Week 5 of Costuming: AKA I imagine death so much it feels more like a memory

The week started off pretty well... besides the fact that one of the two of our female leads was out with multiple sicknesses and infections. She still hasn't returned, and it is still unclear if she'll be back in time for the show next week at all.

We usually don't cast understudies, so there was no one prepared immediately prepared to fill in for her. On Monday, before we knew the extent of the girl's health, the directors asked a close friend of mine to just read the lines for them. However, I overheard them talking to her on Tuesday after we found out more about how our lead was doing and heard them saying that she should start memorizing the lines "just in case".

While we definitely don't want the original girl to miss out on this show, especially since she's worked so hard on it for so long, my friend taking over the role would be the best thing if the girl can't do it. At least it would be for me. Since I know for a fact that she fits all of the costumes for the character, seeing how she modeled them for me.

And then yesterday happened.

During school, we finished running through Act Two, and we were planning on running through the entire show after school with costumes, which I was looking forward to. However, I had to leave after school for about half an hour for an appointment, so I missed seeing everyone putting on their costumes for the first time.

When I got back, I discovered that the female lead who wasn't sick had just bypassed the order of costumes that I had set out for her and was just wearing... I don't even know what. Then the directors started saying that there would be no costume changes in the show even though they informed me in the beginning that the female leads needed at least three costumes each??

I had no clue what was going on anymore. My only comfort left in life is that I saved one of my favorite costumes for myself in wear in the show, and that my friend has given me one of her pretty black chokers to go with it.

Anyways, it looks like all of my hard work of finding multiple costumes for the female leads and making them an organized chart to keep up with them has gone to waste. Joy. I just need to make it through next Saturday, and then I'll be done.... until next school year when the actual costumer will have graduated and I'll officially become the women's costumer. Hmm. Maybe I should rethink this.
