The Wind Serpent
First entry, 9/19/2176.
Dear Journal,
It took what felt like months, if not years, to find this fantastical mythical creature. Or we thought it was mythical. I still find it hard to believe, and I saw it with my own eyes. Hell, we nearly died. Luckily, we had my best friend and grounded team mate, Roche. But you should have seen what happened.
~~~Flashback~~~
I swear, if we climb one more set of stairs, I thought with anger and exasperation, somebody will not live to see tomorrow.
Luckily for me, the guide explained we that we had reached the temple of the Air Dragon, also known as a Dracaeli. The stories told that the dragon was a shapeless creature. Others said he looked like a giant hawk. It seems we will find out soon enough.
"Chop chop." clapped Netsu her dark skin seeming to glow in the heat. Netsu, one of my finest friends, who had been with me since we were just children on playgrounds. Look at us now. Searching for things that don't exist in an ancient Aztec temple. Netsu was a woman with a fiery fighting style, and kick ass looks to go along with it. While she was calm and controlled, her actions can quickly lash out if one isn't careful. That's why we connected so fast, I guess. My curious attitude, never being quite in one place, nor focusing on one thing, seemed to draw me to her. What made her so calm one moment, but a blazing fire the next? Believe it or not, I still haven't quite figured it out to this day.
"Netsu, please slow down. We just finished walking up approximately 10,000 steps, and some of us need to catch a break." Roche exclaimed, brushing his dirty black hair back, panting with the exhausting that was slowly seeping into our bones. Well, everyone except for Netsu, that is.
"Oh quit your whining Roche. We're here."
Gazing forward, the massive structure seems old. Abandoned. But something wasn't right. It wasn't wrong, per se. But something about this place seemed... Off.
As we walk closer to the entrance of the eroded Aztec temple, I notice something in my peripheral. Was that a... a skull? Just as I start to question it, a low rumble makes it's way from within the black depths. Scared? Very. About to run away? Never. Moving fast as a flood, I hid behind a decaying pillar. Netsu, Roche, and the others, noticing that I'm hiding decide to do the same. For peering out of the shadows, dark as squid ink, were two glowing eyes. With scientific curiosity, I took note of something. It seems that the dragon has no pupils, just begging the question how it could see. Considering it was the air dragon, I wouldn't be surprised if the two long horns(at least, from what I've been told) on it's head had an aerolocation ability. To test my theory, I swiftly moved my hand through the air, making sure to fan out the air.
As the dragon emerged, we all saw its true form. In the future, my research would prove why the Aztecs thought the dragon was a god, with it's amazing powers and strange, yet powerful appearance. And so they created the god Quetzalcoatl in the likeness of this beast. The dragon slithered out of its cave, silent as a bat in the night sky, with only the rough noise of scales on stone. It seems my guess was correct, as the creature was moving in my direction. The dragon was the shape of a snake, with teeth so sharp it seemed as if they could cut through the strongest iron. Fur covered the creatures back and tail. And to think. This is the last air dragon in existence. And if we hadn't gotten to it first, dragon killers surely would have.
While I was lost in my thoughts, the dragon took this time to lift itself off of the ground with its enormous wings. It was only then that we noticed the wind picking up. The dragon opened it's snakelike maw, and out rushed the force of a cyclone. The clouds in the sky started to circle around the dragon, backing it up in a gusting halo. Without meaning to, and just by being there, we had threatened the dragon. And now we were gonna pay for it...
Or so we thought. Of course, there was no way our friend Bentuk was going to let that happen. Running faster than any psychologist I knew of, she waved her hands and attempted to gain it's attention. Her plan, although ill thought out in the moment, seemed to have the desired effect as the dragon reared it's head. With it's attention distracted, I took another note. It did have pupils, but they were nearly completely gone from lack of use. Rearing back, it looked ready to lash out with the speed of a hurricane. While all these descriptions of wind are being applied to the dragon may be ironic, it fits.
