Drabble #1
So this drabble is actually what I imagined would happen after the third game of Jak if I was to do a fanfiction about it. Along with a new OC. That fanfiction would cover everything. So 1-3. Maybe Jak X. Not Lost Frontier because we can just pretend that THAT never happened 🤦🏼♀️
Anyway, this is done at what would pretty much be the end of the fanfiction. However, even when the third game, we know the story never really ends.
Cause what about restoring Haven City? What about the eco shortage?
SO! It would begin with my OC being forced to become involved with Jak's destiny after being involved with the Precursors, of which her story would be told in the actual fanfiction, and her having to deal with certain... limitations. For instance, her sole purpose is to make sure that everything happens in accordance to what the Percursors have told her his destiny is. She must make sure everything goes the way its supposed to (everything that happens in the game) and she cannot change it. Unless, it is to save a life, however if it is a life that didn't 'need' to be saved then it will cost her. Or to stop something that's not supposed to happen in the course of events, but obviously that's allowed. And obviously, this does irritate our favorite characters. Cause let's be honest, how would you feel if you had a protector that has to make sure all that strife, torture, and pain has to happen. And even though she "technically" has the power to ease it. But cannot. Or, as they will see it, will not.
Now as for the reasons of her limitations, those would be explained very early on.

Rae sunk onto one of the bar stools at the Naughty Ottsel, watching Jak reunite with Keira and Daxter proudly show off Tess's new form and of course, his new pants.
She closed her eyes briefly and let a sigh escape as a tired smile graced her face.
'Just one more to go, and then there will finally be lasting peace for them.'
Her eyes snapped open as she heard Jak start to tell Keira about Damas, his tone becoming sad. And... guilty.
'That's right, he doesn't know yet!'
She cleared her throat and stood up once more, gaining Jak's attention.
"Jak... there's actually something you need to see--"
Daxter's loud sigh cut me off.
"Ohh great! Something else now?"
My eyes narrowed as I reached over and grabbed the bottle of alcohol he was currently drinking and held it above my head.
"Honestly Dax, you should be used to this by now. And I know none of you fully understand why I must make this "so difficult" but I have also made my reasons clear these past three years. It's not exactly been a walk in the park for me either. "
I set the bottle down, eyes softening as I remember the life I left behind. And Daxter surprisingly, doesn't make a move for the bottle again.
It's that damn purple stuff, we're lucky he only got a few sips of it this time.
"Besides... I'm sure it's something you'll like."
Jak, after smirking at Daxter let go of Keira's waist before approaching me cautiously.
I knew that this particular "adventure" of his would drive a wedge between the trusting nature we've built over the years. Mainly... because of what I didn't do.
What he didn't see me do that is. Well, maybe this will change that.
"Fine. What is it?"
As an answer, I just move towards the door. After a moment, to let Dax hop up on his shoulder, his footsteps behind assured me he was following.
Once outside I pointed to a ruin, high in the mountains near Haven Forest. Or... you know what was left of it.
"The surprise is secured inside there."
Jak crossed his arms and peered up to where I was pointing.
"Really, well all the portals have shut down and the path there has been destroyed."
I rest my left hand on my hip before nodding slightly.
"Yeah, but have you already forgotten you've got a pair of wings now? And don't worry about getting back. There's a light eco vent up there. It's one of the reasons I chose that place. The other is that it's inaccessible to anyone without their own wings. Not even Hell Cats would be able to get up there."
Jak looked at her incredulously before she cut him off with a bright light.
Her pale skin and blonde hair turned a light violet, glowing brightly with a white energy. Her violet eyes turned completely white, until each eye was completely enveloped in a white glow. Her black and dark purple vest and trousers were replaced by white, glowing robes. Her black combat boots completely vanished, leaving her barefoot.
And from her back, emerged two violet energy wings, each glowing with the same white light that surround her entire outline.
She looked back at Jak, who just regarded her with a distant expression.
"Come on then."
