Heartbeat sung by Carrie Underwood

The lights were bright and the music was loud. The club was packed with the down town crowd. Rapunzel helped herself to a glass of red wine. She was seated up at the bar, having a good time. She liked being were the people were, but tonight she wanted to get away. "Hey baby," Eugene greeted as he took a seat beside her. She could her his soothing voice over the blaring music. "Let's get out of here." He smiled his million dollar smile.

She hopped into his red truck. She loved taking night drives with her husband. This was the night life she adored. She watched out her window, seeing the city lights slowly fade into the distance. "Where are we going?" She asked.

"Just out." He smirked. He loved surprising her. Her green eyes light up as she ran her fingers through her blonde hair. She drove him crazy. She fumbled with the radio as they got further out of town. After many efforts, she couldn't find a station.

"All I'm getting is static." She mumbled as turned the radio dial. Eugene shut off the truck and looked at her. She shot him a glance, confused by him. What was he up to?

"Come on." He encouraged as he opened his door. She followed him out, wondering what could be this far out in the country side. He popped out the tail gate and laid it flat. He helped her up, taking her waist and lifting her up. It was just like old times.

"Eugene, what are we doing?" She giggled. He took her waist and pulled her close, looking deep into her emerald eyes.

"Dance with me." He smiled. She laughed and kicked off her heels. She placed them on the edge of the tailgate. She placed her bare feet onto his boots. She was as tall as his shoulder. She looked into his brown eyes. They were the same as they were back when they were rebellious teens. His thick hair was softly flowing to side from the gentle breeze.

"Oh my god." She blushed as he twirled her. She laughed and jumped onto his shoes again. He rocked them back and forth, dancing to the rhythm his heartbeat. The cricket choir was chirping in the background. Rapunzel loved the way the bright fireflies made Eugene glow. It showed off his handsome features, bringing back memories.

"You're just as beautiful as you were ten years ago." He awed. The harvest moon was lighting up the night, brightly shining off her glowing skin. She looked like a goddess. She brushed back her blonde hair and looked him in the eyes. He knew just how to make her fall.

"Shut up." She giggled, biting her lip afterwards. He smiled, knowing she liked it. She wanted to be closer to him. She laid her head on his shoulder. He wrapped his arms tightly around her. She listened to his heartbeat. It kicked like a drum, marching to a steady beat. His strong hands rested on her hips, making her hold her breath. She didn't want to make any movement. His heart started beating faster, showing that he was still in love with his high school sweetheart.

Rapunzel let her eyes wander, trying to take in this moment and lock it away safely in her memories. The stars were brighter than they've ever been. "Look!" She gasped as she pointed into the sky. Eugene followed her hand and watched a star shot across the dark evening sky. Rapunzel crossed both her fingers and shut her eyes, making a wish.

Eugene watched her. Her little nose was scrunched up, showing off her freckles. Her eyebrows were furrowed, embracing that she really wanted her wish to come true. "What did ya wish for?" He teased as he brushed back her blonde hair out of her now open eyes. She playfully shoved him, knowing he liked to tease.

"If I tell you, it won't come true." She sweetly smiled, resting her forehead against his chest, her cheeks were becoming hot. She didn't know he could still make her blush. He gently took her chin and raised it look into her eyes. He moved towards her soft, pink lips. They moved in sync, listening to his heartbeat.

"I think I know what you want." He smirked as they let go. She bit her lip, hoping he was wrong.

"What?" She taunted.

"You want this night to last forever." He smiled. She giggled, showing him that it was true. He pulled her close again, laying her against his chest. She took a deep breath, smelling his cologne. It sent shivers down her spine and goosebumps up her arms.

The river rolled in the background. The cricket sang like crazy as they shared another slow kiss. The fireflies were blinking brighter than the stars in the sky. This beautiful evening couldn't be better. This was where they belonged.
