Chapter Eight
Harry, Hermione, Ron and Luna were sat at a table in potions. They had Professor Slughorn. He was an old, balding man with dull blue eyes. Harry and Slughorn go on very well, of course, after the war.
Hermione thought he was an interesting character. She liked him more than Snape. But, of course, Severus Snape was a very brave man and lover.
Hermione could only imagine how it must have been to see the one you love with someone else. Of course she had seen Ron with Lavender and had got jealous but Snape’s love was stronger and everlasting. He loved Lily with his whole heart and till his dying day.
She, of course, would love to find that man, whom she will love forever.
Professor Slughorn stood up, gaining everyone’s attention by clearing his throat loudly.
‘Now that I have your attention, I would like to gather in homework, please leave it on my desk,’ Slughorn said, and made his way to the closet, disappearing in it.
Ron, lazy as always, used his wand to put the homework on his desk. As did other people. Hermione looked at Draco when she passed his desk, who sat two tables beside her.
‘What homework?’ Draco was asking Blaise with a confused expression, ‘did we have homework?’
Blaise shrugged, lifting his gaze for only a moment, and went back to drawing on his desk. Hermione frowned slightly, wishing he wouldn’t vandalise, but then her eyes met Draco.
Draco looked up and caught Hermione watching him. Hermione looked to her friends, they were all busy talking or just waiting, staring off into space. She looked back at Draco. He smiled and winked at her and Hermione was sure her heart stopped beating... Just for a second. She frowned at him and mouthed 'why don't you have your homework?' imitating writing on a piece of paper.
Draco shrugged, looking like he didn't care. Hermione found that she loved Draco's badass attitude... She never thought she would admit to that, especially not in her previous years of Hogwarts.
‘Harry, Parvati, Luna...’ Slughorn came back and started reading the names off the homework to see who had not handed it in.
‘Mr Malfoy and Mr Zabini don't have their homework... Why am I not surprised?’ Slughorn asked, rhetorically.
Both boys shrugged, Draco leaned back in his chair and stretched his legs out in front off him.
‘50 points from Slytherin and I want it on my desk tomorrow morning.’ Slughorn said, sternly.
He continued the lesson, telling them they had to make a tricky potion which made everyone groan. Hermione grinned, getting up to get her ingredients. She aced the potion, her hair all over the place. After the class finished, Draco winked and nodded at Hermione, he was packing his books very slowly.
Hermione got the message.
‘Guys, I'll see you in the next class, I just need to...’ she said, indicating at Slughorn. She meant to say she needed to ask him something but found she couldn't. She just wanted to go straight to Draco.
‘Sure thing.’ Harry and Ron walked out, chatting.
‘Mr Malfoy, I expect to see you tonight. No exceptions.’ Slughorn said before Hermione got to Draco.
Draco nodded and Slughorn ushered us both out the class, locking the room and walking away.
When he rounded the corner, Hermione turned to Draco. Looking into those beautiful eyes of his would always make her heart beat quicken. Draco moved his lips to her cheek, kissing her, before edging his way to her mouth.
‘Why didn't you do your homework?!’ Hermione said, pretending to be angry as she pushed him away jokingly.
‘Well... I was too busy last night, kissing you,’ Draco said, grabbing her hand and leading her to a empty corridor.
When he was done making sure no one was around, he kissed her. Hermione frowned, not kissing him back as her mind wandered to class. The two Head’s should probably not be making out in a corridor when class was just about to start.
‘What's wrong?’ Draco asked, stroking her face.
‘I've got to go to class.’ Hermione said, sighing at his touch. Oh, she loved his touch...
Draco nodded like he understood but pulled her forwards, placing his lips onto hers. Hermione kissed him back, tasting the apples that he always seemed to be eating. Her fingers slowly traced over his abs.
‘Mione...’ Draco said, pulling back, ‘We both have class. Meet me tonight in our dorm?’
‘You have detention tonight,’ Hermione reminded him, against his mouth. Licking her lips, she kissed him slowly.
‘Ah yeah, forgot...’ Draco said, distracted by her lips, ‘Mm... Meet me before I go?’
‘Sure. But I really should go now. Bye, Draco!’ Hermione said and ran to her next class.
Hermione entered the door, a little later than she normally would so everyone turned to stare at her. Her face red and hair blowing everywhere from making the potions, kissing Draco, and running down a corridor.
‘Thank you for gracing us with your presence, Miss Granger,’ Professor Flitwick said sarcastically.
Hermione blushed red and sat down, ignoring the stares from Harry and Ron. She was blushing outside but smiling in the inside.
---
‘I have to go.... Head Girl duties,’ Hermione said, nervously, eyeing the clock.
Hermione hated lying to her friends but on the other hand she wanted to see Draco. That seemed like the most important thing to her but she used “Head Girl duties” as an excuse for everything, including when she actually had to go for Head Girl reasons.
‘Hermione, please just help me with this!’ Harry said, losing patience, tapping his quill against the table.
Harry was trying to do his homework and found it rather difficult since he hadn’t studied for a year. Hermione rolled her eyes, Harry had never studied even in their sixth year.
