Chapter Seven
‘Hermione, wake up,’ a voice said and gently shook the sleeping girl.
Hermione’s head was throbbing to say the least. She tried to mumble a legible response but it sounded like a foreign language to her and probably also to the person trying to wake her up.
‘Hermione, it's time for breakfast!’ the voice persisted.
Hermione opened one eye to see Ginny standing with her arms on her hips in a very Mrs Weasley like fashion, before the sunlight bombarded her vision. It went straight to making her head ache and she closed her eyes again, hoping Ginny would leave.
Ginny sighed, loudly, making Hermione frown but she couldn't be bothered opening her eyes.
‘This is so unlike you! Get up!’ Ginny said and pushed the covers off of her, revealing a purple night dress that she didn’t remember putting on last night.
‘Right, I'm up!’ Hermione said sitting up, she clutched her head, trying to stop the pain.
‘Here, take this. It works great.’ Ginny handed her a small tablet which was glowing a bright shade of yellow. How the brightness was supposed to help her headache, she had no idea.
‘My mother told me not to take drugs,’ Hermione chuckled.
Ginny rolled her eyes and went to finish getting ready. Hermione, trusting Ginny, swallowed it and sat at the edge of her bed. She got up and got ready after saying a thank you to Ginny.
‘Merlin’s beard, Hermione, you didn't have to drink that much!’ Ron exclaimed as Hermione told him how much she drank last night.
They were eating in the Great Hall, which was clean and spotless, almost as if there wasn't a party last night. Now Hermione felt the relief begin to seep into her after taking the glowing pill. She reached for some toast and coffee.
‘You're lucky no one told McGonagall about this. You're head girl!’ Ginny said, biting into a piece of Harry's toast.
Hermione was stunned at that thought. She hadn’t even thought of her responsibilities before drinking like that last night. How could she be so irresponsible? Hermione felt a fear dawn onto her, making her toast suspend its way to her mouth.
‘Hermione, it's okay, at least you broke out of your comfort zone in the last year of Hogwarts and you did something crazy. Come on, you needed this.’ Harry said, trying to make her feel better.
‘I guess. But I'm not drinking ever again!’ Hermione cried, holding her head in her hands while Ron laughed at her, ‘Shut up, Ron!’
Hermione slapped him on his arm but Ron only smiled, infuriating her even more. They didn't always get on but she liked him a lot. Love? She wasn’t so sure about that. Sometimes Ron did annoy her and makes her so angry that she reconsidered their relationship. But that was normal... right?
‘So guys, what are we going today?’ Ginny asked, looking at Hermione in particular.
Hermione shrugged as did Harry and Ron.
‘I need to put my dress back in the cupboard.’ Hermione said, getting up, ‘I'll meet you guys in the common room.’
They mumbled an okay and she left for the Gryffindor common room. She got her dress and walked back to the Head's dormitory, trying not to look at the very hung over seventh years on her way.
Walking into the Head’s dorm, Hermione saw Draco. He always seems to be there. Sitting on the sofa, reading a newspaper or a book. This time, he was reading a book with his feet on the table in front of him.
He looked at her, eyes widening, when she walked in carrying the dress. Hermione attempted a smile, but stopped at the look on his face when the memory hit her like a full force wind.
She kissed Draco...?
Hermione remembered being taken away from all of the noisy music. She had been very excited to meet Draco again and... she had leaned in to kiss him. Her cheeks turned red but she couldn’t take her eyes off Draco. Hermione nervously moved forward so that she was standing in front of him. Draco froze, staring at her, unsure of what to say.
Hermione thought about the kiss. She remembered the taste of his lips. They tasted like... green apples (A/N drapple!). She liked it. No, she loved the taste and remembered wanting more... but she stopped herself, thinking of Ron.
Ron.
She had completely just cheated on him with no second thought. Her heart beat even faster and she tried to tell herself that Ron had gotten her drunk in the first place. She had no idea what she had been doing! And was Draco drunk at that time? She couldn’t remember.
‘Draco... Say something. Don't just look at me like that,’ Hermione choked out, her voice sounded hoarse.
Hermione coughed, trying to clear her throat, and get back her normal voice. Draco just stared at her, making her want to leave the room but of course, Hermione stayed. She was a Gryffindor, she didn't run from problems like this.
‘Draco... I... I'm sorry for last night,’ Hermione muttered when Draco didn’t say a word. She couldn't say that she kissed him, she just couldn't get the words out.
