I just realized that Wolf wasn't the Big Bad Wolf like we originally thought; Ran was.

Wolf was the Woodsman

He came in last minute to save Scarlet from Ran, and Scarlet has occasionally made jokes about Wolf being a strapping farm worker with an axe who would cut the wood at the farm. Coincidence? I think not!