She took off immediately. She heard a heavy sigh behind her but did not turn back. The flapping of eco wings reassured her he was still following.
She almost didn't think he would.
She 'disappeared' as Jak called it right before and after Damas and Jak crashed.
He was... livid to say the least.
First of all, of all the things he's had to go through, knowing that she had the power to change it and didn't - - him losing his father right after learning it was him all along was definitely the worst.
The least she could have done was at least tell him. Because, after all, she knew. She knew about everything that was going to happen!
And second of all... she wasn't there. She wasn't there to explain things to him, or help him in any way like she has before.
Rae sighed as the cliffs came into view and she ducked to avoid a low lying branch, dangling off the cliff face.
Well, what he didn't know was that she actually was there.

She was hiding behind a slab of stone to stay out of Veger's sight.
And when they left... she transformed to gather enough strength to move the car off of Damas.
Yes, yes he was dead.
But, not for long.
It took a minute to get a proper grip on his body, dead weight and all, but once she managed to grab him securely she slowly and carefully flew toward the old ruins.
It was the only place she was absolutely sure was inaccessible to anyone but her.
Well, and now Jak.
There, the healing could begin. Yeah, she's healed people before when there wasn't enough eco around. She's even healed Jak when there were no health packs or not enough light eco around.
But she's never raised the dead.
And this action, is what was going to cost her.

They landed outside of an old precursor door. She had already forced it open just enough to slip through, otherwise it would have been inaccessible.
The moment their feet touched the ground they immediately changed back.
Dax adjusted himself on Jak's shoulder before looking around the small area. The small precursor structure seemed to be built into the side of the cliff face. Around them were trees and other rocks from the mountain side. Across from the structure itself, was a broken warp gate, and debris from rockslides blocking the only path in from the mountain itself.
Rae glanced at Daxter's face while stretching out her arms.
"I told you it was basically inaccessible. To those without wings anyway."
She squeezed through the doorway before Jak or Daxter could say anything in response.
Jak scowled before squeezing through the door himself.
The room was nearly entirely dark but the faint glow of the sun outside gave just enough light to see Rae's silhouette.
She rummaged around through a satchel at her hip before she brought out a lighter.
She clicked it open before stooping down to light a group of candles in the middle of the room.
When she finished with those she felt her way towards a small table on the left and lit a group of candles there.
The extra amount of light in the room allowed Jak and Daxter to see crates of preserved food and a makeshift bed of pillows and blankets near the table. Next to that was a stool propped against the wall.
Jak slowly moved further into the room, letting his eyes adjust to the dim light.
He stopped near the middle of the room beside the candles when Daxter tugged on his ear.
"Jak... there's someone else breathing in here. Besides us."
Jak glanced at him before returning his gaze to Rae.
She was looking at them from the other side of the room, the faint glow of the lighter illuminating her face just slightly.
Her face was set in stone, she was watching the expressions of the others carefully.
"Try not to be startled. And try not to make any noise."
Jak raised an eyebrow at her as she bent down to another small table.
She lit a candle.
The form of what seemed to be a makeshift cot appeared.
She lit another one and the faint shadow of an elven outline sprung onto the wall. It's chest lightly heaving up and down.
She lowered the lighter again and ushered Jak closer.
He stepped forward until he was right next to her, and only then did she light the last candle.
His eyes widened and Rae's empty hand shot up to cover his mouth at the same time as Jak's right hand shot up to cover Daxter's mouth.
Well, kinda. His hand ended up covering everything besides his eyes.
Jak's knees nearly buckled and despite his attempt to force it down, his eyes misted a little.
Damas was right in front of him. And he was alive.
His chest was rising and falling, he could even hear his shallow breaths. His chest was exposed and bare but a tattered blanket covered him from the waist down, covering his legs.
Rae removed her hand and put the lighter away.
Jak stared at his father while Dax jumped from his shoulder and landed on the cot, right next the king's left foot.
For once, he was actually speechless.
Jak suddenly jolted as if he had awaken from a dream and harshly wiped at his eyes before turning to Rae.
