Week 6 of Costuming: The Final Hours

This is my final week as costumer. And all things considered, it went pretty grand!

Mostly all I did over the week was minor costume adjustments, confirming what everyone was going to do with their hair and makeup, and keep the dressing semi-clean after rehearsal. I say semi-clean because there's no possible way on this earth that any dressing room stays perfectly clean in the midst of the final days before opening night.

Usually on the afternoon before we open, some local theatre awards judges will come in, and we'll give them a preview of the show. Afterwards, they give us feedback and tell us what they loved and what they disliked. Well, this year they decided to come a day early.

Without warning.

We were scrambling to get everything ready when the first judge arrived; it was chaos. In the end, we pulled it off, and the judges really seemed to enjoy it!

Opening night went really fantastic as well! The school's news crew did a live stream of the play, which was fun. During intermission, I had to deal with some damage control with both of the female leads' costumes, but I was able to fix their issues before the curtain opened again.

Saturday is closing night, meaning that my time as costumer is coming to an end. Even with everything that went horribly wrong, it was a blast, and I'm glad that I was offered the chance to do this. I'll turn back over the mantle of command over to the original female costumer, but she's since informed that she would like for me to have her job once she graduates in May! I have another job that's about to be passed down to me after Christmas as well; starting in second semester, I will be in charge of creating and printing the programs for all of our shows! The girl who currently has the job will be teaching me, and I'm really looking forward to working with her. Like the costumer, she too is a senior and will be graduating, so she handpicked me to take over her job. This is going to be sooo much fun.
