Chapter ten

(Vikk's POV)

With Preston's directions, Rob drives us to a spot a few blocks away. The car is parked in front of  the GameStop, and we all get out. "Come on! We saw him over here", Mitch says while running ahead. We all chase after him until he skids to a stop in the middle of the sidewalk. "This is where Lachlan ran into Preston", Jerome says. "We need to split up and cover as much ground as possible. He has to be somewhere around here or closer the police station, so I'm going to go look their. You guys need to look around this area and anywhere else nearby", I order. "But you can bearlt walk! How are you gong to look for him?", Rob argues. "Didn't stop me the first time", I say before Turing on my heel and doing my best speed walk. My ankle hurts, but I ignore it in favor of finding Lachlan.

Once I'm a few blocks away from the police station, I start looking around in a few ally ways. If Lachlan has been in the woods all this time, then he probably would try and hide before he passed out. But...... what was he doing in the city anyway? And the police said he crawled in and out of a window. Was he looking for me? I bring my head out of my thoughts and continue my search.

(Unknown POV)

I wake up groggy and disoriented. Where am I? What was I doing? I'm currently wedged between between two hard surfaces. A thick fog covers my brain. I can't think. I dimly take note of a yellow thing that fell off my shoulder. I stumble forward and lean against the surface that I had just been wedged between. I sent the air to smell nothing familiar. It actually smells horrible. My limbs feel heavy, and I just want to sleep. If I'm gonna fall asleep, I need to go somewhere safe. Where's a safe place. I can't smell the forest anymore. Too many other stenches have replaced it.

I push off the wall and clumsily start to walk to the only other place that I might be safe. Some part of my mind still says to not go onto the main paths where the monsters are. It's dark out.............. when did it get dark? The farther I walk, I more tired I get. I can feel myself weakening and loosing consciousness. So close. Almost there. That's when I finally make it. I'm back at Vikk's den. I look up at the opening above me, but can't find any more strength.

I simply crawl underneath a bush and hope that I'm safe as I pass out.

(Vikk's POV)

After an hours of searching, I finally find my first bit of hope. I lean down and pick a small, yellow dart. A bit of blood coats the end. He was here. But were is he now? I start looking all over the ally for places that he could hide. Behind the dumpster I see trash and rotting stuff pushed aside. Could someone have laid there? I mentally measure myself, and it looks about the same size as me. It had to of been Lachlan! Where did he go after waking up? Shouldn't a dart have knocked him out for another few hours? If he woke up, moved, and passed put somewhere else, how do I find him now?

I open a group chat on my phone to Rob, Preston, Mitch, and Jerome. I tell them the address hat I'm at, and that I found where Lachlan might of been a little while ago. They all respond and say that they're coming to me. It's not long before Rob pulls up in the car, with the other three arriving on foot. I show them the dart and the spot with all the trash shoved aside. "I think we need to call it a night. I know that we need to find him, but it's getting really late", Rob says while looking up at the dark sky. As if to prove this, Mitch yawns, and it spreads to Preston and Jerome. "....... fine", I hesitantly agree while getting in the car. We sit in silence while driving home. I hope we can find Lachlan tomorrow..............

We pull up at the house and all get out. I stand in the yard, quickly looking around. "I'm sorry that we couldn't find him, he has to be here somewhere", Preston says. I nod and look around one more time before grabbing his arm when I he starts walking away. "Guys....... is that a leg sticking out of that bush?", I ask all of them. We all stand in a straight line while gawking at half of someone's leg that's sticking out from under a bush.

I walk forward fist and quickly move in from of the bush. Rob comes up on my right, the triplets falling in line on my left. My hands tremble slightly as I quickly shove the branches of the bush to the side. A guy is curled up in a ball except for the one leg. He's wearing worn sweatpants and a ripped hoodie. He's laying face down in the dirt, out cold. The moonlight illuminates his golden hair. I hesitantly reach down and move his head to the side. My breath catches in my throat.

His face in the exact copy of mine. Lachlan.
