And he isn't any normal human either, he was Samuel's student and apprentice long ago(30 years give or take), but their relationship was slowly going downhill and he decided to go off on his own. He eventually got married to a woman named Rosaleen.

And had a daughter named Hanamei

(That's right, Kozuru's soon to be love interest is Syler's daughter)
