Another Sudden Aida Realization
*whispers* "Rewrite the Stars" from The Greatest Showman is lowkey a rip-off of "Written in the Stars".
Of course there's the obvious similarities in the titles alone, with both of them being about writing and the stars. And then there's the characters: a well-off white dude who grew up with a racist social class and a headstrong black/half-black woman from a (seemingly) lower ranking. Also, the headstrong woman's most iconic outfit is purple, and the white dude has a red outfit in his fashionable wardrobe.
The white dude is completely devoted to the headstrong woman and desperately wants to be with her. The headstrong woman feels the same way, but believes it to be impossible and does her best to push him away.
The headstrong woman gets temporarily swept up in the moment while singing the love story about writing and the stars with white dude, although she forces herself away from him afterwards. The romantic tension is also obviously there and very much present throughout the entire song.
Sorry Zendaya, you're fabulous, but I'll take "Written in the Stars" over "Rewrite the Stars" any day.