‘Look it up in the book!’ Hermione said, standing up, rolling her eyes.
‘Wait, just help me! I've looked it up in the book but... Urgh, forget it... I just won't bother with it!’ Harry said, knowing Hermione wouldn't stand for uncompleted homework.
‘No Harry! I'll help you,’ Hermione said, eyeing the clock but sitting next to him, ‘Okay, so that's page 82 and the...’
Hermione spent the next ten minutes explaining the homework to Harry. She got angry when he wasn't listening to her and was watching Ron and Ginny play chess.
‘Harry, if you're not going to listen to me then forget it!’ Hermione shouted, losing patience and shutting the book with a bang, ‘all I do is help you and Ron and you never even listen! You expect me to do everything for you!’
‘No, wait, Hermione...’ Harry called out after her as she stormed out.
Hermione walked really fast to the Heads common room, the image of Draco made her calm slightly. She clutched her robes tighter, anxious as she neared the common room. She smiled and stood outside for a moment before she threw open the door and saw Draco by the books, surveying one of them. He turned around and his face lit up, making Hermione laugh.
‘Hermione!’ Draco moved over to her and hugged her, ‘I thought you wouldn't show.’
Hermione shook her head, kissing his lips briefly.
‘Yeah, I was busy. Sorry!’ Hermione said, hugging him tightly.
‘I have to go... I have detention.’ Draco said, pulling away, sadness etched upon his beautiful face.
Hermione pouted slightly and placed her lips to his, their lips moved as one. Draco moaned into her mouth, and his hands travelled down her waist.
Draco kissed her, harder and more passionately. Hermione smiled as they started to move backwards. Her back was against the wall. She grabbed the nape of his neck, determined to kiss him even more.
‘What is going on here?!’ a voice shouted, breaking their passionate kiss, echoing in Hermione’s ears.
Hermione turned her head so fast it made her neck click. Her eyes widened and she loosened her grip on Draco. Draco was staring at the intruder, his eyes narrowed.
‘Harry...’ Hermione whispered.
Harry's face showed a lot of emotions that Hermione had seen before but never towards her. Shock, surprise, hurt, anger and many more flicked across his face, settling on anger. His green eyes were fierce as he stared at Draco.
‘Leave, Malfoy... NOW!’ Harry's voice shouted in the deadly quiet room.
Draco raised his eyebrows, glaring at him. Who was he to tell him to leave when it wasn’t even Harry’s dormitory. Draco took Hermione’s hand, still glaring at Harry who returned the cold stare.
‘It's okay, Draco.’ Hermione turned his face to look at her.
They were nose to nose, Hermione gave him a small smile and he nodded back. He kissed her once on the lips, and walked out, making sure to push past Harry.
‘Harry... I...’ Hermione was lost for words.
‘What sort of Head Girl duties do you have to do? Snog Malfoy's face off? What about Ron?!’ Harry shouted to her from across the room.
‘Harry, I can explain,’ Hermione cried, continuing when Harry was still staring at her, ‘I love Ron like I love you. He's like a brother to me, and I realise that now... But with Draco it's different... He makes me feel so... I...’ Hermione paused.
‘Do you not know what he's done? Or did you FORGET?!’ Harry shouted, balling his fists up, ‘Did you forget he nearly killed Dumbledore? Did you forget his 'master' killed my parents?! How could you do this to us?!’
‘Listen to me Harry!’ Hermione said walking to him, ‘You know he only did that to survive Voldemort... He has changed and he's totally sweet... And... And I love him.’ Hermione said, surprising herself with her own words.
She loved him.
Hermione loved Draco.
‘Tell that to Ron then. Stop hurting him!’ Harry said, pinching the bridge of his nose, ‘I'm going to tell him to meet you here and you will tell him.’
Harry walked out, leaving Hermione behind. She had never seen Harry this angry before. She watched as he slammed the door shut, the sound hurt her head and also her heart.
She fell down onto the floor, sliding against the wall. Her eye's closed and two minutes later she was crying, loudly. She cried, her tears travelled down her face but she didn't bother to wipe them away.
‘Hermione...’ the familiar voice, lined with guilt and love, called out.
Hermione looked up, wiping away her tears. Through them, she saw Draco looking down at her with pity. He let out a shaky sigh.
‘Draco... Draco...’ Hermione repeated as he came over to her.
Draco had a touch of a frown on his face and he touched her face with his thumb, lightly brushed her lips with his. He wiped away her tears, looking into her eyes as Hermione tried to stop herself from crying.
‘Did he hurt you?’ Draco whispered, looking into those brown eyes he undoubtedly loved.
‘No. Of course he didn't...’ Hermione stood up, pulling Draco with her.
Draco stroked her face and kissed her, closing his eyes. They kissed as though they had no time left. Draco clutched Hermione's waist. She had both her arms around his long, elegant neck. Draco's tongue flicked onto her lips, tasting them.
They both pulled back, stared at one another.
‘I have to tell Ron. I hate lying...’ Hermione muttered, ‘Harry said he'll tell Ron to meet me here...’
‘We'll tell him together.’ Draco said.
