Dawn
It was early morning, very early, almost still night. Yorick climbed on the roof and whistled; a moment later Lutfi took off. The Dragontamer jumped on his back with grace.
- Let's go, my friend - he whispered, patting him affectionately.
While they were flying, halfway from their destination, another dragon appeared in the sky which was becoming clearer.
The air Dragontamer and the water one smiled at each other, and their dragons danced around one another.
They flew side by side, silent, before landing on the beach of Jun's island.
The two lovers sat down on the sand, holding hands. Yorick yawned.
- Are you sleepy? - asked Jun. - You don't have to wake up so early for me...
- But I want to... - protested the boy. - I want to spend every second I have with you.
They laid down. Yorick put his head on his boyfriend's chest, and he brought a hand in his light hair to caress it.
In the sky there still was a moon slice. The water Dragontamer smiled and started humming.
Yorick wished for that moment to last forever: the plash of the waves, the slow heartbeat of the boy he loved, his low humming, the rising dawn, everything was perfect.
He closed his eyes.
- I don't care at all - he grumbled, a bit sleepy. - If I have to, I'll wake up early everyday to come to you. Always... even when I'm old...
He wrapped an arm around his waist. Jun moved just to kiss his forehead.
- I think that by then we won't have to fly from an island to the other - he chuckled. - I wouldn't mind moving. I like my island and I love my parents, sure, but I think that to live my life fully... I need to be where you are.
Yorick yawned again.
- I'll meet you halfway... - he blabbered, before falling asleep. Jun silently kept caressing his hair, feeling happy and peaceful.
***
Mira was playing the flute, sat against Cloud's body. The creature was listening to him, fascinated, and followed him when he got up, while keeping on playing.
Leif appeared behind him and hugged him, kissing his neck.
- Leif - laughed his boyfriend, leaning against him.
- I love seeing you together - muttered the fire Dragontamer on his neck, making him shiver. - And listening to you play...
He sat down, inviting his boyfriend to sit on his lap. He went back to playing the flute, but only after having called his dragon back to him.
At some point he stopped and put his head on Leif's shoulder.
- Leif... tonight I want to go to the cave alone - he announced, taking his hand and playing with his fingers.
- Alone?
- You can... accompany me, if you want. But I want to spend the night there... alone - he repeated. The fire Dragontamer nodded.
- Alright. I'll accompany you with Ruby.
- Maybe... I'll have a dream again about my parents - sighed Mira. Leif put his head on his and caressed his hair.
- Mira...
The Dragontamer took his flute again and brought it to his lips. Leif kept quiet, simply listening to the melancholic melody played by his boyfriend.
Later, that evening, Mira prepared his bag for the night and went out with his boyfriend. They harnessed their dragons and left for the cave.
They didn't talk, during the trip, nor they looked at each other. Mira stayed bent over Cloud's back, his gaze pointed at the destination.
- I'm going to miss you - said Leif, once they landed, faking a smile.
Mira caressed his cheek.
- And I'm going to miss you, too - he whispered, before getting hugged by the blonde. They held each other tight. - Goodnight, Leif.
Their lips met. The fire Dragontamer tried to make the kiss last the longest.
- Leif...
- Can't I stay with you?
Mira shook his head, even though his begging tone made it difficult.
- I'm sorry. See you tomorrow.
Leif nodded, resigned, and kissed him one last time.
- Take care of him - he told Cloud. Then he mounted on Ruby and flew away, but couldn't help but turn around to look at him for a second.
Mira and Cloud followed them with their gazes until they disappeared.
- Let's go, baby - said the Dragontamer, brushing his fingertips against his dragon's soft head.
He went into the cave, immediately followed by Cloud.
It was dark, very dark, without Ruby and his light, but Mira made up for it with a match.
He showed Cloud the drawings on the walls, trying to make her understand that the white dragon was probably related to her. She headbutted his hand to ask him for cuddles.
The Dragontamer gave up on what he was doing and focused on the dragon, before laying down a cover and a pillow and going to sleep. Cloud curled up around him, putting her tail on his waist; it was heavier and thicker than Leif's arm, but it was nice nonetheless.
That night he dreamt about the storm, the one in which his parents had disappeared. Two white dragons would save them before the wave hit the island.
He woke up screaming. It was still night and Cloud looked at him worried, whimpering. He pulled her close and closed his eyes again.
He found himself in another dream: this time the storm was the one which snatched him from his small island. While he gasped in the waves, before losing consciousness, he saw a white figure pick him up from the sea and abandon him on a beach.
He woke up again. The sun was rising. Mira rubbed his face, finding it wet with tears. He sat up.
- Did you save me? - he asked Cloud, but in her big, sincere eyes he found no answer. - Do you think my parents are still alive?
He looked at the feather on his wrist.
It was just a dream, he told himself. Tears started running down again. It was just a dream.
He hugged Cloud, and she rubbed her big head against him, trying to comfort him.
- Let's go back home - he muttered, pulling away from her. For once, the word home made him just sad.
He harnessed Cloud and kissed her face, then got on her back and invited her to take off.
Once they arrived at the island, the dragon flew away again to go hunt. Her tamer tiptoed into the house, hoping to find his boyfriend awake, but still in bed.
Leif was staring at the ceiling, upset. He had slept badly, without Mira, and had woken up very early, unable to go back to sleep.
Some cautious steps of someone who was going to his room caught suddendly his attention.
- I was hoping to find you awake - whispered Mira, sitting on the bed and then laying down.
The fire Dragontamer pulled him close, inspiring deeply his scent.
- Mira...
- You look tired...
- I slept badly - grumbled Leif. - But now that you're here I'd gladly go back to sleep...
Mira kissed his forehead and smiled.
- Sleep, my love - he whispered, blushing a little.
He decided not to tell him about the dreams he had, for he didn't want them to matter. They were just dreams. Even though that was the only way to see his parents, it was too painful. He had to stop thinking about it once and for all, because keeping on torturing himself was useless, it only hurt him.
And when, later on, Leif woke up again, definitely more rested, and asked him if spending the night at the cave had been fruitful, he replied that the dreams he had had were too hazy to remember.
