Chapter 12: Quidditch Practice

“Keep in a tight formation!” Wood yelled. Quidditch had started up again and Wood was training his team hard, so hard that I was asked to monitor things. Wood was yelling at the Weasley twins when someone said, “I thought I’d find you here.” A hand touched my shoulder causing me to spin around. It was Kat. “God Kat! I thought you were Alicia.” I said, placing a  hand over my rapidly beating heart. Kat laughed.

“Why would she be here, at a Gryffindor Quidditch practice?” She asked. I shrugged. “I haven’t seen her since before Christmas break. It scares me to not know when she’ll creep up behind and, BOO!” I slightly jumped at Kat. “She’ll jump at you?” Kat asked.

“No. She’ll attack me. With evil words! Like a hex.” I sighed. “Have you ever heard of Dolores Umbridge?”

“No. Should I?” Kat lifted an eyebrow. “It’s Alicia’s aunt and the woman is on the Wizard Council! And I heard that she drinks the blood of the people she finds guilty for breakfast.”

“Not for breakfast.” I jumped as I turned to see Alicia standing behind me. “She drinks it for dinner. She says it tastes better then.” The smirk on her face widened when my face paled. I was going to retort when Kat pushed me behind her. “What do you want Alicia?”

“I just want to see my favorite Hufflepuffs.” The smile on her face was sickening. “Well, you saw us. Now go.” Kat demanded. “Kat, let’s just go. My shift is over anyway.” I said, tugging at her arm, but she wouldn’t budge. “Kat let’s go!” I yanked her and she moved a little. She looked at me with big eyes. “Come on.” I pulled her away from Alicia.

“That’s what I thought! Running away like cowards!” Alicia yelled. Kat twitched, but I held her firmly to my side. “It’s okay Kat. She’s just a bully. We’re better than her and we won’t sink to her level. Okay?” I looked up at her and she sighed. “Fine. But one day, I am going to make her eat a little dirt. Just a little.” I gave a small laugh. “Srue, Kat. One day.” Kat laughed as well. “Hey, Kat. I’ve got to go see a special friend of mine. Would you like to come. I hardly think she’ll mind. She makes the best tea.” Kat gave a curious nod and we walked down the path towards Miss Militia’s home.

“Miss Militia!” I called as I opened the door. The plump woman was sitting where she always does, sipping tea. “There’s no need to be so loud.” She said, taking another sip of her tea. “Sorry, I brought my friend. I hope that’s okay.” Miss Militia waved her hand, dismissing the matter. “As long as she doesn’t touch anything or interrupts us, she may stay.”

“Cool. So what do you guys do anyways?” She said, taking a banana scones. “We look for my lost memories.” I said, sitting across from Miss Militia. Kat sat on a stool and shrugged. “Alright. How do you do it?” She asked. I smiled and held out my arms for Miss Militia. She took them and I was in my crib, I was maybe two. My blue mobile above my head. “You must be Gwen.” A dark voice said. I looked up and saw a dark figure looming over me. “Scrawny thing you are, but I think you’ll be of use one day. Just like your mother and father.” My door opened. “What are you doing here?!” My mother cried. The dark figure chuckled and disappeared. Mom picked me up and then I was back with Miss Militia. Kat was wide eyed and had her mouth agape. “What did you see Gwen?” Miss Militia asked. My hands were shaking.

“I-it was different this time. I was in my crib and there was a dark man and he said something.” I felt like the wind had been knocked out of me. My heart was racing and I felt cold and clammy.

“What did he say?” Kat asked. Miss Militia hushed her and turned back to me. “What did he say dear?” I shook my head. “He said that I would become useful like my mum and dad.”

“Whoa...” Kat’s jaw was practically on the floor, while Miss Militia’s was clenched shut. “Gwen, have you been having nightmares that you haven’t been telling me about.” I was about to say no when I sighed and nodded. “I thought as much. Stay here for a moment I need to get something.” She disappeared into a back room and came back holding a bottle that held a strange, golden liquid. “This is Dulcis Somniabunt.” She placed the bottle in my hands. “Or more commonly known as Sweet Dreams juice. This will help you sleep. Just apply a dot on your forehead before bed or two drops if it gets worse.”

“You’re not going to ask what my nightmares are about?” I asked. Miss Militia shook her head. “No, I fear I already know the answer.” She looked me dead in the eyes and said, “You should leave. Stay safe.” I nodded and she sent Kat and I out the door.

“So that’s what you do every Saturday?” She asked. I shrugged. “Unless she tells me not to come I do.” She placed a hand on her chin and started walking back toward the school. “So are you like a chosen one like that Potter kid?” I laughed at her question.

“No in the slightest. I’ve just got family family problems that need to be resolved.” Kat nodded. “Alright.”

“Alright? That’s all you’re going to say? Alright?” I didn’t really know what to say. I’d expected her to ask a million question, but she didn’t. “Well, you’ve got your stuff to deal with. I understand that. So when you wanna talk, we can talk.”

I smiled. “Alright. Thanks Kat.” Kat shrugged. “Hey, I’ve gotta look out for my friend.” She said, putting her arm around me. “Yeah. Looking out for me.” I mumbled.
