Chapter three The Sorting Cermony suprise.
Astoria's P.O.V
The castle was just as grand as the stories told, my dream to study magic was finally coming true. Carriages with thestrals pulled up, it came to my attention that most of the other kids couldn't see them, that made me happy. They hadn't been forced to witness death like I had. A hand fell on my shoulder and a smooth yet arrogant voice said, "Our carriage is here, it will just be the two us since the two bumbling buffoons need their own." A slight laugh escaped me after he said that he clearly did not care for the pigs either. Our carriage rolled around and he helped me in before entering himself and closing the door.
The carriage started to move forward with a lurch and my inquisitive tone broke the silence as I said, "So what is your favorite class?" He looked thoughtful for a minute and then said, "It's a tie between astronomy and potions." I nodded my head and said, " I understand why you like potions. It surprises me that you like astronomy though." He gained a relaxed look and replied, "I'm named after a constellation and some times it's relaxing to ride your broom at night and just look up and forget about the pressure of my title as future head of the Malfoy family and that is the relief astronomy brings."
He then asked, "Do you like to stargaze" I nodded my head enthusiastically and said, "It sounds silly but ever since I was a little girl the stars have fascinated me. Truth be told the first ever constellation I ever learned about was yours. Draco the mighty dragon, a star arrangement that is said to represent courage, honesty, and selflessness. It is rumored that if you are born under this sign you will have these qualities." He turned his head and gave a sigh and said, "You should never believe a rumor because chances are its not true." The way he said it was full of bitterness pushing the issue further would be a bad idea.
We arrived at the front gate of the castle the older students walked in first while all of the first years were held back. A aging woman walked out in a green dress robe and old witches hat and said, "My name is Minerva Mcgonagall, welcome to Hogwarts. The sorting is about begin and afterwords you can take your seat at the correct table and begin to socialize and feast while we await professor Dumbledoor.
She lead us in an alphabetical line right down the center of the great hall. She flourished her hand and a parchment appeared, that's amazing she did it wandlessly and silent. She unrolled the parchment and began to read names. My heart rate quickened and my stomach turned. My fate was about to be decided by a hat that would look into my mind and place me based on personality alone. My name was called and my Mary Jane clad feet carried me up onto the platform and after taking a seat on the stool the hat was placed on my head. It began to contemplate my personality and then it suddenly said, "I cannot place this child she does not have one trait that outweighs the other I can not place her."
The room went silent and everyone was staring at me as if tough I was an oddity which is most likely true. A thunderous and wise voice soon rang out and said, "Minerva be a dear and go retrieve the crest bag for me." She nodded and swept out of the great hall. Dumbledoor walked over and put his hand on my shoulder and said in a kind tone, "You are a very special girl and we expect great things from you. You are about to receive an honor that has not been given since the year this school was founded, the ability to choose your own house. Mcgonagall walked back in and opened the bag for me.
I slowly lowered my hand into the bag and began to think about my options. The safest house would be Gryffindor where they accepted everyone regardless of blood status but I was not here to play it safe. I was here to change opinions and prove a point. My hand slowly rose out of the bag and wrapped around my hand was a silver and green snake and Mcgonagall announced Slytherin. This was my chance to change Hogwarts.