Oh, right, Bentuk was about to die. And the dragon was closing in fast. Bentuk, still running with her purple hair flinging behind her, was screaming all the way. Finally regaining control of my feet once more, I jumped onto the Dracaeli's tail before it whipped me halfway down the stairs. Whirling around faster than a tornado, it spun in the air with a vengeance. Did the air feel lighter up here? I don't know. I'm getting kind of... dizzy. It dawned on me. The Dracaeli was creating a vacuum, hoping to suffocate me. Looking down, with the floor spinning what seemed to be miles away, there was no thought or argument put in my mind.
If I jump, I die. And I still had at least a good fifty years left, thank you. I started to feel the affect of the wind on my body. My hands were slipping, and I was going to vomit if it didn't stop soon. Not to mention the asphyxiation.
"Hey, you big ophidian! Get your ass back down here." Oh, Roche. My saving grace, I could kiss you! But, I'd rather not. Don't get me wrong, Roche was cute, but. Not my type. The second the creature laid it's eyes on Roche, it stopped. Keeping it's wings out, it slowly glided to the ground. The winds stopped. And the second we hit the ground, I let go, collapsing onto the ground in a semi-coherent heap.
"Tell yer lil drahun friend, that I do not preciate the little ride, I was gen.*" I mumbled through my clenched teeth, blinking rapidly to set the world on what seemed to be it's constantly moving axis.
Roche, having not glanced away from the dragon, was starting to sweat, his normally sandy golden skin paler than usual. Neither him nor the dragon made any move. The dragon glared into his eyes, before bringing it's body up into a regal pose. well, as regal as a snake creature could get. Which, it turned out, was pretty damn regal.
What is your reason for being here? The wind seemed to whisper as a breeze picked up.
Picking myself up off the floor, pushing through the feelings of my queasy stomach, I attempt to answer, "We were hoping-"
Not you, child of water. The wind whipped harshly past, before returning to it's calm breeze once more. Him. The child of the earth.
Roche, glancing at me, seemed to be lacking the confidence he had once had five minutes ago. I would have smirked back at him if we weren't still in the danger zone.
Roche, regathering his grounded aura, replies, "We were hoping to come find the last dragons, before the dragon hunters cam for you first. We were hoping to document some findings-" At this, the wind picked up as the Dracaeli started to coil, it's eyes glowing with venomous light. "We-we wouldn't harm you, of course! We just want to figure out a few things." Roche stammered.
You have my trust, little one. Be careful as not to betray it. The dragon laid down, as if waiting to hear more. Taking one of the lockets from the cartography bag in his satchel, Roche nervously shifted his feet forward.
"Do-do you know what thi-this is?" He questioned, his grounded aura cracking as a slight tremor ran through his body.
It is an enchantment, crafted by your mystical psychologist. The winds growled out. It has the ability to put me in your form as long as I wear it.
"That's right" Hes stammered out. "Do you mind..."
I do not mind. The winds seemed to purr. While I may not have good sense of whether or not someone was annoyed, my sense of danger was immaculate.
And we were going to be fine.
~~~~~~~Time Skip(Cause I'm the author and I have that power)~~~~~~~
"Nice look," I commented, moving the blue hair clinging to my face, "It fits you."
The Dracaeli, as it turned out, was female. The moment she put the locket on, her entire body shifted to a smaller, petite form. But the enchantment did what it was meant to do. Held her rage and true power simmering beneath the surface. Looks can be deceiving. No one knew that better than I did.
~~~Flashback Over~~~
Once the Dracaeli was properly clothed(after Roche mumbled something under his breath while going beet red) she told us where we could find the next dragon. It was time to find the Psychic Serpent. The Dracordo. And something in my gut knew. It wasn't going to be as easy.
AN: Whoo, I think that went pretty well. How about you? If you liked it, pretty please vote for this, and maybe leave a comment?
*Tell your little dragon friend that I didn't appreciate the ride I was given.
