Chapter 2
It had been three moons since Visenya had been left alone in King's landing. Her family fleeing to Dragonstone. Visenya felt isolated and alone. Her chambers remained where they had always been, but without the chaos of her family it was quiet. Too quiet, she had always joked about wanting peace and quiet from her brothers but now with them gone she would kill for them to come rushing in and disturbing her. Waking her from her slumber over something stupid.
How she missed them all. News followed not long after they left that the Hand lord Strong and his Son had perished in a tragic fire at Harrenhal. Everyone spoke about how tragic an accident it was, others whispered that it was foul play, an assassination. While others spoke on how it was Harrens Curse. All who lay claim to the castle die in some tragic accident, generally involving fire.
Visenya was there in the small council meeting when the raven arrived, being the King's cupbearer meant she was wherever and whenever he needed her. It was a great honour she would never disagree but ever since she got the title things had been harder for her. Alicent kept Helaena away from her, Alicent was colder and more distant while she was never nice to Visenya, she now only spoke to her when required and only when in the King's presence.
Aegon was lost in his cups too consumed in with his own demons to be friendly towards her, and the one time he did he creeped her out. Aegon was touchy, sleezly informing her that should she ever want to know how things between a man and wife work she need only go to his bedchambers after dark. Or in a random hallway, he had no real preference.
Visenya had heard the talk of the maids and what he would do out his window and it disgusted her. While he could be fun and a nice conversation every once in a while he was not the sort she wanted to associate with.
The small council meetings were horrible for Visenya these days, if she ever spoke up Otto Hightower, the reinstated Hand of the King glared at her, well if Visenya was honest with herself he always glared at her. His hatred was clear. True born or a bastard, the King's favouritism of her was a threat to his plans.
Otto dismissed anything Visenya would say, any opinions she had were waved away. Her grandsire always told her not to pay him any mind. Visenya did not know why he asked Otto back, her mother had once told her the story of how she convinced her father to remove him as hand. Visenya assumed he did it just to appease Alicent, to ensure that there was another green voice on the small council.
Aemond watched as once again Visenya sat by his father at dinner, she laughed with him, spoke about her day, even though the majority was spent with him. He watched as his mother was ignored, his father throwing out vague questions to himself and his siblings but never looking nor listening to their answers.
Aemond began to let his resentment grow and feed off everything he was never given. He was everything his parents had wished for but he was constantly ignored. While he did love Aegon, he also knew that without Aegon he would be mothers favourite.
The room fell silent when a messenger arrived from Driftmark, informing the family of the death of Lady Laena Velaryon. Aemond knew nothing of her besides being the wife of Prince Daemon and the aunt of Visenya. He watched her, she looked upset at the news as did his father. He heard them whispering about how upset her father must be along with her Velaryon grandparents.
Viserys announced that they would sail to Driftmark on the morrow. Aegon and Helaena would fly their dragons while the rest of the family would sail. Aegon was thrilled to hear this as his only other love then drowning himself in cups was being out on Sunfyre.
Visenya and Aemond stood on the ship watching the dragon's fly. Both of them wishing more than anything it was the two of them in the sky. Having a dragon meant no more torment for Aemond. He thought about comforting the girl standing next to him but there were no words. She did not know the aunt that died, nor did he have words to tell her that she would be just fine without a dragon.
Visenya stood with her family during Vaemonds funeral speech for Laenas funeral. Rhaenyra held Jace and Luke close to her while she stood with her father, he was distraught about his sister's death. His grip on Visenya's hand was bordering on painful but she stood their relishing in the pain to be his support system.
Visenya did not miss the digs Vaemond took at her brothers, the suspicious glares he sent her way. Alicent and Otto loved it, he was doing what they wished they could. The lord Corlys and Princess Rhaenys along with Baela and Rhaena were too lost in grief to notice what Vaemond was up to.
Daemon broke up the tension by laughing here and there, she did not know if it was to help her family out by drawing attention to himself or if that is just how he decided to deal with his loss.
Once the funeral procession was over everyone stood around. All the children not knowing what to say to each other. Visenya knew that Jace knew who his true father was and she wanted to say something, but saying anything was treason. He could not mourn his loss and that broke her heart.
She watched her father drowning in grief with not even Ser Qual able to help him through this pain, he retired early to his chambers, just as the king had done.
Visenya watched the dragons fly around Driftmark, all of them landing not too far from their riders. It was the roar filled with sorrow that drew her attention, Vhagar was somewhere on Driftmark. It was said that Laena ordered her dragon to burn her, she knew death was coming and wanted, pleaded for a dragon rider's death.
Visenya thought about claiming Vhagar as her mount. It would only be fitting for her as the first rider of Vhagar was Visenya, the elder sister wife of Aegon the Conqueror. But it was only right that she waited for Rhaena, that was her mothers mount and the last piece of Laena left. She would give Rhaena that courtesy.
Visenya looked for her mother as the day dragged on but she could not find her, nor Daemon. Both of them missing, she watched on as Luke was upset with a conversation with their grandsire Corlys and as Jace consoled the twins before Rhaenys scared him off.
"Sister." Luke hugged her tightly while Jace smiled at her, little Luke was always her favourite so sweet and kind. While Jace acted as her protector like any older brother. "We have missed you dearly sister." Jace also hugged her once they were able to pry Luke away from her skirts.
"As I have missed you two." She ruffled Lukes hair. "It is not the same without you, it is only." Words Visenya would never utter to anyone else. "When are you coming home?" the question was innocent enough but it could've broken Visenya. Luke wanted her home with them but that wasn't her home.
She didn't have a home.
The siblings spent time catching up, the boys telling her stories of little Joff how he is growing and how his egg hatched. While she wished her egg had hatched she was filled with nothing but joy with the hatching of his egg. They needed it more than she did.
The boys shortly retired to their chambers when the maids came looking for them. Visenya stayed out finding relief in the ocean breeze that settled over her skin. The day had been long but she was not ready for sleep to find her.
Aegon was lost to his cups. Otto went in search of him, finding him passed out on the steps. Visenya watched as he kicked the boy and she could not fathom how someone could be so callous to his own blood. With that Visenya decided to retire to her own chambers for the night, she had seen enough misery for one day.
