Chapter 4: Makings of a Hero

Hi guys! For this chapter we had a lot of fun with it. I hope you will feel the same. I don't currently know how big of a focus romance will play in this story, which is why I tagged it as Adventure/Friendship instead of Adventure/Romance, but if it becomes a major part of the narrative, I will change the genre.

Also for voices, Goku Jr's VA (Todd Haberkorn), Vegeta Jr's VA (Jason Griffith), and Cele Leigh's VA (Cherami Leigh)

Now, onto the story.

Fifteen minutes after the practical exam ended, Goku and Vegeta met up with Cele at the front gate of U.A. One look at the wide grin and on the Son boy's face told the demi-Saiyan all she needed to know. "I'm guessing you two did well?"

"Well, it's too early to say, but I'm sure we did!" Goku beamed, giving Cele a thumbs up. "You?"

Cele chuckled nervously and scratched the back of her head. "I'm pretty sure I did enough to pass."

Vegeta eyed her suspiciously and narrowed his eye. "I don't doubt that... but something tells me there's more to this story. Something happened on your side, didn't it?"

Ceke averted her gaze and whistled a jaunty tune. "Maybe."

Goku let out a hearty laugh. "Really!?" He leaned closer and grin widened. "Come on then! Let's hear it!"

"Okay! Okay!" Cele said, waving her hands in front of her. She then cleared her throat, now that she had the boys' full attention. "Alright, so this what happened..."

Flashback...

As Cele eyes scanned the shadowy alleyways, something moved out of the corner of her eye.

"Got'cha!" She called, forming an orb of energy in her hand. "He's mine!"

The three point bot surged forward. Cele leaped forward to meet it in midair, unleashing a devastating blast of energy. The ki blast tore through the bot like a knife on butter. It collapsed on the floor in a charred mess. The wristband on Cele's wrist beeped, crediting her with the three points.

Cele turned back around to see that she was now being surrounded by three two-pointers. "Let's see, three of you and one of me. Oh, what's a poor girl to do?"

They moved in with their scorpion like tails, slashing at Cele, but she leaped forward, effortlessly dodging the swinging appendage of one of the bots. She slid to a stop right in front of it and tos picked it up and flung it into the air.

She quickly moved to the next two. The bots regrouped and before she could reach them, one of the bots leaped just out of range. The whip-like tail swung down, intent on crushing Cele, but suddenly, she caught the bot's tail and, using all of her strength, bent it backwards and pulled, hard. The tail ripped right out, and Cele swung it around like a baseball bat to tear the third bots tail off. "Batter up!"

Defenseless, the bots could do nothing as Cele jumped high into join the third bot.

"Strike 3!" Cele as kicked the bot from the sky and into the others. When the bots collided with one another, they all exploded, and Cele's wristlock chirped, giving her 6 points.

'87 Villain Points. Making progress,' Cele thought as she used a three-pointer like a hammer to crush a one-pointer.

"Wow!" Someone gasped, amazed at Cele's speed and power. "You took down all of those bots in less than a minute?!"

Cele looked over to see...a pair of floating clothes? The voice sounded feminine. Was that her Quirk?

"Oops, sorry, I didn't mean to hog them all for myself." She sheepishly rubbed her head.

By now more of the examinees had caught up and were beginning to fight over the remaining bots in the town square. Out of the corner of her eye, she spotted the green haired boy looking as lost as ever. Cele quickly looked around and spotted a one-pointer coming after him. She hovered to the ground and few towards the bot was chasing them.

"Hey, Izuku!" She called out. Midoriya looked up at her nervously. "Here's one for ya. Get his point!"

Cele ran towards the bot and flipped over it, somersaulting and delivering a hard kick that sent the bot rolling straight towards Midoriya. Midoriya screamed, but couldn't move out of the way.

"Hey, come on! Destroy it before you get hurt!" She yelled but the kid just stood still.

