I can see up to 6000 feet away... now obviously... Mel doesn't know this...

"I guess I'm immune since I... Did I tell you that my dad was Native American?" I changed the subject. She gasped "No... no I didn't! How did your parents meet?" she asked curiously.

"Well my mom met him at a party and they started seeing each other, she got pregnant at the age of 16 with me and moved to America to live with my dad. My mom's now a single parent at the age of 34 because my dad died," I finished, leaving out the part that my dad was killed for being a dragon person.

My mom knows about me and my dad and that's why she left with him when she found out she was pregnant. She didn't want anyone to know what I was or that I was different. My mother is from a long line of Dragon protectors and kept dragons alive for centuries. I'm 17 now and my dragon protectors are my mom and my best friend Laya.

Mel sat there awkward. "So I have to go serve the other people. Your shift starts in 20 minutes," she says walking off.

I sit quietly and enjoy my tea. The only reason my mother came back to Australia is because she wanted me to bond with the rest of our family (The Hood's) they took my mother's sister's surname since I'm also a Hood. My family have always kept their surname because they're protectors and the normal dragons remember the surnames of former family's, but most of the dragons have fused with humans and now work as one... like myself.

I was born dragon but my father's family had fused with dragon spirits because they could be trusted and pure. Some dragons and protectors get married and have kids which allow the gene to skip some of the children so they could be protectors.

If 2 dragons meet and have children the offspring are usually just as powerful as those of the protector and dragon line, but if the other half is human then the line is weaker.

I got snapped out of my thoughts when my mother joined me at my booth with my little sister Amy. Her real name is Amethyst, but we call her Amy. She's 8 with brown hair and hazel eyes like my mother. I have my father's brown eyes and blackish brown hair, along with his and my mother's tanned skin.

"You're shift yet?" my mother asks curiously. I nod. Gosh how time flies! I get up and go put on my Starbucks uniform and start taking orders.

A woman and what I assume is her son walks in and takes a seat across my mother and sister. I walk over "Can I take your order?" I ask politely... Who the heck are these people?!

"Mia, can I have a coke?" Amy asks. "Ames, they don't sell coke here... they should... but they don't," I say scruffing her hair up as she pouts. "Then get me some tea, but please don't make it taste as bad as your tea you drank in London, Yuck!" she says making a face and putting her finger on her tongue.

"Yeah alright," I laugh. I look at my mom. "I'll have some black Coffee, sweetie," she says. I make a face and look up at her disgusted. I shake my head and turn it to the lovely lady. "Oh, I'll have a black coffee to, with cream," she says. I hold back the face, but see her son doing the face at her. He looks up to me with his puppy like eyes "I'll have a normal coffee, with extra creammm..." he says smiling like a goofball.

I give them all one last smile and walk to the back, putting in their orders. Soon the booth of 4 had turned to a booth of 5. The new guy looks like he spilled bleach on his hair and it's about to fall out (AN: 5SOS are younger in this book and I have no idea in what order Mikey's hair is, so I'll do it randomly and add colours he never used... if I can-_- :P)

His hair was shocking pink and he was rubbing a spot on his head. I took they're drinks and brought it to them. The pink headed guys looked at me as if I was an alien. "What can I get for you?" I ask. He looked like he was going to say something but took it back almost immediately. It sounded like "You could give me a side of your p-" I almost burst out laughing. If he was going to say what I thought he was going to say then I might have slapped him and then laugh, or laugh and then slap him. I slap him either way so...

"I'll have some tea please," he says looking down His cheeks were tinted pink, and he couldn't hide it since his skin colour is so translucent, and it doesn't help that his cheeks were almost the same shade of pink. He must've remembered the older woman at the table looking at him and scolding him... poor boy.

I laughed once got behind the desk where Mel sat. "He was gonna say pussy wasn't he?" she asked grinning. "Lol, I think so, my mom is so gonna kill him and then stuff him," I say giggling.

"Are you sure that lady is your mother? She looks more like your sister! I knew you said she looked young but not younger than me!" she laughed.

