Chapter 10; Frozen

The wind flew wildly on my cold body, and my hair blew with it. My arrows rattled around in their case and I wondered how they hadn't fallen out yet.

My arms had gone numb and they grew goosebumps. I looked down at the trees covered in snow and ice. The wind must've carried tiny pieces of ice as they scrapped across my face.

I looked up at the blue and white dragon now. Its blue eyes looked straight ahead.

How would I get down from here? We had been flying for at least two hours.

And I didn't remember my way home anymore. I looked ahead of us as the snow cloud began to clear in the distance. There was a mountain. Perhaps it would take ten more hours of flying. I hadn't noticed it before. I never had to come so far from home. I felt lost. I was lost. If I tried to get down I'd fall for a long time before I crashed into the ground. There was no way I'd survive it.

Another hour or two passed. It was hard to tell through the gathering snow clouds. Little pieces of snow flew from the clouds and landed in my hair.

I couldn't help a smile. It looked so different from up here. But as time went by, the clouds began to turn grey and the sun was barely visible anymore. The snow that I once smiled at, flew wildly past me and the dragon. The wind whistled in my air and the temperature dropped dramatically.

There was a snow storm coming up.

I closed my eyes and flipped my hair over my face to protect it from the wind, but my hair was quickly blown off my face. I could feel the snow and ice gathering on my face an in my hair.

I opened my eyes as we started to go down. The dragon seemed to be trying to get lower to the ground.

When the time was right I'd escape.

The mountain in the distance wasn't as far away anymore but was harder to see through the thick snow clouds.

My legs were only about five metres from the thick, snow covered ground.

I quickly slipped my left arm from the dragons grasp, since after all this time it seemed to loosen grip. I dragon snapped its head towards me from my sharp movement. I grabbed my dagger from the left side of my belt and stabbed it into the top of its left foot.

The giant dragon roared in sudden pain and released me from its grasp.

I yelped as I fell quickly onto the snow. Luckily I done a cat roll to soften my landing. I looked into the sky and saw the dragon fly off as it roared in pain.

I stood up to run into the cover of the trees, but quickly tripped on the thick snow my feet had gotten stuck in. I tried again but the wind blew me back down.

I decided that wasn't going to work. So I began to crawl across the thick snow, my knees and hands sinking as I went.

The wind continued to try and push me over, and I eventually found myself crawling on stomach and forearms, with my legs dragging behind me in the snow. My whole body had gone numb from the cold by the time I found shelter.

It was a large, leaf covered branch that seemed to have fallen down from the weight of all the snow on it. I crawled underneath it and sighed in relief as the constant blowing of wind and ice on my body had decreased. I sat with my knees on my chest and my arms wrapped around my legs to keep me warm. I looked up at the sky but quickly looked away as a snowflake landed in it. I rubbed my eye to relieve the pain. I finally opened my eye and squinted it in pain. I may have to wait out this snow storm for a long time. I rested my chin on my knees and closed my eyes.

Why is it always me? I asked myself.

🐉

My eyes slowly opened, my eyelashes were frozen together with ice.

I lifted my cold hands from the snow and rubbed my eyelashes until they were free to open.

I opened my eyes and looked at my surroundings. Every tree was covered in snow and ice, some trees were blown over and covered in snow too.

The sky was clear and the sun was out.

I crawled out from under the shelter of the fallen tree branch. The snow was melting under my hands and knees.

I stood up and tried to dust the snow off my clothes, but just ended up melting it into the material. I sighed and cold misty air blew out of my mouth.

I began walking to I don't even know where. My shoes made prints in the snow as I went. I looked at the ground for anything familiar, any type of clue to lead me home.

I spotted something shiny under the snow and slowly walked up to it, hugging myself for warmth. I put my hand into the snow and grabbed it.

It was my dagger. The blade was covered in frozen blood. I slipped it into its case and kept on alert.

My closed shoes crunched in the thick melting snow. But something caught my attention. Someone else was crunching in the snow as they came closer to me.

As I hugged myself, I began to run from whatever was hiding in the snowy trees.

But once I began to run, so did they.