'Oh, crap! Not good!' Cele thought. She formed a simple ki blast in her hand and shot it out. It connected with the bot and it exploded to burning pieces.

"Oops! Sorry about that!" Cele called. "I should've asked first, if you needed some help. Later!"

"That should be at least 88 points. We should probably move over to the outskirts of the city," Cele suggested. "Everyone seems to be gunning for the square so if I go to the little streets far from the center, I'm sure I'll find more bots there."

With that, she peeled away from the pack and went off on her own. She had been right.

The majority of people were focused on fighting in big groups and in wide open spaces. But out here, the streets were narrow, so less people had traveled here. That left plenty of room for targets. Cele landed and immediately, she was met with a dozen or so three-pointers. She then began to go to work, either throwing the bots up high in the air or use it as a battering ram to knock out other bots.

Steadily, her score began to rise, until ne of the bots was able to sidestep Cele and swing back, hitting her in the face.

"Ow!" Cele cried, falling onto her back. The bot mercilessly pursued her with its foot raised like a fang ready to bite down. Cele quickly recovered and jumped out of the way.

She glanced around but there was just no way to fight them one on one. The bots were swarming around her at this point. There was only one way to clear through.

"Let's see if you bots can feel pain!"

Cele performs a series of rapid arm movement, ending with her arms crossed across the chest, before placing her palms forward with the thumbs and index fingers touching each other, forming a diamond shape. She gathered as much energy as she could, channeling it all straight from his core as her body floated just slightly.

"BURNING- ATTTTTACK!"

A large energy sphere shot out from her outstretched palms and slammed into the bots, eviscerated all of the machines immediately, creating a large dust cloud in the process.

With all the bots completely trashed, Cele slowly descended to the ground and looked over her work. "Well, that takes care of tha-"

THUMP!

THUMP!

"Huh?" suddenly Cele was interrupted by the sound of very heavy stomping. Looking around for the source, she soon found something blocking the sun out. Looking up, his expression turned to one of pure shock. She was looking up at what could only be described as a robotic Kaiju.

The zero pointer.

"Isn't that a little extreme?!" Cele shouted in bewilderment as she stood in place and could only continue watching. What the heck was UA thinking?! That think could probably kill someone! Yeah the UA entrance exams would be hard, but they shouldn't be life threatening!

Meanwhile the zero pointer just kept walking forward easily ripping the fake city apart. All the other examinee's screamed and ran away from the giant robot as fast as they could.

The robot then clenched it's fist and cocked it back, preparing to lay waste on the examinees.

"I can't let that thing hurt anyone." She said to herself, her body automatically moving before her brain could keep up, hoping to stop the robot before it could kill anyone.

The Zero-pointer's fist slammed to the earth hard enough to make the entire mock city rock, sending panicked examinees, already scared and running, into an almost animalistic stampede.

Meanwhile Izuku fell onto his butt and kept staring at the zero pointer in fear with tears building up in his eyes. He was stuck. He couldn't move.

Finally, after what felt like an eternity, he managed to turn around try to crawl away. "I gotta get outta here and go after smaller villains!" He panicked as he tried to get away. "I score zero points! I'm not gonna pass as this rate!"

"Less than two minute's remaining!"

Izuku's panicked attitude only worsened on hearing that. Less than minutes were left. There's no way he could get enough points to pass in that short time span. It can't end like this! All his training with All Might. It would all go to waste! It just can't-

"Ngh!"

Izuku gasped when he heard that. The sound of someone struggline...behind him. The same place where the zero-pointer was. Turning around, his eyes widened in horror at what he saw.

The zero-pointer's fist began to rise and it was clear from the way it's was contorting, the machine wasn't responsible. There was a blast of light from underneath the massive robots's hand as Cele poured ki into her muscles, enhancing them, allowing them to force the zero-pointer's fist up off of her. The ground around her feet crackled, groaned in protest it seemed, then shattered under her heel from the pressures Cele was exerting.