"Yeah, she also never had anything done to her body... I wish I could say the same about your ass," I chuckle. She gasped and threw a pen at me, making me laugh as I retreat with the Vampire guy's tea.

"Thanks," he mumbled giving me an apologetic smile. I nodded and walked back where Mel was playing Nicky Manaj songs softly. She already looks like Nicky Manaj! I shake my head and change the song to the Good Charlotte songs. 'Broken Hearts Parade' stated playing as I sang softly.

Mel watched me in awe, so I stopped "Is there something on me? If there is squish it, burn it and then drown it to make sure it's dead," I say urgently.

She laughs "No gurl, you just have an amazing voice!" she says shocked. "Shut up Mel, I do not, now quite it!" I hissed at her.

She shook her head at me and put on her apron just as 2 more customers come in. Jesus no! I run to the back of the café and hid in the kitchen. Mel looks confused "Um... What ya doin?" she asks looking at me strangely.

"Oh nothing, just hiding from my ex and his brother who stalks me," I say with a smile and turn back to my hiding position.

My ex Jake and his brother Gale that stalks me to no end. I dated Jake for a month before he dumped me because I didn't want to fuck him. I've only been here for a month and a week. I got dumped 2 days ago and I just adore listening to 'Broken Hearts Parade' by Good Charlotte.

I get dragged out of my hiding spot and dragged out of the kitchen by Mel. I go over to my mom's table when Gale slaps my ass, making me twist his arm badly, making him fall to the floor "Don't touch me, please," I ask and walk to the table where everyone gives Gale a glare.

I take all their stuff and take it back to the kitchen. When I got out Jake gave me an unimpressed look and Gale looked at me lustfully. It strange considering that they're twins. I just hope one of them gets hit by a bus, then there's one less sleaze ball in the world.

I gave them what they ordered and made them leave. Yes you heard me, I had to make Gale leave by threatening to call the police and get a restraining order agenised him. Oh I still am, I just didn't tell him.

My uncle could get me the money to get the restraining order so that's settled. "Honey, could I leave Amy with you we'll be back in a few minutes Aunt Joy wanted to go show me a store!" my mom yelled over to me "Okay mom, have fun!" I wave her off.

I noticed that Vampire and Wolfy were standing there shocked. What did I do? Wait... Did my mom just call that woman Aunt Joy? Yup, that means Wolfy is my cousin... OH Joy! 'See what I did there'

Wolfy ran to me "So wait, you're my cousin that's my age... As in, you're Miakoda?" he asked shocked. "I'm Mia, yes," I answer. He engulfs me in a hug. I stand there awkwardly "I'm really sorry about your dad, that must be horrible," he says. I shove him off.

I take off my apron mumbling something about quitting time. I grab Amy's hand and walk out, taking her to her favourite ice-cream place.

We sat at the ice-cream place for a long time now. Unlike me, Amy was born a protector like my mother. Times like these I wish my dad were still alive to teach me things.

It's dark already so I sent my mom a text saying that we'd be late because we went for ice-cream. The ice-cream place had a park right behind it so it was how I kept Amy busy. Her 8 year old self could only stay occupied for so long.

As we walked a guy came out of nowhere and tried to grab me. I hit him between the legs and put Amy on my back as I ran. I turned right, hoping to lose him, but it was a blocked allay.

He had caught up and had a huntsman outfit on. He's one of the people who kill dragons. "So which one of you is the dragon girl?" he asked. I knew that voice!

"Jake, leave us alone!" I yelled. He took of his mask. "Oh sweet heart I'm not Jake, I'm Gale," he spat. Shit I got confused with the two again. "You know what? I'll just kill you both!" he said trying to run over to us.

Suddenly a smallish looking Blue and light green European dragon jumps in front of us and throws fire spit at Gale. Go tiny Dragon dude!

Suddenly a giant Black European Dragon jumps down and picks Gale up with his mouth, biting him with his sharp teeth roughly, and tosses him over the buildings like a rag doll.

