The Giving Tree sung by Plain White T's
Requested by: The_Demigod_Knight

Okay, Imma be honest here. The_Demigod_Knight requested this Drabble like 6 months ago and I got super busy and didn't have to complete it until now. They've been an author's dream and have been extremely patient so go and follow them! They're amazing!

Okay, on with the story!

"I just miss her. That's all." Hiccup shrugged, his coffee cup burning his right hand, though he refused to set it down. He glanced out the window. Autumn was starting to make its way into the city. The leaves were beginning to fall and the kids were going back to school.

"Miss her? You look like your dog just died." Jack scoffed, ruffling his dark hair.

"Jack." Hiccup scolded, narrowing his green eyes at his best friend.

"No. Ya know what? Screw her! She only comes back to you when she wants something. I hope she falls for some poor sucker to finally get a taste of her own medicine." Jack spat, leaning back in his chair, anger radiating off of him.

But the truth was, Hiccup didn't wish bad on her. Actually, he wanted to see Merida succeed in life as crazy as it sounded. Sure, she's broken his heart more times than anyone can count, but that doesn't mean he wants her to fail at life. "I just hope she's happy." Hiccup mumbled, letting out a long sigh.

"I don't," Jack huffed, his brown eyes glaring outside. "I hope she'll finally realize that you're the best guy anyone could ever have."

Hiccup was silent, unsure what to say. Jack glanced back, his face softening. "Well, it's true. You're not selfish or rude like me. I mean, I might have better looks, but you definitely out score me in the personality department," Jack continued. "God, she's a bitch."

Jack had to head back to work, so Hiccup went home. After all, he had to care for Toothless and he couldn't stand listening to Jack rip apart Merida. It was starting to make his stomach churn.

As he laid in bed that night, his mind started to drift to her. Her bright red curls and stunning blue eyes. Besides her gorgeous looks, she had a one in a million personality. The only bad part about it was her restlessness.

Constantly, she had to be doing something new; she needed a new adventure or her day was wasted. Hiccup, well, he was content living with a daily routine. Of course, he loved the adventures they had together, but he had to settle down.

He couldn't help but wonder where she was right now. A party? A close friend's? In all honesty, she was probably between the covers of her new boyfriend's bed. His arm was most likely draped protectively over her. He would be fine with this if she was happy. Only, she wasn't. Her heart felt hollow. So she decided to crawl back to him. Just like she always did when she felt drained of love.

"Hello?" Hiccup answered, picking up his phone. Beside him, Toothless panted and pawed at his leg.

"Hey, Hic. It's me."

"Mer," he breathed, running his hand through his hair. "It's been a while since I've heard from you. How ya been?" He asked. At her name, Toothless immediately sat still, slightly whining.

"Not so good," she sighed. No doubt, on the other side she was most likely gnawing on the inside of her cheek. "Say, are you busy tonight? We need to talk."

He should say no. They've constantly gotten back together again and again over the years. Some people didn't even know they were on and off because every time they saw Hic or Merida they were dating again.

But, Hiccup still loved her. "Yeah, sure."

"God, I missed you." She grinned, leaning into his arms. Currently, they were sprawled out on his couch, some random movie playing on the tv. Her calloused fingers rubbed circles on his hand, tugging at his heartstrings.

"I've missed you, too, Mer." He honestly replied. She let out a soft chuckle, tilting her head so her blue eyes could meet his green ones.

"You're so sweet, Hic." She stated. Like always, he believed her. This time she would stay. They could settle down and build a home. She could be happy with him. They could have a life together.

But soon, the leaves on his giving tree began to shed its leaves as his hopes began to crumple in front of him. He could see the trail of broken hearts trailing behind her. There was no way she would stay with him. She had to be on the go. Once something new and exciting came up, she quickly built a boat out of his love and sailed away to chase after it.

He would be left like a sad and lonely fool. The only thing left of his giving tree would be roots and a scared heart with her name carved inside. If all she wanted was love, why did she cut down all of his?

But just when he started to grow more love and forgiveness for her, she would come back and cut him down again and sail off again. It was an endless cycle. Yet no matter, he would always love her.