(Cue: You Say Run)

Time seemed to have stopped as Izuku stared at the girl. He remembered how nice she was when she met him at the front...and he was going to return the favor.  And so, before he knew what to...

Izuku's legs moved on their own for the second time. Izuku charged towards the zero pointer despite its giant size and power. He not only owed to Uraraka, but it was his job...AS A HERO!

'I can't give up! Not yet!' Cele thought, gritting her teeth and pushing harder.

Suddenly Cele felt a massive energy output and saw something green shoot up to the sky. She looked up at the sky to see-

"Izuku!?" She yelled in surprise. The green-haired teen pulled his hand back into a fist as his sleeve was torn apart. Right before he was about to hit the robot he screamed this word.

"SMAAAAAASH!"

Releasing the strongest smash attack he could make, Izuku punched the zero pointer with all his might. What resulted was the head coming clean off the body and the body to start falling down and falling apart, taking the pressure off of Cele as well.

All the other examinees could only watch in the awe as they saw the boy most of them were mocking earlier had just taken down a robot bigger than a building with a single punch!

"Holy crap! That was awesome!" Cele yelled in amazement, until she then noticed something. Izuku was falling with three limbs flapping in the wind.

"W-wait..Are all three of those limbs broken?!" Cele cried out before her eyes widened in shock at seen the boy now falling. "AH! Izuku! Somebody catch him I think he's hurt!" She shouted. She looked behind for some assistance, only to see that everyone had left. "Some heroes! I hope they all fail!" She then ran toward where he was falling, "I'll catch him myself then!"

She quickly shot into the sky as fast as he could. The scenery blurred by, as Cele flew with incredible speed. As soon as the saiyan hybrid was close enough, she felt Izuku fall into her arms. Cele quickly spun around, trying to cancel out his momentum.

"Cele?" Izuku asked slightly out of it.He noticed that she was holding him bridal style and noticed they were still in the air, which caused the hero in training to freak out. "H-Huh!? Wha- Ahh!"

"Hey, you alright?" Cele still didn't look any worse for wear, even after their rolling landing, his hair was a little fluffier and was lightly dusted with dirt, but otherwise she looked the same as she did that morning when they met.

"Huh? I-I'm fine, just in pain." Izuku said, for the moment forgetting his own pain. "How did you do that?" Izuku asked, amazed, "I've never seen someone with more than one quirk!"

The blunette smiled cheekily as she floated them down to the ground and sat him down. "Nothing special, "I merely just used my ki is all."

"Ki?" Izuku questioned, before shaking his head. Izuku then started to crawl on the ground, moving his body with his one working arm.

"If I can just get one point..." Izuku said while crawling.

"What?" Cele asked in surprise that after all this time, Izuku didn't get a single point!? Before she could say another word...

"Time's up!" Present Mic announced. With that Izuku was brought by to reality before just fainted.

"Izuku!" Cele yelped in surprise before she try to check up on him. She then started to shake his back.

"Hey, are you alright?! Izuku?!" She then turned him over and put her ear to his chest hoping that he was still breathing, and to her relief he was. With a sigh of relief, she sat down taking a moment to rest. "Can we get some medical help here!?"

All the other applicants seemed to gather around, looking amazed at what they saw. They began to wonder about him, curious as to why someone with his power couldn't score any points on this exam.

"Very nice, good work all around," an old nurse lady said, walking into the area. "You're heroes in my eyes, every one of you." She then offered some candy to some applicants, many not knowing who she was, aside from Yuga Aoyama.

"That mademoiselle, she's the heart of UA," the flashy applicant said.

The lady then approached Izuku. "Oh my goodness." She turned her attention to Cele, "Was he hurt this badly by his own quirk young lady?"

"Yes, it looks like it," Cele said. "I really don't know what happened, one minute he's on the ground, the next he's knocking out that giant monster...which should really be worth points, just saying."