My sister, because of her protector's blood tries to protect me, but I shove her behind me. It was windy so they couldn't see me face very well because of my hair flying everywhere.

"That was a close call, girls," the dragon boy says trying to act semi- cool. The large black dragon shakes his head in amusement. "Harry, your brother will kill me if he found out I took you out for dragon training," the black dragon scolds the boy dragon named Harry.

"What about them, we can't just leave them here!" Harry started to argue. While they were bickering I snuck Amy on my back and started to climb the buildings on our sides to get away from them.

"Shit Harry, They escaped!" black dragon yells panicked. I ran with Amy on my back as if she weighed nothing and leaped from building to building thanks to my light bone structure and Amy's lightness.

Suddenly the little blue dragon flew right in front of me as I slipped under his legs and ran off again. The black dragon was gaining on us, when the blue one tried trapping us.

I jump off of the last building and shift into my own Black European Dragon and fly professionally through the small houses to not be spotted while the other black dragon doesn't fly well at all. How is he a dragon teacher?!

I get tackled to the ground by the black dragon as the blue one saved Amy from being a human pancake. She looks so scared, but she had a tough bone and started beating on the black dragon's wing. He pushed her of as if she were merely a feather.

The blue one breaks her fall, stumbling over himself. I let out a dragon chuckle. The black dragon looks over my body. I shove him off in disgust "Get off you overgrown Lizard!" I hissed at him.

I move over to Amy and the Blue dragon. I accidentally scare the blue one so bad that he turned human out of fear. "That..." I say pointing at him "Will get you killed," I stated as I sit next to Amy.

"As if you could stay in your dragon form after being frightened!" the black one says in an amused voice. I shove him away from my face and hold Amy close with my wing, because she was crying.

I bent down so she climbed on and I started walking off to our house. "Where are you going?" black dragon asked. "Home," I answered honestly, hoping he won't follow me like a creep. Wait... Yeah no such luck...-_-

He lifts Harry onto his black scaled back and walks up next to me. "Hi, I'm Harry," the boy said trying to sound cool, and pushes his hand forward to shake my sisters. She looks at his hand and then looks back up to his face blankly. She then turns her head forward and looks far into the distance.

Harry takes his hand back and looks kind of sad. "Told you that I sucked at flirting advice, little man," Black dragon chuckles. Harry kicks him in his ribcage, mumbling 'shut up' making Black dragon laugh. Black dragon's laugh was adorable, it sounded like he was squeaking.

My sister giggled "You laugh funny! It reminds me of an elephant laughing!" she giggles. I laugh at this, scrunching up my face in the process. She watches way too many cartoons!

"What?!" black dragon squeaks as he says this, making me laugh more. I sober up and head in the direction of the forest so they don't follow us home.

"See ya never!" I yell and fly into the forest, making a left turn and flying elegantly through the trees, towards our home. I change back right when the forest ended by my house and run towards it.

We moved to a house near Aunt Joy's house, so I'm guessing Joy's already at our house, calming my mother of her worry of us.

I was right. Mom sat on the sofa biting her nails while Aunt Joy stoked her back comfortingly, but what I didn't expect was to see Calum there too, holding his face in his hands.

Amy runs in yelling 'Mommy!' as I quickly walk upstairs dodging Calum. I'm not in the mood for his bullshit right now -_-

I get to my room and slam the door shut, proving my point. I lie on my bed and play some Good Charlotte on my iPhone out loud. 'Little Things' starts to play and I quickly put it as my ringtone for the week.

I shut my eyes lying like a starfish on my bed and hear the door open. I look up seeing my confused mother come in. "Honey... What happened?" she asked in a comforting voice. I look at her with a bored expression "Nothing... Please leave," I say turning on my side, with my back towards her.

A tear slips through my eye as I sniff; curling into a little ball, holding my Diamond heart necklace, with a boned carved wolf howling in the middle of a carved Dragon my dad gave me as a family heirloom. I cry silently after I hear my door shut softly.

Soon my eyes get heavy as I cry myself to sleep...