Draco's grey eyes suddenly turned hard and cold. Turning into a solid grey that Hermione most definitely didn’t like. She tried not to wince at that and kept her ground, wondering why he was so angry suddenly.
‘You're sorry? Is that all?’ Draco asked, whispering.
Even his whispering sounded too severe. It sounded too much like his old self, Hermione thought.
‘Draco... I don't know what you want me to say,’ Hermione said, but instantly regretted it.
Draco's eyes turned harder, if possible, and suddenly his face was so close to hers, she could feel his breath. She hadn’t even noticed him get off the sofa, he was that fast. His fists were balled up but stayed at his sides.
‘I want you to say that you liked it. That you liked kissing me!’ Draco glared at her, his hands shaking now. He wanted her to know his feelings but he wanted her to feel the same feelings back. Was that too much to ask for? He loved her!
Hermione was totally shocked. Her shock and fear wouldn't allow her to move an inch, even though she wanted to make some space between them. She hated seeing Draco this angry and wanted to say something to calm him down.
‘I...’ Hermione shook her head, pulling back a little. She felt like she was about to cry or something.
Her eyes stung, holding back tears. She couldn't wouldn't cry in front of Draco just because he was angry. She wasn’t that sort of girl. She had paralysed death eaters without crying so she would get through this.
Draco looked at her and his eyes softened, he touched her face with his thumb.
‘Don't cry,’ Draco whispered, looking into her brown eyes.
Hermione stared into his eyes and she knew, right there, how much this boy truly cared for her. She knew if there was another girl in her place, Draco would just leave and ignore her but he wouldn't do that to her.
‘Draco...’ Hermione whispered, touching his face, lightly, with the tip of her fingers.
Draco closed his eyes for a second, enjoying her touch. He opened his eyes and stared at her for a few seconds then slowly moved his lips forward, giving her time to pull back.
Hermione didn't pull back, instead she pulled him forwards. They kissed for the second time. Their lips moving together and slightly parted. All thoughts of Ron left her mind as Hermione tasted the apple flavour on his lips. She licked his bottom lip and felt Draco smile against her mouth.
Draco grabbed the hair at the back of her neck with one hand and the other was placed at the small of her back. He deepened the kiss, flicking his tongue into her mouth she moaned slightly, making Draco smirk.
He had never seen this side of Hermione before.
Draco pulled back to look at her, for a moment, they stared at each other then Draco kissed her softly, three times.
‘Draco,’ Hermione whispered, pulling him forward, so that his chest was pressing against hers.
‘I love when you call me that,’ Draco whispered, into her hair, kissing it.
He felt rather than saw Hermione smiling, her head on his chest. They stood there in each others embrace for a while, Hermione tracing patterns on Draco’s chest while he played with her brown hair, knowing no one would understand this but who could explain their feelings for another person?
Hermione pulled away reluctantly and sat on the sofa, pulling him down too. Draco looked at her, his eyes staying on hers. He played with a strand of her hair.
‘I know you love him,’ Draco said, talking about Ron.
‘I don't love him,’ Hermione said, sounding very confident about that fact. If she had to compare her kisses and feelings with Draco and Ron, she would choose Draco. Even though they had only been together for a short time, there was something between them that she couldn’t ignore.
‘You don't have to choose over us.’ Draco said, sighing briefly.
‘What do you mean?’ Hermione asked.
‘I mean, that until you are able to choose between us... I'll wait for you,’ Draco said, his eyes softer than before.
Hermione smiled at his sweetness. Something about him made her smile. He was cute, good-looking and she loved kissing him.
‘That's cute.’ Hermione said and leaned in to kiss him.
‘Maybe we should stop the kissing until you make a final decision?’ Draco suggested, pulling away.
Hermione looked at him for a second. Then she grabbed him and kissed him, determined for that apple taste, making Draco smile for the hundredth time.
‘I have to go,’ Hermione said, pulling back hesitantly, remembering she was to meet her friends in the common room.
‘No.’ Draco shook his head, grabbing her waist and pulling her towards him, ‘stay here, with me.’
‘I'll tell them I had Head Girl duties,’ Hermione whispered in Draco's ear, hesitating for only a second... Just a small second.
‘Who would've thought. Hermione Granger and Draco Malfoy?’ Draco said, raising his eyebrows.
Hermione looked into his eyes, ‘I’m glad I got drunk. Really, I am.’