The nurse lady paid little mind to Cele's last comment, instead focusing on Izuku. "It's as though his body can't handle his own power."

"You'll be able to help him right?" Cele asked.

"Of course, just stand aside," the nurse said, which Cele immediately obliged.

"So are you going to get a-" Cele was suddenly freaked out by what she saw next, this old nurse stretched her lips out to kiss Izuku on the head. "What the heck is she doing!?"

"You're watching a school nurse in action," Yuga said. "The youthful heroine, Recovery Girl."

'She doesn't seem so youthful,' Cele thought, then noticed Izuku's arm and legs contorting back to normal. "Wow."

"As you can see, her quirk is a incredible boost of healing power," Yuga explained. "She's the only reason UA can hold these reckless exams. She is saving him months of recovery time, quite marvelous."

Cele looked surprised, Izuku's arm and legs look like they hadn't taken any damage at all. "At least he'll be ok."

Yuga turned to Cele, "Tell me madam, this boy, is he your lover?"

Cele blushed at the question, "Uh no, I just met him today, along with my brother and friend when we came to Japan today."

"A trio from afar? From what I can guess from your appearance do you too come from another part of this glorious world?" Yuga asked.

"Yeah, I'm from West City. Name's Cele Leigh" Cele said. "My brother is Vegeta Leigh."

"Oh! Magnifique! Heirs from the glorious Capsule Corporation!" Yuga said. "Your prescene honors us."

"Uhhh, nice to hear," Cele said.

"Your friend, is he also from West City?" Yuga asked.

"No, he's from Satan City, have you ever been there?" Cele asked.

"Oh no, how I wish to go there someday however," Yuga said. "That is the home of the Legendary Hero, Hercule Satan. Tell me, has your friend ever heard of him?"

"You can say that," Cele said. "If you pass the exam, because I'm quite confident my brother and friend did, I'm sure he'll tell you all about his life in Satan City."

"....and that's what happened on my end" Cele said, finishing her story as she and the boys were walking down the street from U.A

Vegeta looked mildly disgusted at that last part while Goku looked confused. "Huh, I didn't know there was a hero that could heal people by kissing them." The Son boy spoke up.

"Yeah!" Vegeta agreed, "It sounds disgusting when you put it like that..."

"That's what you idiots got from that!?" Cele exclaimed. "I'm talking about the power I sense from Izuku!"

"Ohhhhh," Goku and Vegeta said together.

The blunette merely facepalmed. "Look, all I'm saying is that the power I sensed from him during that brief time was higher than anyone else in our battle center. But it seems to take a toll on his body, hence why he's arm was broken so badly."

"Why am I getting Deja Vu thinking about self destructive attacks?" Vegeta asked no one in particular

"Hmm...well, either he's not used to his power yet or he's never had someone teach him to harness it." Goku hummed outloud. "Still, it kinda sucks he didn't get any points in..."

"Guess he didn't deserve to get in then," Vegeta snidely remarked

"Don't say that!" Cele scolded him. "When everyone else ran off, he stayed behind and helped me! Besides, since this was an exam, I'm sure that means judges were watching and saw what he did."

"In that case he'll likely get in," Vegeta said.

"What do you mean?" Cele asked, "You just said he didn't deserve to."

Vegeta sighed, "Think about it, he did something that they would likely consider heroic and brave, this is a hero school. He's more than likely getting some points"

"Hehe!" Goku laughed, folding his arms behind his head. "I guess that's true. I wanna see this power of his up close. If it was strong enough to take down that robot with one hit, then he's gotta be really powerful."

"He sounds like his body is made of something weak," Vegeta said, "Like paper mache, or Raditz"

"I don't what 'Raditz' is, but it sounds disappointing." Cele remarked. "Anyway we should be heading home now."

"Fine. Last thing I want is to be on the receiving end of mom's wrath mad." Vegeta said as he floated into the air.

