Chapter 3: Arrogance Follows *
Mornings birds are mostly the time I wake up. I suspect Lucy and Ashen to be asleep. I walked out of the room and check on them. Apparently; their not, they're awake.
"Sylvia! Sylvia! Sylvia!" Ashen skips up to me cheerfully.
I ignore him and look ahead of me and shout, "Lucy, get your butt over here!" She ran towards Ashen and me. She might be eleven, but she can't be alone inside an abandoned castle.
"Okay, you deux, I want you to stay in your rooms until I come back," I order. I walk past them and head towards the exit.
"Sis, where are you going?" Lucy asks, stopping me in my tracks. She holds the tall door made of old wood.
"Going out there to see that I can steal some loot and food. You better not say anything to anyone unless you want your sister to be arrested!" I warn her sternly.
"Be back soon, Sylv." Lucy backs away and heads back into her room. She slams her door shut. Finally, silence.
I head out to see the ciel matin. (Morning Sky.) It's beautiful; birds flying and singing freedom. The sky painted light blue and the light from the Sun shimmers onto my hair, which makes it shine bright gold.
I walk on the stone road that's been here since ancient times. Few people walk on this road because it's just the tip of the borders of Paris.
I didn't notice until now that it seemed to be windy; hence, blowing down cool air. Goosebumps sprout out from within my flesh. I look down while hugging myself trying to keep the woman.
Bam! I crash into someone. "Oof!" I grunt while I lose my balance; falling onto my butt.
"Watch where you're going!" They shout. It's a girl with very long blonde hair wearing a grey winter hat and a brown jacket.
"Sorry, wasn't paying attention." I apologize whilst I got back up. "I just lost my balance."
"Yeah, right." The blonde woman spat. What a jerk! Why are people so rude these days?
"Look, I didn't see you there and I crashed into you and fell on my ass, which doesn't mean you can be pissy." She starting to really get on my nerves.
"You probably purposely just to steal money from my pockets," she says with a smug grin. "I know who you are and you are not stealing from me."
"Don't accuse me," I bark. "I am homeless now along with the kids."
"Ashen and Lucy ain't your kids, they belong to Sidney Norman, your mother."
"She's dead!" I growl. "She couldn't afford to pay the rent, anyway."
"Uh-uh!" She shakes her head, doubting me.
"She hung herself two days ago!" I raise my voice while getting more pissed off by the second.
"Stop begging for unwanted attention. You only just want sympathy and money for your kids, which you don't deserve," she warns with a hint of warning.
My rage hits me again. I don't want to explode right in that blonde girl's face.
"Hey, I can hear your lack of French accent. I can sense that you're a naive American immigrant. You should not believe the gossip." I informed while holding my fury. I turn my back against her; prepared to walk away.
"Eeek!" I heard the blonde girl let out an animalistic shriek. I spin around and saw her laying on the ground. I ran to her and saw two bloody holes around her neck. The blood is going onto the road. Out of the corner of my eyes, I saw a shadow dashing away from my view. Probably the figure did it; therefore, rage replaces with fear.
I look around but found nobody to be in sight. Unnerved, on edge, spooked out, I turn around and started running back to the castle.
I burst open the castle door. I open Lucy's and Ashen's doors. I check each one of them. Where are they? They aren't there. Great.
"Oh, come on!" I groan. I throw my fist against the cold hard stone wall.
"Lucy! Ashen!" I call out. No response. It is pretty quiet.
"Lucy! Ashen!" I called out again, more scared. Only my cry is echoing throughout the hallway.
"LUCY! ASHEN!" I scream at the top of my lungs. My voice bounces off the walls of the castle. No response again. With the terror that I lost them, I decided to find them. And FAST!