"H-how? I-- we thought he was dead! His heart had stopped and we couldn't..."
He trailed off, his voice failing him.
"... I thought he died."
Rae was looking down at Damas's face, nodding gently.
"He did die... stone cold in fact."
Jak's face twisted in confusion and... something else. She wasn't quite sure what.
"I thought... you couldn't change anything. You... always said--"
Rae raised a hand, shushing him as his voiced raised enough to create an echo in the small room.
"I know what I said, Jak."
She tore her gaze away from Damas and turned it completely towards Jak.
"I know. And I also told you before, that if there was some way I could change something or save someone that wouldn't damage your future, that I would. No matter the cost. The problem, is that if I were to do that, it would cost me. And the cost, would be too great that I wouldn't be able to save Damas later if I intervened sooner. Whether you want to hear it or not, every death and scenario that's happened, has happened for a reason. Damas's death however, was completely pointless. Except for one thing."
Rae gripped her right wrist in her other hand and it rubbed it as if in thought.
"It would have fueled your anger. Your drive to complete the mission. Or at least, when I first learned of your destiny, that's the excuse they told me. They knew I thought it was pointless and deep down I think they did as well. Because they gave me a choice. The choice to save him. But the thing was, I had to let you think he was gone for good. So the "almighty Precursors" could get the anticipated result to garuntee the outcome."
She said the last part with venom in her voice and she crossed her arms, as if reliving that memory.
Finally, Daxter looked up the two.
"You said it was a choice. To save Damas or just... don't?"
She thought for a moment and then nodded once.
"That's the gist of it. If I chose not to save him, then everything would proceed exactly as they told me it should. And you wouldn't have a future that includes your father. But if I decided to save him, then it would end up better for everyone. In my opinion anyway. But they warned me from the beginning that it would cost me."
Before they could ask, she raised the wrist she was currently cradling and flipped it over, exposing her palm.
Right there, dead center on the artery right before the palm was an ugly scar with what seemed to be a black X... burned on top of her skin.
"And that brings me to how I brought him back in the first place. I removed his chest armor so I could get to the area above his heart. Then..."
She moved her other hand and patted a dagger that was strapped to her hip, opposite the one that has her satchel.
"Then I gave him some of my blood mixed with light eco. You see, it's one of the reasons I chose this place. You know I can move eco like the Sages. So I let some of my blood drip onto his chest, and then it mixed with light eco. I helped it absorb into his skin and down to his heart, and it started beating again. And the price of giving him some of my life... is that whatever he has left now has been taken away from me. So whenever he dies, likely at the end of his natural life cycle, I'll die too. And as for the injuries to his legs... "
She lifted the blanket to show his legs and other injuries were now healed.
"I just used light eco to heal those once he was alive again. As to why I was gone for a while, I had to let myself recuperate. It... took a lot out of me."
She set the blanket back down, letting it fall over his skin.
Daxter looked up at her once again and she could have sworn there was an almost green tint to his fur.
"Why... couldn't they just let you heal him? Why such a big sacrifice?"
She gave a sad smile, expecting that question.
"Because by choosing to restore someone's life, I acted above our race. We are not meant to simply give life like I did. To do so meant I was basically declaring myself a God. So... as penance, my life was cut shorter. And this mark, is my reminder of that. It will only fade once I die."
Her gaze drifted from Daxter back to Jak. His face was now pale, his mouth set in a grimace.
"I... don't know what to say."
She turned her back on them and walked to the table with food.
"Then don't say anything, let's just leave it. It was my choice, and I knew full well what I was doing and what the consequences would be. And I knew from the very beginning what my choice would be, and if I had the chance then I would do it again."
She picked up a bag of dried berries and some nuts and threw it at Jak which he instantly caught.
"I'll consider it as payment for all the things I couldn't do for you in the past."
Daxter climbed back up onto Jak's shoulder to eat some of the food.
He plucked a single berry into his mouth before looking back at Rae who had now settled into the chair near the table, eating her own food so casually it was like the former conversation never happened.