"Hey, you're supposed to flying around Vegeta!" Goku told him, watching as the Leigh heir was already flying away.

Cele look at her brother flying away and just sighed before taking a caspule from her pocket. She then pressed the button on it and tossed it onto the floor.

Soon enough in a burst of smoke A second later there was a sound "poof" and there stood a large, yellow plane with the symbol 'Capsule Corps' on its side. She may have been a genius and a powerhouse, but she still had some respect for the law.

"If you get caught, it's on you!" She called out, before looking over at Goku. "See ya, Goku! Say hi to Miss Pan for me!"

"Yo got it!" Goku waved her off with a grin. "Give my regards to Bulma!"

"Will do!"

With their farewells done, Cele hopped into the plane and took off like a rocket after her brother.

"That's Caspule Corp for ya" Goku thought out loud. "Guess I'd better head out too. Nimbus!"

Heeding the boy's call, the magical floating yellow cloud quickly arriving down from the sky. He then hopped on to the cloud and shot into the sky, heading for his destination.

"Next stop, home!"

One Week Later...

The previous seven days had seen Goku juggle between his studies, training and his vigilantism in Satan City. He tried to keep himself as busy as possible in order to avoid thinking about the wait for his results.

Something that had been bothering him since the day of the exam. Even if he passed, would he still be in the same class as Vegeta and Cele? Maybe Izuku and Ochaco as well? Goku had no way of truly knowing. All he could do now was wait.

On the day his results would arrive, Pan had sent him out to Satan City to once again by groceries for dinner. After purchasing the goods - as well as taking a brief detour as the Golden Crusader - Goku had returned home to find his grandmother and a rather plump older looking boy seated at the table in main room.

"Yo Goku!" The boy waved upon seeing the saiyan hybrid enter the room.

"Puck!" Goku said, surprised to see his old friend. "What are you doing here?"

"I heard you were applying to U.A and I wanted to know how you did," Puck said as he and Goku shook hands.

"Really? Thanks!" Goku grinned, before perking up at something. "Wait, so did the results come in yet?"

"Sure did." Pan replied, holding up a sealed envelope with the symbol of U.A. "We wanted to wait you for you to come home, Goku, so we can open it together."

Goku sat down next to his grandmother and took the envelope from her. For some reason, he could feel his hands tremble as he slid his fingers through the open gap. Why was he so nervous? He was confident that he had been accepted.

He opened the envelope, and to his surprise, found a small disk with a round blue button on the top. 'Huh? A button?' Goku thought as he placed it on the table and pressed the button. He was caught by surprise when a holographic projection of All Might sprang to life. The number-one hero wore a striped yellow suit and a red tie, his face flashing with a wide grin.

"Oh man, it's All Might!" Puck shouted, eyes widened in awe and mouth dropped opened.

"Never fear," All Might bellowed, striking a triumphant pose. "For I am here...as a holographic projection in your home! As the newest member of U.A.'s faculty, I felt it was appropriate to personally congratulate you, Son Goku Jr, for your exceptional performance in the Entrance Exam!"

Goku's eyes widened in surprise. All Might was going to be a teacher at U.A. High School? A million questions ran through the half-saiyan's head, though he pushed them to the side as the hero continued to speak.

"First, before we get to the results of the practical test, I must commend you on your results in the written test. Not only were you one of the highest-ranking student amongst the examinees, you were the only one to score a score of ninety- six percent! Excellent work, young man! A hero who sharpens his mind as well as his body will always succeed."

Goku smiled. As he had hoped, he had done well on the written test. His grandmother looked ecstatic at the news.

"However, as you probably knew, admission into U.A. relies heavily on your performance in the practical test. You were judged based on the amount of points you earned from destroying those villain bots. However, as you may have suspected, there was also a hidden component to the exam. You see, we weren't just watching to see who could take down the most villains and amass the most points! While that was indeed a factor in who passed and who didn't, we were also keeping track of each examinee's rescue points!"