Hermione tried to say no but she wanted him to be with her. She couldn't do it alone. They sat on the sofa, together. There was a knock on the door after a few minutes and Hermione’s back stiffed. Draco stopped playing with her hair and grabbed her hand instead. He squeezed it once to show support and comfort.
‘Come in,’ Draco called out, knowing it was Ron. He wondered how to approach this and knew Ron would probably not even listen to him.
Ron walked into the room, looking around briefly. He grinned, ‘ah, you have all the luxury you deserve, Hermione.’
His eyes met Draco and Hermione who were sitting on the sofa together. He frowned briefly, his grin disappearing, walking into the dorm. He narrowed his eyes slightly at Draco and then looked at Hermione.
‘Harry said to meet you here,’ Ron said, shrugging, ‘he seemed a little angry actually. He was talking about you and...’
‘Ron...’ Hermione couldn’t stop the tears falling down her face. She had only just stopped crying too but she couldn’t control herself.
‘Hermione, it's okay.’ Ron said, kneeling on the ground beside her. He kissed her once on the cheek, confusion etched on his face, ‘whatever it is... it’s okay.’
Draco's hand squeezed Hermione's. She looked at Draco once before turning to Ron, knowing she’d need to get through this right now. She couldn’t keep lying to Ron and, even worse, keep cheating. She never thought she would be capable of cheating on him. Not ever.
‘Ron... Ron, I...’ Hermione couldn't form the words, ‘I like... I like Draco. We've been together... I haven't told you and I'm so sorry.’
Ron looked confuse and kept staring at Hermione as though he didn’t understand the language she was speaking. Hermione sniffled, wiping away her tears.
‘You and Malfoy? Oh, come on, you would never date someone like him!’ Ron said, shaking his head as he looked at Draco, ‘not that sort of scum.’
Draco narrowed his eyes at him, ‘watch it, Weasley. I’m not the scum here.’
Ron leaned forward to grab her hand, ignoring Draco completely, but Draco pulled her back and crashed his lips onto Hermione’s. She didn't pull back but she didn't kiss him either.
Ron watched them, turning red with anger. He pulled Hermione away from him and grabbed Draco's shirt pulling him up, before punching him on his jaw. Draco fell to floor, but quickly got to his feet and punched Ron in the gut, livid and shaking in anger.
‘Ron! Don't!’ Hermione screamed as he was about to punch Draco again.
Hermione stood in front of Draco, clutching his hands, tears streaming down her face. She tried to act like a barrier between them since the last thing she needed was Draco and Ron to fight over her. Ron didn't punch Draco but he opted for staring at Hermione.
‘You like him... Why... He... Why didn't you tell me?!’ Ron shouted, going up to her face.
Hermione knew Draco wanted to push him away but she had hold of his hands so he couldn't. She tried to stop the tears from falling but couldn’t quite manage it.
‘I'm sorry... I knew this would happen. I should have told you.’ Hermione said, crying.
Ron slowly lifted his hands to wipe away her tears. He kissed her once on the cheek, making Draco clench his jaw. After kissing her, Ron walked out, leaving Hermione stunned. Hermione let go of Draco, falling onto the sofa limply, still crying. Draco sat beside her, he protectively put his arms around her. Hermione turned to look at him, feeling the life draining from her.
Draco's heart stopped beating for a second and all of a sudden his heart beat more than natural. He was lost for words as Hermione stared at him. The intensity of her look affected him in ways he couldn't explain.
‘I'm going,’ Hermione said, getting up and walking to the door, not looking into his eyes, ‘I'm sorry.’
‘Wait, Hermione, you can't go.’ Draco said, grabbing her hands and frowning.
‘Let me go, Draco,’ Hermione tried to get out of his grasp.
‘No, I won’t,’ Draco pleaded, afraid she might not come back if he let her out the door, ‘don’t go, Hermione. Please.’
Hermione stared at him, wondering when he had started to call her by her first name rather than her last. Her eyes turned cold as did her voice.
‘Let me go, Malfoy,’ Hermione muttered, her voice as cold as ice.
Draco frowned harder at her.
‘Hermione, I don’t understand why you're acting like this. I've not done anything!’ Draco said, letting go of her hands angrily, ‘if loving you is wrong, then sure. I’m wrong.’
‘It's your fault he's hurting! He was my friend before I knew you! He never called me a mudblood! I don't understand why I'm choosing you over him!!’ Hermione's eyes grew darker and darker by every passing word. She stepped forward to him, her nose very close to his, she kept eye contact with the stormy grey eyes.
‘I love you... and... If you really love me you wont walk out of this room to go after Weasley,’ Draco whispered, silently challenging her with his eyes.
Hermione's face relaxed for a moment as she analysed his eyes. Draco kept staring at her, hoping she won't leave. After a minute of breathing to calm herself down, Hermione relaxed, her eyes back to the normal brown shade.
‘Draco... I'm sorry, I don't know what came over me...’ Hermione said, her eyes looking down to the floor.
Draco lifted her face up with one finger to meet her lips and kissed her lightly.
‘I love you,’ Draco muttered against her lips.
‘I love you too,’ Hermione said, kissing him again and again.
