Chapter Nineteen
The news of Draco and Hermione’s sudden engagement spread quickly, like wild fire. A muggle born and pure blood. Draco and Hermione. They faced different reactions.
Mr Granger was happy after he had a talk with Draco. Mr and Mrs Weasley, Harry, Ginny and George were happy if Hermione was happy. Percy still had a problem with Draco and Hermione which was to be expected. Ron was happy too; he had told Hermione he liked a girl called Joanne. Narcissa was as excited as any mother could be for her son.
‘Hermione! We need to get you a dress! We need to plan! We-’ Ginny looked at her frantically, thinking about the lack of time they had.
Hermione had apparated to the Burrow to tell them the news, an hour after Draco proposed.
‘Two weeks aren't enough!’ Hermione worried, looking at Draco who was lounging on the sofa, ‘why exactly do we have to get married in two weeks? How are we supposed to sort everything out in time? Draco... two weeks!’
‘Don't worry, I’ve got everything settled. We’re getting married in Florida and I've got the food, music and the place booked,’ Draco said, taking her hand and squeezing it, ‘all you need to worry about are the clothes.’
‘I guess you were pretty sure I’d agree to marry you then?’ Hermione asked, joking.
‘Of course. How could you say no to this face?’ Draco asked, gesturing to his face.
‘I want our wedding to be white and blue. I want the flowers down the aisle to be a mix of the colour,’ Hermione said, her eyes sparkling as Ginny grinned.
‘Anything you want,’ Draco stated, and muttered more to himself, ‘I’ll just need to get that sorted. So, I’ll do that and you do the shopping.’
‘Draco, you're amazing!’ Hermione said, tackling him with a hug. She turned to Ginny with her arms still around Draco, ‘Ginny, will you be my bridesmaid?’
Ginny grinned at her, nearly bursting with excitement, ‘of course I will!’
‘Harry, Ron, I would like it if you could be my groomsmen?’ Draco asked, glancing at the two boys that he had surprisingly gotten closer to.
‘Sure, mate, we've got your back. This means a bachelor party!’ Ron grinned as Harry nodded, patting his back.
Draco chuckled and looked at Hermione who raised her eyebrows.
‘Yeah... well... We'll talk about that later.’ Draco said, fist bumping Harry and Ron.
‘Anyway... We are going shopping tomorrow,’ Hermione looked at Draco, Ginny, Harry and Ron before adding excitedly, ‘guess where? London!’
‘Do we have to?’ Ron asked, his face falling.
‘Unless you want to wear them horrid dress robes you wore to the Yule ball...’ said Hermione laughing as Ginny clapped a hand to her own mouth, stopping her giggles from erupting.
‘Fine I'll go!’ Ron said, turning red.
---
Next morning in the Burrow, Hermione was getting ready to go to the shopping centre. Draco, Harry and Ron were sitting at a table, talking quietly.
‘Ginny! Let's go!’ Hermione shouted, getting annoyed since Ginny had been in the shower before all of them but she was the last one down for breakfast.
Ginny rolled her eyes at her impatience and walked in, going over to take Harry’s hand. The boys stood up and Draco came over to Hermione, looking at her as though he expected some sort of remark.
Right, we'll apparate,’ Hermione said, taking Draco's hand.
They all joined hands and Hermione disapparated to a small, narrow alleyway. They walked out of it and saw the shopping centre. It was big and full since she guessed people had come here for summer or holiday shopping. They walked in and stood to the side, away from the flow of noisy shoppers.
‘Right,’ Hermione shouted over the noise, ‘how do we do this? Girls go alone and boys alone?’
‘I don't want to leave you,’ Draco said, taking her hand.
‘Give it a rest, Draco,’ Harry said as Ron faked vomiting into his hand.
Draco glanced at them and rolled his eyes, a pink tint appearing in his cheeks. Hermione kissed him briefly, loving the fact that he hadn’t even thought before saying that. They had missed so much time together that even she didn’t want to be apart from him but there was too much shopping to do.
‘Draco, don’t let the other two fool around. There really isn’t much time and we have a million other things to do. Get matching ties, suits if you need them, shoes. Make sure they all fit,’ Hermione ordered.