Rescue Points? Goku's eyes widened in understanding as he recalled what Cele told him and Vegeta the previous week.

"When everyone else ran off, he stayed behind and helped me! Besides, since this was an exam, I'm sure that means judges were watching and saw what he did."

Of course a hero academia would judge a person on those that they rescue. Goku had been so anxious to finish the Entrance Exam that he had no thought on Present Mic's presentation. If he had, he might have suspected something was amiss.

'Wait, that's why they probably didn't warn us. Goku thought. They wanted to see the students who would genuinely help others in need without the prospect of reward. That's brilliant!

All Might continued, seemingly pointing towards the half-saiyan "Son Goku Jr, I am thrilled to announce that not only did you rank atop all the other examinees, you have also broken the all-time points score at U.A. High School! With a whopping 97 Villain Points and a staggering 60 Rescue Points, your total score of 157 has narrowly beaten that of my own, as well nearly doubling that of second place. I must thoroughly congratulate you on your results, my boy. You have rightfully earned a place at U.A. High School."

All Might began to wave his finger. "Your exceptional results do not give you the right to be complacent, however. While you should be proud of your accomplishment, the school year had yet to begin! There are many trials and tribulations to face! However, as your teacher, I look forward to aid you on your journey to become a professional hero! Welcome to U.A., Son Goku Jr!"

The top-ranked hero in Japan gave a final thumbs up, before the projection cut off, leaving Goku and the others to sit in utter silence.

Well, at least Pan anyway. Fill with some much happiness, Wade threw his fists in the air and shouted at the top of his lungs. "YYYYYYYYYYEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEESSSSSSSSS!"

Puck leapt from his chair and cheered happily. "This is awesome! My buddy is gonna be a superhero like All Might!" Puck wrapped his arm around Goku's neck as they both jumped out in excitement, laughing and crying in happiness.

"Oh honey, this is wonderful news! I am so proud of you. And I know your father is too," Pan clasped her hands together, and went to the kitchen. "I'm gonna call Bulma right now and tell her what's happened. Afterwards, I'll make you your favourite dinner dishes. Anything you want, just let me know!"

"Thanks, grandma!" Goku said in response. He couldn't believe that he had made it into U.A. He was going to be a real hero.

Puck eventually took himself off his friend, allowing Goku to stand up straight. He was surprised however to find that the projection of All Might had been replaced with a still-frame of a ranking board.

Rank 1: Son Goku Jr Villain points: 97 Rescue points: 60

Rank 2: Vegeta Leigh Villain points: 97 Rescue points: 59

Rank 3: Cele Leigh: Villain points: 90 Rescue points: 58

Rank 3: Izuku Midoriya Villain points: 20 Rescue points: 60

Rank 4: Genji Villian points: 80 Resuce points: 53

Rank 5: Katsuki Bakugo Villain points: 77 Rescue points: 0

Rank 6: Eijiro Kirishima Villain points: 39 Rescue points: 35

Rank 6: Ibara Shiozaki Villain points: 36 Rescue points: 32

Rank 7: Itsuka Kendo Villain points: 25 Rescue points: 40

Rank 9: Ochako Uraraka Villain points: 28 Rescue points: 35

Rank 10: Tetsutetsu Tetsutetsu Villain points: 49 Rescue points: 10

As he scanned the names, Goku was delighted to see that Vegeta, Cele, Izuku and Ochaco all made it to the top-ten. Apparently so did Izuku's classmate Katsuki Bakugo, who had no resuce points at all.

Tonight, not only they celebrated Goku's achievement, but this also marked the beginning of Goku's road in the most important hero academies of Japan, and his journey of becoming one of Earth's new defenders.

That ends Chapter four. Hard one to write, mainly because of the length. Wanted to get Entrance Exam Arc done. Quirk Apprehension Test is up next, and it probably won't be as long as this one.

Let me know what you think.