"Um... h-how much time do you have left?"
She was silent for a moment, slowly chewing her food as she thought that question through.
Finally she swallowed and shrugged stiffly.
"I'm not sure. And to be perfectly honest I don't want to know exactly when. But, as I said, I would think it's when his natural lifetime runs out. But no, I don't know when that is, if that's what you meant."
Jak dragged the other stool that was near the bed and set it across from Rae. He kicked it a little with his foot to even it out before sitting down himself.
"So what now? I mean... why wait until now?"
She finished her current mouthful before setting the pouch on the table.
"Because, today he is ready to be safely moved. He's stable enough. And for that I'll need your help to get him back to Spargus. But for now--"
She reached into another crate and brought out two small jugs of water.
She passed one to Jak before removing the cork from her own and taking a drink.
"We rest. We'll move out at midday."
Jak nodded and took a long drink. When he finished he passed it to Daxter who had nearly almost eaten himself into a food coma.
"Rae?"
She had shifted her attention back to Damas, watching his breathing.
But at the sound of her name she turned her head back to Jak and raised her head.
"Hmm?"
And in that moment Jak's eyes changed. They weren't the hard, steely blue that nearly three years of pain and suffering had caused.
They were the gentle blue that she had seen in Sandover. Before his innocence was ripped away from him.
"Thank you. For... for everything."
She knew immediately what he meant by that. He meant the almost three years of hell they've been through. Not just what she had done for his father.
Her younger self would maybe have wanted to shout at him. Let out her frustration for these past years.
Her frustration that he finally seemed to understand why she couldn't just change everything with a flick of her wrist even though she desperately wished she could.
And her own anger and sadness that her role in his life had brought her.
She never wanted any of this to happen. She didn't want to have a part in this. And she didn't want to leave her old life behind.
But she wasn't seventeen anymore. She wasn't so full of anger, confusion, and frustration anymore.
Did she still feel all those things? Of course, at least a little. But now she understands he didn't ask for any of this either. He never asked or wanted to be the hero.
She's had to do a lot of growing up herself these past few years.
So, instead of saying any of that she just smiled at him. A real, genuine smile.
"Don't mention it."
_______________________________________
Ah geez that took forever to write down! Oh but it's such a relief to actually have it written and not just swirling around in my head.
Ugh, so what do you think?
First time writing about this series so I don't really know if I did the characters justice.
But... you guys don't even know how much this video game series means to me.
I mean it is literally THE FIRST video game I ever played in my life!
Yeah, I actually remember that!
And I was so young that for a few years I remember just playing around in the first game. Just having fun, making up my own game in those levels.
Sandover, Misty Island, Rock Village, Sentinel Beach, and the Forbidden Jungle...
And then when I was a few years older I finally stopped being an idiot and decided to actually play the game for what it was.
And I absolutely loved it.
Even more than I already did.
So many of my happiest memories have SOMETHING to do with this series.
I would play the first one with my siblings, when we all actually loved each other and before they went insane.
And then figuring and playing through the second and third games with my siblings as well as friends when we finally got the collection for the PS3
But now... well like I kinda mentioned, my siblings and I don't really... well they've done things that I can never forgive.
And my friends, I've either drifted apart from the ones I've played the series with or they've just lost interest.
So something that means this much to me... and I have no one to share it with.
And these past few weeks while I've been in quarantine, I've played all three again.
And it's a bittersweet feeling.
Because something that brought me so much happiness and good times...
Now feels lonely yet nostalgic.
Alright so, rant over.
And I know I wad vague with some things but remember what I said about this part likely being a chapter near the end of the story.
So everything that was vague, would have detail in clarity if I actually write the story.
There are two problems though.
One, I never hear anybody talk about this series anymore. So I don't know if there's really anyone out there who would appreciate something like this.
And two, I know not a lot of people like stories that have OC's in them as main characters when reading fanfictions.
So, maybe you understand my hesitation?
Please, really read and examine this piece of work.