Draco fake saluted, ‘yes, ma’am!’
‘Meet at that Starbucks over there in two hours!’ Hermione chuckled, squeezing his hand and glanced at Ginny, ‘come with me.’
Hermione and Ginny went left as the boys went right. Ginny hooked her arm through Hermione’s, grinning.
‘Should we get the bridesmaids clothes first?’ Hermione asked, stopping outside a shop.
Ginny nodded, walking into the shop. All kinds of dresses stood on the stalls and were hung up on hangers.
‘Let's choose a colour and pick a dress.’ Hermione suggested, her hands grazing across a couple of dresses.
‘Okay. Hermione what colour?’ Ginny asked, looking around the store as a few other people shopped around too.
‘Um, I think we should match the setting and go for a light blue dress,’ Hermione said, smiling.
Ginny nodded and went to hunt down some pretty blue bridesmaid dresses. She got an armful and tried them on so that Hermione could critique it, modelling this way and that.
‘Okay, this is the last dress and I don’t care what you say, I like it,’ Ginny said as she stalked out of the cubicle, looking down at her dress.
‘That one!’ Hermione shrieked, pointing at the dress Ginny was wearing.
It was light blue with a frilly V-neck, fitted at the waist and then spread out to the knees. In other words, it was beautiful.
‘I love this one too.’ Ginny said, feeling the cloth.
‘That's the one then!’ Hermione said.
They bought the dress and silver high heeled shoes. Ginny brought bags and jewellery and then they bought Hermione's dress. Ginny was surprised at the dress Hermione chose, although she thought it was beautiful.
It took a long time but they had everything and went to meet the boys in Starbucks. They were sitting at a table and had about four bags. Draco was laughing at something Harry said when the girls came over, slumping into their seats with heavy sighs.
‘Hey, beautiful, got everything?’ Draco asked and Hermione nodded, ‘where to now?’
‘Home! I need to pack,’ Hermione said and they all agreed, no one had packed yet.
---
‘Seriously. What have you got in there?’ Draco asked, lying on Hermione's bed, eyeing her suitcase.
‘Clothes, make up and stuff.’ Hermione said, trying to shut her suitcase. She didn’t want to admit she had packed some books as well, ‘have you packed yet?’
‘Yeah. Listen, I was thinking,’ Draco said, tracing patterns on her bed, ‘that we can have the wedding in Florida and then we can come back here and have a party?’
‘But, won’t that be a little expensive? We’ve already used so much money,’ Hermione murmured, worryingly.
‘It won’t plus I have the money,’ Draco said, looking at her.
Hermione sighed, ‘sure, we’ll think about it.’
‘Oh and-’ Draco was interrupted as a soft 'crack' came behind Hermione.
Hermione turned behind to see Harry and Ron. Ron waved at her, grinning.
‘Draco, we knew you'd be here,’ Harry said, nodding at Hermione, ‘anyway, we still on for today?’
‘Um... yeah... Hermione, I wanted to tell you about that. Harry, Ron and I are going out tomorrow...’ Draco said, nervously.
‘Bachelor party?’ Hermione asked, raising her eyebrows.
‘Yeah. Well. I already told them I didn't want one since I don't want to look back to this life without you but they insisted.’ Draco said, standing up and taking her hands.
‘LIES!’ Harry and Ron both shouted.
Draco glared at them.
‘Hermione, you can't stop him,’ Harry said, looking serious as he put his arms over his chest.
‘Draco...’ Hermione moaned, her lips turned down in a upset expression. She made her eyes big and wide like a puppy.
‘Guys I'm not going. Forget it,’ Draco said, cupping Hermione’s face.
‘Hah,’ Hermione laughed, looking at Harry, ‘I can stop him!’
‘You're completely whipped!’ Ron said, slapping his back as Draco sighed, frowning a little.
‘No, he just loves me. Anyway you can go, you don't need my permission. Just... What are you going to do?’ Hermione asked as Draco pressed his lips to hers.
‘That,’ Harry said, ‘is none of your business. Come on Draco. Bachelor party!’
‘Just remember we have a flight tomorrow!’ Hermione shouted as they disapparated.
