Chapter 13: Sadness

I sighed as I cleaned up the medical center. Gryffindor had won the game, to no ones surprise, and I had to put up with all the complaints that the people gave me of not doing my job fast enough to get the players back in the game! And just when I thought it couldn’t get worse, Kat came up to me with a mix smile on her face. “So, um, you want the good news or the bad news?” She asked. “Um, the good news?”

“Ok, so, um, you’re really good with all the healing and stuff.” I lifted an eyebrow. “And the bad news?” Kat froze and went a little white. “That Neville boy tried to take on Crabbe and Goyle single-handed and is now out cold but he'll be all right and, well...”

“What is it Kat?” I asked, stepping closer to her. “Um, Draco’s got a black eye, and--”

“What?” I shouted cleaning off my hands and quickly walking to the Hospital Wing. “Gwen! Gwen, wait!” Kat shouted after me. “He’s not that badly hurt, he just needs some ice.” I stopped dead in my tracks. “Then I want to be there and be the one gives him that ice, and then I’m going to find who ever did this, and, and I don’t even know what I’m going to do to them!”

“Um, Gwen?” I spun around to look at Kat. “What?” I said between my teeth and ragged breathing. “Um, you’re glowing.” I looked at my arms that were coated in a soft yellow light. “Gwen,” Kat put her hands on my shoulders. “Calm down. We can go visit Draco. But you’ve gotta calm down. Just. Breathe.” She said. I took a deep breath and sighed. The glow dimmed and Kat patted me on the head. “There ya go. Now let’s go see your future hubby.” She smiled and started walking to the Hospital Wing.

“Draco, are you alright?” I asked, sitting next to him on his cot. He gave a weak laugh. “I feel fine.” He sat up. “But I’ll feel better when that Weasley gets his due.” He winced and I placed my hands on his shoulder and his side. “You shouldn’t worry about Weasley. You should worry about yourself. You’re eye looks pretty bad.” I said, taking a cold rag and dabbing around the big black mark on his face. Draco huffed and we sat in silence.

“I think you’re fine.” I said, standing up. “I’m going back to my room, you should go back to yours.” I dropped the rag in the water dish and started walking back to my room. “Hey.” Draco said. “You shouldn’t--.” He cut himself off, and narrowed his eyes. I turned to see what he was looking at and sighed. It was Potter and his friends. I sighed and pulled away from Draco.

“I’m fine, Draco. Now good night.” I said, a little force in my voice. I’d never raise my voice to Draco, but right now I didn’t care if I did. I knew as I walked down the corridor that he wouldn’t follow me. He was going to chase after Potter and not me. And that’s why when I got to my room I pushed my face into a pillow and cried.

The following week I noticed that Draco would smirk whenever he saw Potter or any of his friends. “What do you think happened between Draco and Potter?” I asked Kat when we sat down for dinner. “The better question is, ‘What doesn’t happen between them?’ I heard that Draco has something over Potter’s head. Like blackmail or something.” Kat replied, shoving turkey in her mouth. I sighed and picked at my mash potatoes. “Of course he does.” I sighed again.

When Dinner was over I told Kat to go on with out me, I needed to talk to Miss Militia. I had some questions for her and I couldn’t wait till tomorrow to ask them. I sprinted off the school grounds and down the hill towards where I thought Miss Malitia’s house was. “Miss Militia!” I called as I ran down the hill. My robe started to drag and collect mud, so much so that I tripped and tumbled the rest of my way down.

I groaned as I stood. I looked up only to see a cliff and wide, open air. Where was Miss Militia's house? I looked around and gulped. “Maybe I made a wrong turn, and she’s just past this forest.” I mumbled to myself. I hesitantly past the threshold of the forest.

All I did was blink and the forest seemed to darken around me. I gulped and kept walking, every now and again calling out for Miss Militia. I was halfway through the wood, suddenly, there was a gust of wind, and something cold and dark rushed by me. I shivered. “H-hello? Is-is someone there?” My voice came out in squeaks.

I could feel it circling me, spying on me with its cold eyes. Bringing out my wand I thought of all the spells I could use to defend myself, then realizing that I didn’t know any spell to truly help me right now. I felt like crying. My knees buckled and I fell to the ground, accepting what might happen to me.

“Gwen! Gwen get up! Get up Gwen!” Though foggy eyes I could see Miss Militia and her jiggling, orange dress. I was in and out aftered that. I could hear her screaming for me to stay awake, but I felt like my energy was being sucked out of me. “Stay awake Baby Girl! Don’t go out!” My face hit something soft and I curled up with it, feeling warm inside. Miss Militia brought a cup to my lips and the bitter taste woke me up fully.

“Miss Militia? What happened?” I said frantically. “Shh. Calm down Child. You traveled to a place you weren’t supposed to that’s all. Just a mistake I’m sure.” She had her back to me and was washing something in the sink.

“Miss Militia, what was that?” I asked, curling up and holding my legs. “Child?” Miss Militia faced me but I didn’t look at her. Instead I focused on the horizon line of my knees. “It felt so cold, and lifeless, but, I know it was alive. So what was it?” I looked up at her, tears brimming my eyes. Miss Militia came over to me and cradled me in her arms. “Hush Child. You’re gonna be alright. I won’t let anyone hurt you, I promise.” Miss Militia slowly rocked me back and forth till my eyes grew heavy and I welcomed the sweet bliss of sleep.
